As long as they accept NFC payments, you should be able to use it now.Would be extremely convenient if we can use Apple pay when filling up gas. Is this possible?

Well, actually, that's just the pre-authorization (makes it quicker, so that's done before you leave) - it means that you have available credit on the payment method you're using.Speaking of american gas stations, can anyone tell me the reason as to why you have to pay BEFORE filling up gas over there? How am i supposed to know how much gas for money the car can hold?
The first time i got gas the lady asked me how much and i was like ????? eh 30 dollars maybe? Of course i ended up only needing 16 dollars to fill it up. The other way around makes so much more sense to me.
Fill up your car and then pay

This started originally as an after-hours thing (I worked at a convenience store for a little while in college) - after hours people had to pay before they pumped.
It's because there were too many drive-aways (people stealing gas).
I used to use Exxon Mobile's Speedpass to fill up. Very easy and convenient.
Guys, you know you replied to a post I made three years ago, yes?![]()
Yep, you do a pre-auth for a little bit more than you think you'll need. The pump will actually shut off at the limit you pre-authorized if you hit it.Ah so they dont actually charge the card until you have actually filled it up? Makes sense. I kept looking at my bank account like a crazy person to see if they paid me back

Some US Stations have contactless at the pump but not as common. You can always use contactless inside just like the UK, and no $ limits unless the system is really old. Some places like my car dealer for service will flash “Insert chip” if you tap over $25! Stupid. Here in the UK you can at most if you go inside the shop to pay but I've not seen any pay at the pump terminal accepting contactless yet. I imagine they have been slower to adopt them due to the £30 limit on contactless card payments when most people spend more than that filling up their car. As limitless contactless methods such as Apple Pay become more and more popular hopefully we'll see them starting to get contactless payments.
