"Hey I haven't used this feature at all but I hate it, I need it removed now..."

Really? Why don't you maybe, you know, use it... before you pass judgement. And to anyone who doesn't think this makes sense... I think double-clicking the home button is the fastest way to access something and being able to switch to an app or hit up a contact is quite lovely. You don't ever have to use this screen (plenty don't) and really it's more shortcuts/"fast switching" than "multitasking".

That doesn't change anything for anyone that might not want anything there, or at least might want a way to control it. Usefulness of something doesn't mean simply accepting it as is, especially when it might come to something like that automatically picking and sticking recent contacts there without you being able to control much of it.

I just don't understand this feature even a little bit. What sense does it make to put contacts in the multitasking view? It's just completely confusing. It's like they couldn't find anywhere else to put it so that's where it landed.
Exactly! Apple wanted to put quick access to contacts some where and it got stuck in multitasking. NEWS FLASH: If I want to text some one I am more then happy to open the messaging app myself. Some people might not thats cool but I want to turn it off. I do not care to see people in my OS.

Sometimes you need to use it to know if you will like it or not. But not this time. Instead of using it I can sit here look at a picture of it and say "Oh crap! I don't want to see that at all." And I don't think I should lose a whole feature just because something else entered that space. And all apple needs to do to fix it is throw up setting that lets the user decide what they want. This is not something I'm going to use and this is not something I want to see.

haha i could see this bring an issue...

Girlfriend: Why does it say your ex is one of your recent people? Why have you been talking to them?
Boyfriend: Baby... I... Baby.... but Apple doesn't allow me to turn that off!
The boyfriend just doesn't get the question, does he?

The girlfriend asks why the ex is in the recents, NOT why the recents are there. Ugh, what an idiot.

Its not really a "multitasking" view though as much as a recently used list of apps in the order they were used so showing a list of recently used contacts in there makes sense as well.

For what its worth recent phone calls received\made can be deleted in the phone app so does doing this remove them from this area as well?

This... I don't want my girlfriends talking to each other. It's getting harder to live unethically. Curse you, Apple!

If you go into the phone app and clear recent list then some contacts do clear, it's just the people we have text that remain, apple need to put an option in to clear all messages or something so this list gets cleared, do people we email show up too?

Just wait till she discovers Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > Frequent Locations... :D

Ok so my question is... Now in iOS 8 can you get rid of the contacts at the top of the multitasking. I don't like see something above the apps and don't feel I need that. Can some on using iOS 8 tell me if that can be turned off? Thank you

you'll get use to it

Deleting recent calls doesn't do anything to the recent contacts in that area.

I've cleared all recent calls and deleted all messages and the recent contacts remained exactly the same.

At least you can turn that off.

It works fine here like I described, if I make a call to a contact they end up first on the recents, if I clear recents in phone app that contact in recent multitask view is gone.

What about those that are pulled from messages?

Yeah, unfortunately that's only half a solution (well, more like half a workaround) at best then.

Yes half way there though, it's as if its broken, I don't save messages so there are none at all on my iPhone or in iCloud, yet the recents who I text are there in multitask menu, really they should get removed if I delete the coresponding message from said person, maybe Apple will fix that?

Yeah, at the very least it should be like that. Hopefully it would be even easier to remove or change those things there, and/or having some control over whether or not they even show up there to begin with (in case someone doesn't even want to use that feature at all).

How is your phone prompting you with the contact cards of your recent and favorite contacts an invasion of privacy? It's all there in Phone.App 3-4 clicks away.
It can be cleared in the Phone app or in the Messages app, but can't be in the multitasking/recent apps view. There's a difference.

Completely asinine statement. Functionality of something always comes into play, you might think you want nothing there and then after using it you realize it's exactly what you needed. Apple only has a history of doing this their entire history.

The first issue I have with everything you've said is you assume this area is "multitasking", Multitasking is a background service, this screen everyone is discussing is the "fast app switcher" up until this point.

I could make the statement that if I want to open a recent app I could open it from the home screen, spotlight, etc. Now do you see how ridiculous you sound? The fast app switcher is faster for this, and it's faster for hitting up a recent/favorite. You just don't know it yet.

If you don't wanna see people in your OS, maybe don't have any contacts? That could solve it. Explains a lot.

What feature did you lose by this entering that space? If you don't think you'll use it, don't... plain and simple. However, you're probably wrong. You usually are. And that's why Apple doesn't give customers the opportunity to change things however they like. If you haven't got that they know the answer MANY times before we do (or at least that's how they operate) you haven't been paying attention.

Out.
