Same issue here with several threads which I'm not even watching. Has there been any indication that this issue is even being attempted to be resolved?

I'm still having this problem as well. Last night I unwatched all threads in my subscription list hoping that will somehow trigger a reset of the database or something.

It's very annoying and doesn't seem like anything's being done about it. The forum could definitely use better software.

I haven't observed that changing a thread's Watched status has any effect. The only thing that I have seen have any effect is the "Mark Read" button on the forum the thread is in.

Sometimes the effect is short-lived, as in the next post to the thread makes it become stuck again. Sometimes the effect has a longer lifetime. I haven't seen any way to predict lifetime.

I have 5 stuck threads. Just holding my nose and living with it. Sometimes unwatching a thread and then watching it again after a couple of days fixes the problem. But that doesn’t always work. The same thread just gets stuck again.

I had 1 stuck thread for over a month and magically yesterday it fixed itself...🤷‍♂️

I've used the Mark Read button on individual threads numerous times and the issue reappears right away, or within minutes. I've also used the Mark Forums Read option numerous times and the issue persists.

As someone above me stated, I'm also getting multiple threads getting stuck in this unread status. It will get hung up on a particular post, usually one of mine, from days or weeks ago, and when clicking on on the thread it will take me to that older post and then I have to scroll down to the real newest post since my last visit, even if that means clicking through a page or two.

I've tried several browsers, Firefox-based and Chromium-based, on Linux, Android, iOS, and macOS. Fresh and clean installs of browsers and the issue replicates itself on all of them.

This thread is one of my worst offenders. I have it unwatched and no matter how many times I read to the end of it, or mark it read, it stays stuck on unread upon returning to the Community forum and clicking on the thread brings me back to the post as linked above here.

On the main https://forums.macrumors.com/ page, the default filter is to show unread threads only. As we can see the thread example above is visible in what looks like a read state. Though because it was looked at, it shouldn't be showing up in its current state and page filter.

Has @arn looked at what this issue could be yet?

This is an issue for me with multiple threads in multiple forums. I'm quickly losing interest in wanting to even visit this site anymore.

It is very annoying. But the solution someone else posted does help: click on the last 'breadcrumb' at the top of a broken thread, and mark that whole parent forum as read.

E.g. The link below is the one to click on if it applied to this thread, then there's a 'Mark read' button. Marks all the threads in the forum as read, not just the problem one - but does remove the sticky unread icon... until the next post.

I've done that and it is, at best, a very temporary solution. What would be nice is having a fully functioning forum. It shouldn't be that hard, none of the other forum sites I go to have this problem.

I have to agree - there are some threads here I am attached to - but it is an off-putting bug.

Any progress report or update available from any admins following this?

I've noticed it on threads like posting your Android home screen thread, the Apple/Samsung thread in the Android forum, and the EV Car talk in the community forum. Kind of annoying.

I also have a couple of threads that just won't stay read...sort of speak.

At the moment this is one of the most consistent "offender": https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/2434547

I can use the Mark Read button, or go i to the thread, but shortly after that it's unread again on the watch list. What's extra special is that this is consistent over 2 different Macs I use (MacBook Air M1 at home and MacBook Air M2 at work), both using Safari and usually on the latest macOS.

I’ve had this issue for a while to. Watched threads appear to show a new post has been made. But when I go to them it either takes me to the first post or the last post. Both of which I’ve already read. The car thread is one of those in the community discussion section for sure.

I'm sorry, but this is getting ridiculous. Like others on here, more and more stuck threads are accumulating in my watch list. What's the point of watching threads anymore if they're going to stay unread all the time? It's getting really difficult to mentally keep track of what I've read and what I haven't.

When I see it happen (which is often), I have to mark all forums read to fix it. I'm just lucky that satisfies my requirements.
