congrats. like the reviews say, it's evolutionary rather than revolutionary. i upgraded and like the new model better, but agree the difference is not so significant -- nothing like the change from the original iPhone to the iPhone 3G. Or the most recent macbook air update.

And the iPad 1s are on quite a discount now.

I decided to cancel my iPad 2 order and instead order the first generation iPad, and a iPod touch. I did this for the following reasons;
I can't find the iPad 2 anywhere and don't wanna wait 3-4 weeks to maybe get it.
I don't want to pay almost $750-$1000 or more for a 16Gb iPad Touch.
I don't want to wait in lines for two days and come home without one.
I don't want to wait for my order just to get one damaged or with flaws like a yellow scene or the backlight issues.
Lastly by doing this and buying the iPad 1 and iPod touch new, I have two devices that I can use for different things, the picture quality is better and all together these two items are cheaper than the iPad 2 I wanted together and will arrive sooner. Also I will be able to get an ipad 2 later after the lines and issues are a thing of the past.:apple:

I think it was a good choice. I don't really see that much of a difference between the first and second generation. My friends that own one say that it's not a must have upgrade, and they said the original iPad might be a smarter choice because of the money you save.

It's getting hard for me to wait as well. This may sound weird, but it's actually helping that I can't afford one right now (I don't get my taxes back for another week or two) To me, not being able to afford one at all is a little easier to handle since even if they were in stock I couldn't buy one. I'm hoping that they'll be somewhat easier to find in a couple weeks. I don't really have a problem getting up early or whatever, but I only know of one time when any of the stores in my area had stock since launch (I live in Eugene, OR, not exactly a metropolitan area, and there's no apple store here).

But I've thought about doing what the OP did and It's just really hard for me to buy last years tech. The performance increases aren't minor, 9x the graphics and 2x the cpu power is a big improvement and will allow me to get the most out of current and future apps. Plus I intend on using it for garageband, iMovie, games, and I want the smoothest multitasking I can get, (that in addition to the standard stuff like media consumption) so it's really pretty essential for me. I also like the addition of cameras, even though they're really not a necessity or anything, just a nice added bonus. It would be a completely different story if I already owned the 1st gen though, I probably wouldn't even be upgrading in that case, but if I'm going to buy a device and I have the means to get the better version, then why not?

I've been looking into the xoom also, since the wifi only model is launching soon and I really like the interface and the device in general, but the early state of honeycomb and the unpredictable android market (not a lot of tablet apps, other apps don't scale well, and there's some stability issues, crashing etc.) are a real turn off to me. I mean the fact that it doesn't have a netflix app is a big turn off on its own. I know it will get better in the future (I actually have pretty high hopes for it) but, that being the case, I'd be more apt to get an iPad now, and get a honeycomb tablet down the line when they have more/better apps available and they've increased the stability of the platform.

Anyways, I'm gonna try to hang in there, I believe that my want for the newer hardware is stronger than my desire to have a tablet ASAP so I think in the end, unless the xoom progresses quickly enough that I can do what I want with it before I'm able to get an ipad 2, I'll end up with the ipad 2. Oh, and I'm looking to get a black 32gb wifi only model (or I'd settle for white, not THAT picky). Just in case anyone was curious.
