Anyone ever notice how these threads always seem to end the same way?

Past the second or third response of "Thief," "Do the right thing," and so on the OP disappears and all the following comments are only by others with similar responses.

I always find this interesting because it tells you exactly what the original intent was. If the OP is legit they'll come back and defend themselves, but it rarely seems to happen that way.

Just a personal observation. :D

IMO mods should automatically delete threads about bypassing activation lock then ban the OP.

I think I can agree with that. There are other sites you can find via a Google search.

There's always Apple too! Oh right, Apple probably won't help you break into a stolen phone! My bad!

Can it even be removed? I thought the whole point was it couldn't be removed at all

I'd have to do some research, but if you have a receipt proving it is yours and you forgot the password I believe Apple can help you out and get it off. But I'm not 100% sure about that and they definitely wouldn't help you with one that you "found" somewhere.

Why would I care about unlocking a phone you found?

This place is turning into YouTube without the videos.

If I had a £ for each of these threads that get started, I could buy an iPhone 5s.
Just take it to an apple store or police station.

Bet I'd make more on the folks who don't make backups but have lost all their irreplaceable files posts. ;)

Battery life after iOS update ;)

But seriously there's no way to get around activation lock without the Apple ID and password of the owner. I just bought a used iPad mini in craigslist and the seller didn't know that he had to go on iCloud and remove the lock. I had to spend two hours walking him through it via text. Nothing can be done. That's a good thing. It was annoying to deal with in a legitimate sale of the device, but at least we know it works.

I believe they will just ask you to follow the password recovery procedure for your Apple ID instead of unlocking the phone like that.

If you find an iPhone that is locked the best thing to do is to ask Siri to "call home", "call mom", "call dad", etc. You'll surely find the owner that way.

Let's say this is actually true that the phone was found- so sad that the father shows the son that it's ok to wipe the phone and claim it as your own. Instead of doing the right thing and giving it to the police station or apple store

What a shame
