back with the 4s release i reupped my contract with rogers so i'm kinda stuck with them but looking through there plans it looks like i can get a shared plan to use both my phone and ipad and its actually cheaper than what i'm paying now. less data 3gb per month instead of 6 but ive never come close to using 6 so don't think i would notice. gonna go talk to them tomo cause if thats true and i can get them both on a cheaper plan than what i'm using now then why not.

i was gonna just buy a wifi pad but if this works out then might as well spend the extra coin now for the LTE version . pay now save later.

Ok so here is my story...

Recently got 32 gb 4G LTE iPad 3 in white
Got the flex data plan for Telus
I live in what i believe (also according to Telus rep on the phone) a 4G covered area (major intersection of North York along Yonge st.)

Yet, i have NEVER seen the 4G indicator come up since the first day it was out
The BEST I would get is a 3-bar "LTE" signal and thats once in a while, clocking out at 18.44 mbps

Anyone experience the same?? Its almost as if my ipad or the sim is a problem, and if its the ipads problem im gonna be mad.... Tried several things with telus rep but no luck so far... Still on 3g at the moment...

Things we tried:

- reset network settings
- reboot with sim out and in
- roam around toronto with my ipad in the car

still no 4G!!!!

Ummm....LTE IS 4G...

Ok, so ive heard this as well, but anyone in toronto ever have dl of higher than 18.44 mbps? Im new to the technology and apple regarding 4G so just trying to get it right... A telus rep told me u SHOULD be seeing 4G on the top left corner if it is at max reception instead of LTE... I guess he is wrong

One area i havent been is downtown toronto and i hardly really have the time to go down there just to check my ipad speed... Anyone located there with ipad 3 can maybe shed some light regarding this situation

Yes it will say LTE not 4G.

Telus LTE in Calgary in insane, I was in the city for business and drove to downtown where LTE is...55Mbps down and 26Mbps up...that's just flippin' insane.

Crazy! Toronto probably has more isers hence slower speeds. I've been averaging 18-30 Mbps

It will say LTE not 4G. I'm with Telus too in downtown Toronto and I'm experiencing speeds of 18mbps down on average. Nothing blazing like 45mbps another forum member in Calgary was getting. Seeing the LTE signal and 3 bars is pretty much my experience.

Just got my microSIM activated with Telus last night in Vancouver area. I'm not downtown so don't have LTE available, but just 3G (or HSPA+, whatever they call it), and am doing 22.21Mbps/4.21Mbps.

LTE must be crazy fast...can't wait until they roll it out to the 'burbs!

Thanks for the replies guys.

Man, u guys out west KICKS our Toronto guys' ASSES for now!!

Number84, I dunno if that is even possible! 3G at 22 Mbps??? Are u sure it wasn't on LTE??

In hockey as well! =b (sorry, I had to)

Yes, for sure 3G. We only have LTE in the downtown core and I'm out in the suburbs. I'll post a screenshot when I figure out how to add it to the forums through my iPad.

Downtown Toronto.

i went to rogers today to see what plan i was gonna get worked out before i went and bought a 64/4G and turns out im screwed  I have a 6gb unlimited plan with my phone and they wont let it be shared AND they wont let me change to a data share plan because i just renewed back in october so my only option is to add $36 a month to my bill at minimum if i want an LTE pad

WARNING.

I bought an LTE iPad. It had issues, decided upon a Wifi model.

Called Rogers today and cancelled.

IT'S NOT MONTH TO MONTH. YOU NEED TO GIVE 30 DAYS NOTICE. OR THEY CHARGE YOU THE REMAINDER (+one extra month).

Luckily I bitched and got a credit, so buyer beware.

There is no way in hell you should be charged for something you can't use (I was willing to be billed the one month fee, but not 2!)

This whole iPad3 activation within Canada is a scam as far as I'm concerned.

Bell won hands down after real testing.
I picked up both a Bell and Rogers SIM and tested them in my area.

I'm in Vaughan Ontario and Bell is much faster.

1. Rogers is deceptive with their LTE coverage map. They just blanket a whole area indiscriminately when that is far from the truth. If you notice with Bell's map, it's like the edge of a jagged island, or Swiss cheese. That map is more realistic and closer to what I experienced in real term testing, it's more honest.

2. Vaughan is basically still on the fringe of the LTE coverage and I expected slower speeds. However, with Bell, it was much faster than I expected considering I'm on the fringe. With Bell, average down in Vaughan is 26-28 mbps down, anywhere from 15-26 Mbps up. Highest recorded was 32mbps down. And that was a 2 bar LTE signal. With Rogers, the fastest I recorded was 10mbps down, and the signal was weaker. Where I live, I have a Rogers cell, and the 3G strength is 1 bar, or less. With Bell, full bars 3G. Just north of hwy 7, Rogers LTE only registered 1 LTE bar (even though their coverage map says as far north at king road, yeah right). With Bell, same location, 3 LTE bars, and way faster.

So, anyone in Vaughan area, Bell is the hands down choice.

FYI, I'm on their flex LTE plan, 3 tiers. Unlimited for 2 months.

That is a Rogers policy on all their products. They don't call them Robbers for nothing!

Im gonna use Rogers... I have a 10gb sharing plan... All i need to do is slide my micro thats in my current ipad in the new one and voila!

That didn't work for me.

I have an iPad 2 with a Rogers microsim.

When I got my iPad 3, I put the iPad2's microsim in it. No cellular network detected. Rebooted. Checked the settings. No joy.
Back in the iPad2, works.
When to a Rogers store, he couldn't find the problem. He suggested the iPad3 was defective.

Went to the Apple store, they explained that the iPad3 needs a different LTE-enabled microsim... can't use the one from the iPad2.

Activation process took 15-30mins. iPad3 with LTE working fine now.

Yes i knew that, when i wrote that i already had the new lte compatible mirco sim in my old ipad.

Those fast LTE speeds are going to end in tears for the poor saps who don't carefully watch their data caps.

That's only true if you actually INCREASE the content viewed/downloaded as opposed to just doing the same things you would do on a 3G connection, BUT MUCH FASTER.
