To think just a week ago, my friends and people on here were bashing the Evo for its problems. Now it looks like the iPhone has plenty of its own  My roommates has the yellow spots and the bars drop to pretty much nothing when held by its antenna. The multi tasking is also a big letdown as is Face Time only being over wifi, I have my Macbook if I want to video chat over wifi. I love how the Evo multi tasks and the notification bar is awesome, not to mention flash. Sprint is also cheaper and has better rates and no capped data plans for new users. I really wish Apple would step up and make their phones as good as their computers.

So you are sure you are not mbell75?

Yes I did. Apple needs to be aware that their quality control sucks. The iPhone is 4 years old now and unlike HTC, Apple only has to worry about one phone. There is absolutely no excuse for these design, hardware and software flaws, especially considering what they charge for these things. Maybe that will get them worked out soon and I will give em another look.

Let me tell you a something very important: QC for any company these days, sucks. Or it would appear so. It could be the fact that more consumers want electronics, it could be the fact that breakthrough technology is used more carefree, who knows.

Now that we've established that QC sucks, what can you do about your product if it doesn't meet your QC desires? Simple, you can either return it, exchange it, or repair it. In all of these, warrantee and customer service come into play (except, possibly, repair). As much as I hate Apple's software and the "Apple knows best!" vibe you get with their PR, they really do have a good warrantee and customer service. The same can definitely not be said about companies such as HTC or Sony or Microsoft.

For instance with Apple a return is quick and easy unless product personalization is involved (ie. engraving). As well, exchanges will almost never result in your new item being another's refurbished item. The same can almost never be said of HTC or Microsoft. Repairs are different with Apple as Apple may charge a good chunk of money for repairing even the cheapest of parts, however, if you live in the west, there are many self-designated Apple product repair shops which will severely undercut an Apple quoted price and still produce a repair of ridiculously good quality. In fact, when my motherboard broke on my MBP, yet I was 1 year too late on my warrantee, Apple charged $600 to fix my board where a place in California charged around $300. Naturally I got the place in California to try their best and Apple even payed the fee for whatever reason after I send them a discerning email. Half a year later and my MBP is still going strong once again.

The point is, you can't demand QC and so you shouldn't demand perfection in your product, you should demand perfection in a company's warrantee policies and customer services.

<insert I'm not a mac fanboy though I own some mac products rant here. As well, make sure to note that although I like my MBP, I don't like the premium cost to legally run OS X and so my next notebook will be windows exclusive>

<insert I've owned HTC and Sony and Nokia phones and while I haven't owned an iPhone before, I'm willing to take the plunge this year. As well, note that of the above phone manufacturers, Nokia served me the longest and it's too bad they have lost their edge in the new generation of mobile phone wars>

Also keep in mind, when you want to be the first to own a new device chances are high that there is going to be a defect or two. All these things will be worked out and the new phones rolling off the assembly line will be better than the current batch.

False

Holding the EVO and iPhone 4 next to each other, I can't see why someone would pick the EVO.

Here's some reasons I am considering:

  • Bigger Screen - You consider that bulky, I consider it NICE
  • Wi-Fi Hotspot (without jailbreaking (or rooting) the phone)
  • No AT&T Data caps - Important for me as I would be a new customer
  • Widgets - Handy to see weather, etc. without opening app
  • Navigation - With Sprint and Google there are some good free GPS programs right out of the box
  • Sprint TV - Is there a similar thing for iPhone? Perhaps there is so this one might be a wash
  • Voice Control - Love that the keyboard has a little mic button that you can speak in to text or "type" with on anything. I'm no great typist and it worked really really well when I tried it out. It didn't get a single word wrong. Not that it wouldn't. But in my testing it didn't and I found that to be impressive as I was not expecting good results let alone perfect.

There's a lot to be said for the iPhone platform as well. The apps are much more numerous and while some people hate iTunes I have always liked it quite a bit. But there are a lot of limitations. It's rather frustrating actually as no one phone seems to get it all right (yet at least). There are things I like about both the EVO and the iPhone. Frankly, I wish I could take the best features of each and merge them into a Frankenstein phone. I'm not sure I will be entirely happy with either as things stand now and that's the problem.

Dude, seriously. Go away. The battery on your EVO would barely have lasted the time it took you to create this thread.

I'm just saying.

Enjoy your Evo. It pretty much can't touch the iPhone 4. But then that's just my opinion.
