HLG is nothing and it is for live broadcast format. I had try few HLG format video and to be honest it not even better than normal HDR10 quality when playback the same video different HDR type in my Panasonic TV that is support HLG format.
BBC test run it through its iPlayer app for the world cup but not with Apple, streaming can also be live. Minor upgrade then.

So a good few years yet. As already mentioned, I am with HobeSoundDaryl.
 
Well, LG and Samsung are touting 8K panels.......

It's inevitable but not a good buy given that mainstream gaming and 8k movies are far away. By the time 8K content is available there will be new HDR or frame rate technology that these early adopter products don't offer. The same was true for early 4K displays which didn't support HDR10 or Dolby Vision.
 
Certainly going to be an interesting few years especially seeing how far 4k can be pushed.
