I don't think you can use the iPhone with Bell/Telus. Even unlocked.

I thinks its because Bell uses CDMA, while Rogers uses something else. Or has this changed, and now you can use an unlocked iPhone 3G because of the 3G?

Thanks..i know the iphone is GSM...its only Rogers/Fido

I was asking on the telus unlimitted....can we use youtube

Thank You Bell Canada And Telus

Never thought I'd ever agree with that statement. It's also interesting to note, that other international carriers that don't offer unlimited plans are giving way under pressure from customers:

After hitting a steep wall of customer resistance, Telia Sweden is buckling to pressure and is offering an unlimited data plan for the iPhone, as well as allowing customers to choose between its existing voice plans.

I heard back from Rogers. Their response was to sling their new motto "we're not happy till you're not happy". They are now officially happy.

If your cartoon is from a California paper, why was it drawn by the Ottawa Citizen editorial page cartoonist and why does its say "Ottawa Citizen" in the upper right hand corner of the cartoon?

Uh, newspapers run editorial cartoons from other papers all the time. But maybe you didn't know that, since nobody reads papers anymore. :D

3G on CDMA using EVDO rev.A

The Telus Diamond page on Electronista has the following quote:
"Telus today made a surprise announcement that it will be the first North American provider to carry the Touch Diamond, HTC's new flagship touchscreen phone. The news jumps Telus ahead of expected announcements from Sprint and Verizon and makes the Canadian firm the first known to get the CDMA version of the Diamond, which should have advanced 3G access through EVDO Revision A while keeping nearly all other features."

Would then iPhone 3G have to be totally redesigned to utilize the CDMA 3G? Certainly BlackBerry has TDMA, CDMA and GSM versions and many of the new ones operate on four different frequency bands.

Also Telus BlackBerries have and use a GSM SIM card. I am not sure if a Telus Card in an iPhone would move to the "second choice network" which is GSM if it were put in an iPhone that had no CDMA antenna.

Can anyone clarify this?

1. they sold out to another company that has other "petition" sites and knows nothing about technology
2. now theres ads
3. they dont know how to spell
4. watch the video, try to ignore the pretty lady and listen to her words.

did you hear it?
like wtf? how can a company like take over such an important site and mess things like that up. this will really screw some people up.

(BTW if u dont get it she clearly said "3 gig iPhone")

this guy is trying to help us. Instead of pointing his flaws email him and let him know where to make the changes.

i know he is trying to help us. im just saying if your going to do it, you need to do it right. and i did email him about it.

I must say that I'm impressed with the Canadians: while in Israel they've only created a Facbook group in an attempt to have an official iPhone release there, in Canada they've already built a whole site and even created a video clip just to get the local provider to reduce the iPhone rates :D

:(
I just converted the currency from SEK to CAD:

"iMini": 50 CAD (299 SEK) for: 100 minutes, 100 SMS, 100 MB (!!!!!!)
"iMidi": 83 CAD (489 SEK) for: 250 minutes, 250 SMS, 250 MB
"iMaxi": 145 CAD (859 SEK) for: 1000 minutes, 1000 SMS, 1000 MB

These monthly prices are for 18 or 24 months, depending on how much you want to pay for your phone. If you choose iMaxi and 24 months signup, and the 16 GB iPhone, you still get to pay 135 CAD to get the phone.

:(

... but I'm still getting an iPhone on the 11:th. Of course.

Which converts to :

"iMini" $USD50 for: 100 minutes, 100 SMS, 100 MB
"iMidi" $USD81.83 for: 250 minutes, 250 SMS, 250 MB
"iMaxi" $USD143.76 for: 1000 minutes, 1000 SMS, 1000 MB

If you choose iMaxi and 24 months signup, and the 16 GB iPhone, you still get to pay $ 132 USD to get the phone.

Canadian business competitiveness crippled by data rates

This is a letter I've sent to the Vancouver Board of Trade, VIATeC, the Victoria Chamber of Commerce, plus various newspapers and tech companies.

If you think it is useful, contact your local Chamber and media, plus any other businesses and business organizations you think would be concerned.

I'm writing about something I think should be of great concern to any business or business organization.

Currently, there is a huge stink about Rogers' outrageous data rates. It has been picked up by the CBC, the Globe, Reuters, CTV and many other news organizations. The topic is currently being brought into focus by the pent-up demand for the iPhone (petition at ruinediphone.com), but, of course, the rates have always been outrageous.

I read an article recently that postulated the crippling of Canada's information industry because of such rates. I think the article makes a very sound point. We've gone from being Internet leaders to trailing badly. But the same crippling effect permeates all business, both internally in Canada, and in international competition. While business people elsewhere freely exchange information, Canadians ration themselves on their mobiles because of the potential charges of up to a thousand dollars they could incur in a month.

If a country like Rawanda can do it, why not Canada? Data there is dirt cheap compared to us. A very different story from Canada.

Rogers are operating in the sort of past where BC Tel used to charge $50/hour for long distance. They think they are still back there. Unfortunately, because of their monopoly, they are!

I think any business organization should be agitating vigorously with the government to bring Rogers and the rest of them under control - for the sake of both the IT sector and for all business in Canada.

Thank you for your consideration,
Michael Linehan

Did anyone see this? http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/07/06/apple-not-happy-with-rogers-over-iphone-plan-pricing/

* Rogers hired additional sales staff to handle the iPhone launch, all of whom have been fired effective immediately
* Apple has informed Rogers that they will be diverting a “large percentage” of their iPhone stock that was destined for Canadian shores, sending it instead to their European distributors. According to the rumor, this would leave Rogers with as few as 10-20 units per store for launch day.

Looks like new plans could be closer than we first thought!!!
