Okay, okay, I have to admit it - I'm going to buy an iPhone with Rogers.

But here me out! I have a Moto Q right now, with the exact same voice plain as the basic iPhone plan, but with only 4mb of data per month, all for $56 plus all the garbage fees and tax tacked on.

So for $4 more - I would get 100 times the data! I know that iPhone uses data differently though, so i would have to take it easy. But I can't resist.

Now I will do one thing - I'm not going to buy it right away, as I want the Rogers launch to be an absolute failure. So I'll wait a couple of months still, but yes, they will get my money sadly....

Hopefully - just hopefully - all of us collectively might have a small effect on Rogers. If they changed the 60$/month to 1 GB of Data I would buy it. That's all I'm asking for!

Nope. I have an iPhone now unlocked on Rogers with no Data Plan, I went through this data crap with Rogers on my former Treo, never want to deal with those stupid limits again.

Based on what you say below, you are getting an iPhone cuz its cool, not because you can use it for what it should do.

Anyone using the iPhone for even the basics of what it offers will exceed the 400MB very quickly. That is rich email and web pages, widgets like weather, You Tube, MobileMe etc and of course the apps coming down the pipe with the App Store. Also, you want to tell us that you only use 150 voice minutes a month? 5 minutes a day? Rogers loves customers like you.

The more I start to think about it it makes sense for me to get the iPhone as I don't need that many minutes and I think I could manage on 400MB of Data. I leaning more on getting one. I think some people are a little hard on Rogers because comparing them to other Canadian networks there deals are pretty good. While they aren't as good as our American counterparts. They still manage to beat all other networks.

i get 10,000 text messages for like $5.......and your insane if you go over 2500 text messages.....instead of paying 100$ over you phone bill (which i know your lying), you can call rogers and work something out.....i do it most of the time....my base plan starts from $20....and then i have stuff for free, and pay 5 for text

DONT BUY IPHONE.......if you buy it then you will regret it, when their will be uinlocked version in the market in a few months

No I really would use the features I have .mac and am looking forward to mobile me. I won't go over the data because I have Wifi all around me. So if i want an app I can just get it.

I don't even use the phone everyday. 150 minutes would be fine.

I "thought" 150 minutes would be good for me, but I always find myself going over on my Telus contract, and I really don't think I use my phone that much. Like you, I don't talk on it every day. Some times, like on a weekend where I just study all day and don't go out, I won't use it for 3 days at a time!

The main reason I'm not getting the iPhone data plan is because 400 mb will go way too quickly.

Like I say I will get it, but not till Christmas at least. I don't want to spend too much until then. Computers are expensive and there is a lot more i want to get, so the iPhone is on hold.

On a higher note maybe things will be different by then.

Then if you think you are going to need more than 400MB, get a bigger plan. It's not that hard.

It's like electricity, you don't pay a flat rate, and get unlimited power...The more you use, the more you pay.

If you aren't happy, then don't buy an iPhone. It is a want, not a need.

I'll hold on with my iPod touch and my Mio a701 with GPS for the moment. It would have been convinient to get both of my devices converted into one (=iPhone) but I'll live. Rogers won't see a cent of my money unless they give us unlimited internet.

Do you really need Unlimited Internet? If Rogers had made the biggest plan to come with 200GB, people would still be crying.

Ted Rogers? Is that you? What are you doing in Moncton!?

No, I just don't expect everything for nothing. The phone also has wi-fi, which is available in a lot of areas....I just think people are acting a little crazy over the whole thing.

Nobody here expects everything for nothing, we just expect what most of the other first world countries have.

Bigger plan = more expensive. I think once you get to like 80/month it becomes a major ripoff, even if you do get all the data/minutes you need.

no data ?

put me down for another person on the fence over the purchase.

I'm used to using wifi now, i know most of the spots where I can find it in the city. And it's really easy.

but,

is there a plan that is just Voice? no data?

a friend said you can get the iPhone with just a voice plan. That is an interesting possibility.

does anyone know if that's true?

if you read the rogers site, it says you can get a voice only plan. I might do just that...

I just saw that as well. I will consider a voice-only plan, but if I can't get a plan similar to my current one (I pay about $45 per month), I'm going break my current Rogers contract and go to another carrier just to upgrade my phone. My current one was really just a stop-gap cheapie device and doesn't have good features, even for a voice-only phone. I need something that's more text-friendly too.

I was really looking forward to not having to rely on wi-fi. I have it at home, but elsewhere in Toronto, everything is subscription/password-protected. Plus, I work in Scarberia, and there's no-wifi on the bus on the way home, which is when I normally have the urge to look up something on the web.

If I don't end up getting an iPhone with a voice-only plan, I will keep my iPod touch and use it for surfing whenever wifi is available (as well as for listening to tunes of course). Basically, I'll be in the same position as I am now.

I'm totally disappointed, though. :( I was really looking forward to finally having an all-in-one device. I feel really deflated. I don't think I will even bother going to the store on July 11. I'll just wait until the crowds thin out.

Do you really think they'll come with a 200Gb plan? If they would, people would get it. But they won't. And 200Gb is virtually unlimited, if you ask me.
I'm a heavy data user, I can't settle for 2Gb. And 2Gb for that price, it's a big NO THANKS.

I'm not sure what plans might be available in the future, but my point is that, even if they did have a plan that big, people would still complain.

I am probably going to get a new iPhone, this quote from today's Metro News has me hopefull that I can keep my current phone plan and still get the iPhone.
Rogers spokeswoman Liz Hamilton said:
“As always, our customers have many choices, they can use their existing voice and smartphone data plans if they wish, including for example, selecting from our new data pricing and then adding a voice plan that suits their own needs, or they can choose a voice and data plan to best suit their individual need,”
Mind you I don't have any data plan... so at the very least am going to have to turn off the 3G feature. Hopefully there are enough free WiFi spots around here to get me connected when I need it.

I feel the same. Don't worry, there won't be any crowds. Guaranteed.

My whole family was planning to get iPhones. Mom, stepdad, sis, cousins.... I think I now have everyone convinced not to get suckered into one of these all-in-one packages. If we can't get the iPhone as straight upgrades (we're all on Rogers or Fido), we're not buying them. I am sure that if we hold out just a couple of months, the packages will be repriced. Especially with the Samsung Instinct and HTC Touch Diamond coming out. These will provide serious iPhone competition with way more reasonable rates. Rogers will have to respond.
