I didn't even notice the "Mark forums read" button you mentioned. I just clicked it to see how that works out. I wasn't exactly keen on trying it, but figured I'd be back to normal in a month or so since the forum software appears to auto-magically show posts older than 30 days as read anyway.
I can already say this didn't work either and is only temporary. There's been some activity in the "iOS 18 Speculation Thread," and that one is back to being stuck unread for me.

Seeing this now in a mods-only thread that had some discussion today. 60+ days inactivity before today.

ADD: comes and goes. Can go into some thread, "Watched" shows nothing unread. Go to main forum, still nothing unread. Pop into different sub-forum, shows unread thread. Rinse repeat.

Though I haven't mentioned it up to now, I have wondered since my original post whether the issue here might possibly be to do with posts by ignored members.

There are multiple possible reasons for wanting to ignore posts by certain members, and of course such features should be used judiciously - but I do know that I currently do have some ignored members, who probably do have posts on all the threads I have issues with, and I've wondered since the start whether the issue might possibly be related to this. Partly because I have a feeling that this problem only started to happen after I (felt that I) had a reason to start to ignore posts by a couple of members.

I don't know whether any one else suffering from the issue can comment? E.g. if anyone suffering from the issue definitely doesn't have any ignored members, then that would put paid to that idea!

I'm not ignoring anyone either.

A fifth one joined the others for me a couple of days ago. Only two are stuck unread right now since no one has replied to the other three since I marked the whole forum read last week, but I know they'll be back again once someone does reply to them. Continuing to mark the forum read is not a solution that I want to keep doing every time this happens.

Do we need to submit our issues through the contact form? Arn and customer support replied early on, but we haven't heard anything more since then.

And working correctly now/again. Really odd.
Even when you refresh your Watched list? There are times when the badge doesn't show and everything appears read, but they come back if I refresh the page.

Even when you refresh your Watched list?

Yes. Still showing, correctly, nothing unread in my list.

I do cleanup the watch list from time time, stop watching threads that appear to be dead and or no longer interested in.

Think I did that the other day (day before that?) and that act might have fixed whatever index/field/value was "stuck"?

Same problem

I had another thread that was stuck but I unwatched it and can't remember which one it was.
Wish I could do a database query "thread contains post by self and is not watched by self?"
Maybe a button could be added to profile section to perform that query.

Unwatching a thread removes the unread status in the watched list until you try to watch it again.

Yes, unwatching the thread helps, until you start to watch it again. Then it is again stuck unread.

I had a couple of new stuck threads a few days ago. I used the forum's "Mark Read" button, and they became unstuck. They're still unstuck now.

This is the only thing I've tried that will unstick a stuck thread. It doesn't prevent threads from sticking in the future, it just fixes the stuck ones in the enclosing forum.
While this does indeed unstick the threads, it's worth noting that it is the same threads which eventually become stuck again (i.e. it's not just that this unsticks the problem threads and then there's no problem until some new, probably different, random one eventually becomes stuck). I would definitely say that the thread becoming stuck again is to do with new posts: I'm pretty it never shows as stuck again until there's been at least one new post. I also _think_ it's correct that not all new posts trigger it - just some (but no idea which, or why).

I sometimes see the same thread get stuck again, but if it happens at all, it takes several new posts.

Sometimes I see a different thread get stuck. It hasn't been a thread that was created recently, only older ones.

I agree with both points.

At least these stuck Watched threads are not stuck in the Alerts list.
Yeah, thank goodness. I've stopped posting updates here, but I have 11 stuck threads now. The alerts list is about the only way I can keep on top of things. It's getting pointless for me to go through my Watched list anymore because it's difficult to keep track of which threads are stuck and which ones actually have something new. Or when a stuck thread does have something new, it doesn't take me to the right post.

This thread just became stuck.

It's a relatively new thread, and hadn't been dormant at all.
There's a two-month gap between November and January, and another 30+ day gap between January and last weekend. (I consider a thread that has had no activity for 30+ days at some point to have gone dormant.) Again, I don't know if that has anything to do with this issue or if it's just a coincidence with most of these threads.

The newest thread that is stuck for me was created last month. It was created on Jan 20th and the last reply was on Jan 22nd...until someone replied to it yesterday (Feb 26th) and it's now stuck. (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/caldigit-ts4-sd-uhs-ii-card-slot.2447787/)

Hmmm, I hadn't noticed those earlier posts. I just became aware of this thread when it became active over last weekend. And it had been acting normally, but then became stuck just today.
