As the title says, the forum does not update the watched threads and the alert panel.
Even after visiting the threads again, there are no more posts marked as new, but the display remains, also the alerts don't go away after visiting the threads. Tried with Firefox, Brave and ungoogled-chromium, so it is the forum itself.

I’ve just noticed this today on my iPhone 13 (iOS 18 beta), using Safari. The alerts return even after I’ve visited the relevant threads. I’ve never seen this behavior before.

Now it seems to work again.

This wasn't the first time, this happened to me though.

Yes, seems to be back to normal. Maybe someone toggled something then realized their mistake.. I’ve done that with phpBB, it happens.

There appear to be some issues with the site at the moment. Have had a variety of errors and other weird things happen to me over the past 20 minutes or so. We are discussing with staff now, hopefully it will be resolved soon.

I have a thread in my watched threads that I cannot mark as read.

Each time I mark it read, it seems to work (the UI changes as if it was marked read), but then if I close then reopen macrumors.com, I have a badge showing one watched thread unread, and when I go back to the list of watched threads it has the same post on the same date showing unread again.

The post is https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/refindplus-opencore-by-mybootmgr.2231693/post-33474474 . (So far nothing has been posted to the thread since.)

This seems a bit similar to (but not quite the same as?) https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/erroneous-badge-on-watched-threads.2298332/ .

I'm not sure the cause. Have you tried unwatching the thread, mark all read, and rewatching?

I can probably nuke the entry in the database, but that seems kinda overkill and don't want to have any unintended consequences.

I've just tried, Unwatching the re-Watching didn't fix it. I'm happy to wait until another post appears on the thread, and then report back.

It seems to have resolved itself in due course, even though no new posts have yet appeared on that thread.

I guess I will post back here if it starts up again for any reason, e.g. with a new post on that thread, but hopefully not!

Thank you, @arn and @xJustxMegx, for your help.

Oh god - I spoke too soon! Poking around on the thread, it has come back again! I'll still wait for a new post on that thread, then report back.

@xJustxMegx - Thanks for that test reply. @arn - Aaargh! It didn't help! Now @xJustxMegx's comment in that thread is showing as the comment I just cannot mark as read so that it stays marked!

EDIT: I just tried paging through every single thread page of that thread, from 1-64, in case something was lurking somewhere - it also didn't help. :-(

No worries, always happy to help!

Okay, this made me laugh. I really hope @arn can fix this for you, it's only that thread? Does the issue also appear while you are incognito?

It is only this thread.

Do you mean incognito mode in my browser? If so, yes, it does still happen. And also after logging in to MR on other browsers that I don't normally use.

I'm having this issue too, or something similar. I started watching a thread earlier today (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-18-speculation-thread.2419563) and it always appears unread in my watch list. Clicking on it takes me to the very first post, even if there is a new post since I last looked at it. Marking it as read appears to work, but then it shows as unread again when I reload the page.

When I unwatch the thread and mark it as read, that doesn't stick either. So not sure if watching has anything to do with this issue. I just can't mark that particular thread as read whether I'm watching it or not.
