Does Bell offer any bundle discount if you have Bell Sat TV?

Anyone compare tethered speeds vs a dedicated sim?

What are you tethering to? My iPhone gets 65ms, 1.47Mbps down, 2.23Mbps up, and if I tether my iPad to it, I suspect I'll see, at best, those same speeds. It's not LTE, so I wouldn't expect LTE speeds.

hey did you have to call them to get this deal? or did you go to a store?
I called them 3 times and none of them was able to find this on their system..

I called them Monday and they said it would work, and put a note on my account. I went to the store friday to get an LTE sim and had the store call in for me to actually go through with it. The regular reps couldn't do it and were frustratingly clueless, but the retention rep could. Give that a shot?

For the prepaid plans to work, the SIM card (at least the Rogers ones) has to be preactivated before inserting it into the iPad. All SIMs that are delivered with iPads and even the ones that are in stores are set up for post paid plans, so they must be preactivated for it to work.

We used to have actual preactivated SIMs but they've since changed that.

Keep in mind that the prepaid plans do not support LTE at the moment.

I'm an American. Say I wanted to travel to Canada for a weekend. Could I just walk into a Rogers store, pick up a prepaid SIM for a nominal fee, pay $35 for the iPad data plan, and walk out with fully functional DC-HSPA+ on my iPad with 5GB of data and hotspot?

No bundle special with bell even if I have: fibetv, telephone,internet...

Talked to Bell, they offer $5 off per service if you combine them on a single bill.

Not that Im aware of. Rogers also does not offer DC HSPA+ , but Bell/Telus do.

Bell or Telus used to have a prepaid 30 day deal but read it does not work with the ipad 3 , all i could see now are mtm plans.

I would recommend walking into a Apple Store to pickup the SIM since Rogers sometimes tries to charge you $10 for the pre-activated prepaid SIM card. Yes, then you could sign up for the 5GB plan. It wouldn't be DC but you will get HSPA+ which gets pretty good speeds.

Some possible issues though. I know when I travelled to the U.S. and picked up a AT&T SIM that it wouldn't work until I hooked my iPad up to iTunes with the SIM inside. Also, AT&T wouldn't accept my Visa info, so I used a prepaid credit card from Walmart. Not sure if any of this would be different for someone from the U.S. coming to Canada.

Oh, I thought they had DC-HSPA+. Anyways, sounds good otherwise. That's weird about the credit card, I'd think they'd want your money. :)

Would the same be true for Telus? They advertise DC-HSPA+.

Yes, Telus has DC and it should be the very same process. Not certain about the credit card thing, just going off my experience with AT&T last year.

i went to rogers today to see what plan i was gonna get worked out before i went and bought a 64/4G and turns out im screwed  I have a 6gb unlimited plan with my phone and they wont let it be shared AND they wont let me change to a data share plan because i just renewed back in october so my only option is to add $36 a month to my bill at minimum if i want an LTE pad

any suggestions?

Don't you folks up north have free tethering on your phones anyways? So it sounds like a moot point in the first place.

Call Rogers and talk to a rep. There are other plans available like the flex plan.
I finally had my iPhone plan changed to LTE and will pay 11.93 a month to share with my iPad. Check out the promo package they have for 62.35. You get 1GB LTE, 200 weekday min, my 10 Canada wide, unlimited messaging, and 6pm weekdays. I also added call display and visual voicemail for 6.00 (promo). So I get double of what I previously had for the same amount, plus LTE for the iPhone 5. To tell you the truth I always hated Rogers because they were screwing us Canadians with the crappiest iPhone plans in the industry, but they have come a long way since the iPhone 3G days.

We got a memo the other day saying that the On-Device plans do not work with the iPad 3, so my previous point has been rendered useless, though they do mention "on-device plans are for iPad and iPad 2 owners because they do not support LTE".

Now I'm wondering if the SIM is activated in an iPad or iPad 2 with a prepaid plan if it'll just work in the new iPad. Too bad I don't have a way to test it.

Yes Rogers gives us free tethering, but I wouldn't say it's moot because the iPhones dont support LTE.. If one wants LTE speed on the iPad the only way to go is with an iPad plan.

Plus tethering eats the battery on my iPhone. But the big difference is LTE speeds are faster than my broadband at home, and about 10x faster (or better) than my iPhone speeds.

I usually use the iPad tethering with my laptop when traveling, and the good thing about his is that you can tether via the USB cable that connects your ipadto your laptop, and so there is no battery loss on the iPad.

Is there enough power from the USB port to charge the iPad at the same time? or is the tethering offset by the low charge with the screen off?

Don't you have HSPA+? That's pretty darn fast, and I've heard your networks are even better than AT&T?

They are because there's less stress on the network... I mean Verizon have almost 100 million costumers... We are about 35 million in Canada the whole country. No need to be a genius and see why carriers in the U.S specially AT&T are struggling...

i'm gonna try calling in but they told me i couldn't change my plan since i just renewed my contract back in october. how exactly does the tethering work? never done it before. (i have a 4s)

I have both an original iPad with Rogers on-device activated (prepaid plan) 3G SIM, and the new iPad with Rogers LTE SIM activated on the $5 monthly flex plan.

the prepaid SIM isn't currently being used, i.e. in the current month I've not signed up for any plan. but of course I can signup on-device at any time with original iPad

if I pop that SIM into my new iPad, I get "No Service"

however... I just noticed with that same 3G SIM in my old iPad, if I go to the "View Account" section of the Cellular Data settings, i.e. where you'd go to activate another month of data, it says system is down right now for nightly maintenance (it's after midnight as I test it). so not sure if that has any effect on trying the SIM in the new iPad or not - I can retest it tomorrow during the day...

iPad 3 Rogers LTE Reception

After jumping through the Rogers LTE plan registration hoops for the iPad 3, I've found that I'm usually getting no more than one LTE bar most days despite being in downtown Toronto. Is anyone else having LTE reception problems on the iPad 3?

Is there any way to limit the 6gb? Ie: if I go over they would disconnect me from the network? Also is there a credit check to this?

Anybody is getting decent speeds with Bell in Calgary ??
I only get about 8 Mbps down and about 25 Mbps upload.
Ah and I got the Flexi data with no overages for 2 months and one fee month of Bell TV service

Did you ever get a chance to retest this? I'm heading into Vancouver in a couple of weeks. I have an PAYG Rogers 3g micro-sim that I had used with the iPad 2 and was hoping I could just use that in my New iPad. I don't really care about LTE, I'd be more than happy to settle for 3G service if it'll save me the hassel of setting up an account with Rogers.

sorry, I forgot to repost here after testing again...

I rechecked, and if I put my old Rogers 3G SIM from my original iPad 1 into my new iPad 4G+wifi, I see either:
- Rogers 3G indicator, along with several bars at top of the screen, or
- No Service

but in either case, I can't connect to the internet (expected, because I haven't activated another month of prepaid data). e.g. I'll get a "Could not activate cellular data network" error message.

but in Settings/Cellular Data there also no option anywhere to sign up for a data plan like on the old iPad.

since my original post, I read elsewhere that Rogers is not supporting the old style on-device activated data plans on the new iPad, even with old existing 3G SIM card. a Cdn telecom insider posting in these forums said it's pure greed that the 3 telcos here aren't supporting prepaid data plans (i.e. there's no technical reason why it shouldn't work) - they just want us to sign up for monthly flex plans instead.

and yes, it seems to be a hassle to sign up for a plan with Rogers. At least for now I think they still have that 2 month promo going on: no activation fee and 2 months unlimited data on the flex plan.

p.s. someone was asking about data rates on LTE
here in Vancouver the max I've seen is around 27Mbps. more typically probably in the 15-20Mbps range.

and btw, Personal Hotspot sharing does work on Rogers
