The, "don't buy an iPhone in Canada" method will be very effective at getting better tariff's I'm sure. It was in the UK with O2.

Was just reading an article on CBCNews, check out this interesting quote:

CBCNews said:
Rogers backpedalled somewhat on Monday and said the plans announced last week are not the only ones available. Customers wishing to buy the iPhone can select other voice and data plans, including ones that have been designated for BlackBerry phones, including a recent deal that offers six gigabytes of downloading for $100.

"The [prices announced Friday] are only the plans that we think make the most sense for users," said spokesperson Elizabeth Hamilton.

ruinediphone is still down...damn you Robbers......but i think the petition is having an effect, as someone posted above....if we carry this, we will get Justice:eek::rolleyes::p lol.......im a bit Optemistic

I hope the petition fails. It makes no sense to me you would go to these lengths. If the plan doesnt fit you, dont get it.

Thanks for that extensive list of contacts Rashid. I have emailed several people on the list.

Also, I'm so disappointed that I'm considering switching carriers and getting a different smartphone on July 11. I said so in my emails to these people.

Here is what I sent to the President of Rogers wireless. I copied the other two people who were listed as part of the wireless group. I used my real name and company, which I have not included here.

____________

I wish to add my voice to those who are disappointed and outraged with the Roger's pricing plans for the iPhone. I was intending to become an iPhone customer when my current Blackberry Plan (with Rogers) expires. I am CEO of a mid sized technology company, and all of our business development people and senior executives run BlackBerries. I had intended to offer them a choice to use the iPhone, considering it's newly emerging enterprise capabilities.

Your requirement to sign up for three year plan is a show stopper for us. This device will be long obsolete even two years into the plan. We cannot commit to a three year plan, considering the pace at which technology moves. In addition, the whole point to an iPhone is to provide strong data capabilities for people who are on the road. The lack of an unlimited data plan is downright dangerous for companies such as mine. If we use the iPhone to it's fullest extent and encourage people to stay connected and to do things like open attachments, then we are risking exorbitant and out-of-control data charges.

Bottom line - we cannot proceed with the iPhone with your current plans. In addition, I have always felt that your BlackBerry pricing plans were a little extreme as well. In addition, your sparse network coverage outside of major metro areas has been a problem for us. However, I was willing to put up with this - UNTIL NOW. Your iPhone plan is so outrageous to me that I no longer wish to do business with your company at all. I have instructed our IT people to look for an alternative for new employees and to NOT renew with Rogers when the plans for our current phones expire.

I hope you reconsider these plans and offer Canadians a plan that is competitive with those offered elsewhere. I think you may have underestimated the consumer backlash that you will generate with a very sophisticated user group who wish to use the iPhone - especially those who had plans for it in the enterprise.

My company paid out all its Rogers Blackberries and went with Telus, great plan, great coverage (there is no GSM North of 60 but Telus works there) and floating balances across all the phones and BlackBerries. In addition Telus is CDMA and GSM.

I stilll have a Rogers Treo which I was planning to convert to an iPhone on Day One. I want to know more about the 6GB for $100 data plan that Rogers is now starting to talk about. 6GB would be "unlimited" for me.

It's 6GB/$100 for Data alone. You'd have to combine this with a voice plan. These plans are listed on Rogers site as blackberry data plans, though they say they can be used with the iPhone, combined with any voice plan.

Ice - thanks. Does the Telus alternative give you Edge or just vanilla GSM? The one alternative we looked at so far (MTS Allstream) has a Blackberry worldphone but no Edge. I am trying to understand the impact of this when trying to use e-mail internationally.

Our Telus BlackBerries have 1XEVDO which I understand is a speeded up CDMA. The Telus BlackBerries seem to run on CDMA where it is available and shift to GSM where it is not. I think it is "plain Vanilla GSM" when it shifts though. We are however saving over 30% compared to what we paid Rogers, and now we get service when we call, prompt and courteous. Rogers didn't even follow up when we paid out 8 BlackBerries just to get off their network. A friend has a jailbroken iPhone 1 and I may try my Telus SIM card in it to see if it works. Another Non Rogers option for jailbroken iPhones.

Post your email you sent to them.

Here's the gist of it:

I am extremely disappointed with the recently-announced iPhone rate plans. I urge you to view the comparison to US and UK rates here: http://apeatling.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/iphone3gcosts21.png

Please explain why iPhone plans in Canada are so out of line with plans elsewhere. Your posted rates show a lack of respect for the customer and an out-of-touch attitude toward the average customer's needs and means.

The following was compiled by a third party:

[I put in some of the cost info provided by Rashid.]

I was on waiting lists at 2 different Rogers stores in anticipation of the iPhone launch. However, now I no longer intend to purchase it. I will reconsider in the future if the rates are revised to show that Rogers respects and values its customers and is in tune with customer needs. In the meantime, since I am currently a Rogers Wireless customer, I am considering purchasing a different smartphone at another carrier as a further protest. If I do so, I will do it on July 11.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely...
