I am moving in 2 months and decided that when I move I wont order cable, just internet. I think moving is a good excuse to break up the cycle, and if I crack I can always order later. I want to give it a run, I am sure I will be more productive without television.

*lets hope I stick to my guns on this

Eh, I don't watch a lot of TV but I love it when I can. I watch a lot of shows on cable too so I keep it (plus I don't pay for it). I love sports games and couldnt live without ESPN and the other various sports networks. I also have a weird habit watching odd shows on MTV. I love the Discovery channel, as long as its not about a stupid motorcycle. HBO is a must with shows like Entourage starting again. The rest of the movie channels are ok, but I like to watch a movie on there every now and then. I have no idea what my parents pay for cable but I am sure its a lot. I think we have the most expensive package and we have 2 HD recievers.

Seriously, why not just get rid of the TV altogether? I sh*t-canned mine years ago and life is WAY better without it.

Unless you would feel left out if you couldn't join in on all those riveting water-cooler conversations about "Idol" and "Lost", what's the point in wasting your time watching tee-vee?

Junk your television. Read more books. Talk to your spouse/kids/cat more. In short, get more out of life. ;)

Actually my mom and I always watch TV together and we talk all about it. And it is not like I can't turn it off or talk to someone while its on. All a matter of how your life is.

Funny you say that. Basically, I have. My monitor is an industrial Panasonic Plasma without any built-in tuner. So when I told them to come pick up my digital cable box, I no longer owned any device with a tuner built in. (I do not own a Tivo, VCR or DVD recorder.)

The only reason to keep the display is to watch movies and music videos. I agree, there are plenty of reasons to toss TV--and I did. I'm reading more and listening to my music more. Life is better for it. I do miss the Bowflex commercials though... NOT! :D
