Well it works now. I'm not quite sure what happened. What did the trick was changing the port from 21 to 22...after I realised that I may have been using the wrong port. *facepalm* I feel very stupid now. Anyway this probably isn't the fix that most people are looking for haha.

What I'm confused about was why it didn't work with OS X's built-in SSH. Doesn't it use port 22? If it did use port 22 then perhaps there was a problem with the SSH on my phone in which case going through the steps posted by other users have fixed it the problem.

Sorry for my stupidity.

I've had the same problem, re-jailbroke with redsnow b3, reinstalled corona 1.0.3, no luck getting ssh to work. infuriating...anyone got any other ideas?

Worked!

Thank you guys, installing Corona 1.0-3 and rebooting solved the problem!

Did you reboot after installing Corona?

gah, glad it worked out for you!

unfortunately i've rebooted many times since installing Corona. perhaps im not succeeding in turning SSH back on? I've been using the SBSettings toggle to do that, but apparently at the moment that only allows you to turn SSH *off*. Is there another way to set SSH to on before rebooting?

Yes, there is the "Toggle SSH" tweak in Cydia. But I'm not sure it helps because it din't for me before Corona installing. Maybe you should try to re-jailbreak your phone with another redsn0w version? I did it with 0.9.10b1.

By the way, when I installed Corona I also upgraded the MobileSubstrate in Cydia. Did you do the same?

Yes I did. JB Redsnow b3, Corona 1.0.3, latest Mobile Substrate 0.9.3993. Have tried the "Toggle SSH" tweak as well, no luck. Rebooted many times using various permutations of on/off/reinstall then reboot. Still can't get SSH to turn on. Is there some mobileterminal-based way I could try, or would that not make a difference?

Redsnow b1 is supposed to be the one with the launchctl problems, so I don't really want to revert to that. But I'll try that now.

I guess I could restore and re-JB with latest untether, and if that still doesn't work, restore and JB tethered (when SSH was last working for me). will be v. time consuming, but perhaps only option left? (Thanks for all your suggestions btw)

Corona Untether solves them

I'm sure one of these ways will work for you

, and if that still doesn't work, restore and JB tethered (when SSH was last working for me).
especially this I think. Good luck!

I erased everything, did a clean install, JB and installed Corona, but SSH still didn't work.

Then for some reason, turning my wireless network security (WPA off) allowed SSH and WifiSMS to work, even when I turned it back on again using the same settings!

Infuriating to think that I didn't need to restore. But phone feels a bit faster, and I've got SSH back. The JB still seems to be causing problems with some launchdaemons, but nothing too unbearable. Great. Thanks for all your help everybody.

latest MobileSubstrate is 0.9.3995

Never had any problems while using cyberduck on OSX even with WPA on.

i had the same issue.

i tried to toggle ssh with the sbsettings toggle and was confused for a while that the toggle in the dropdown window showed me a different state then the toggle in the notification center.

after a reboot my ssh was activated and the toggling through sbsettings in the dropdown window works again.

maybe the two instances of sbettings (dropdown window and notification center) are interfering?

I only got SSH to work by disabling my WiFi network's security, making a connection using an FTP Client (Transmit), then re-enabling security. Subsequent connections worked.

As for toggling SSH: I noticed the mismatch between the SBSettings toggle in the dropdown and NC/Lockinfo plugin. Maybe part of the issue is with SBSettings? On a separate note, whenever I use the dropdown window SBSettings freezes my phone for c. 30s. Perhaps being used in the notification center, dropdown window and as a plugin by Lockinfo is causing problems for SBS?

I just leave all the SSH toggles on permanently now (after changing the default password for SSH, obviously).

Might as well ask this here too...

so I was having this same problem and decided to re JB over my current one.

To my surprise it worked.

However, when I got a connection with my phone it asked to upgrade something and so I did concerning the connection, so I did.

Since adding a theme to the themes folder, Winterboard has stopped working (displaying my change of slidelock etc, that were working fine before the re JB).

It displays the added folder/theme however after respringing, it does not make the changes and infact leaves everything as default (themes and icons etc).

Has anyone experienced this or know what to do?

i had the same problem.. reset network settings and ssh is now working.

thanks! resetting the network solved this prob.. downside is I lost all the network passwords i have saved over the years :|

reboot and problem was solved. Maybe this will work for you all.

I turned SSH off then on and rebooted my iPod Touch 4G and OpenSSH is working. Thanks, I should have realized a respring wouldn't load it.

Be careful with resetting network settings, your wifi connection passwords will be cleared as well.

A weird observation:

Open sbsettings windows and enable the SSH. Leaving the sbsettings windows open, slide your finger from top to middle screen to pull down the notification center and without lifting your finger, slide finger back to the top to close the notification center. You will realize that the SSH toggle in the sbsettings windows turns to disable.

can anyone add some insight on a fix here? i'd like to avoid re-JBing my 5.0.1 iPhone4 since it's a hassle to restore all of my tweaks/settings/repos (if there's a simple restore method please let me know as this would be the easiest way to fix the SSH problem--according to earlier posts at least)

download a backup tool from cydia and you won't lost all your tweaks/settings/repos.

Partial SSH

I've had my untether jailbreak for a few bit now and I've been able to SSH into it just fine until last night, kind of. I'm accessing my iPhone through Finder on my Mac, and I can log in and even look at some files, yet for some reason other folder/files won't load. Like when I look in /var it says there's nothing in there, which I find very odd. I used Cyberduck and I can see all the files using that app, but I prefer using Finder, does anyone know why this is happening?

i know someone might come back to this thread looking for an answer .. so many reboots blah blah n blah installed nothing worked .. the only thing worked was i had to download the LATEST version (not the old one) of the corona 5.0.1 untether application .. it was at 1.0-5 for me .. immediately after installation gave me a rebbot option and le voila , ssh worked out of the box!!

hope it helps someone !!!
