I've found it odd that Lion and Eos Utility (2.6.0) works fine when using my 5D MkII, but not my Mark I

I did upgrade, but it didn't work at all (copied the 2.6.0 version back from my MacBook).

So to get my images from the Mk1 I put the CF in my 5D MkII (I know I could use a card reader, but I like the saving options Eos Utility gives me when importing from a camera)

i would really like to know how to solve this. I have recently bought a canon 60d and i can'y download my pics. i tried version 2.8 like mackmgg said, but it didn't work.

i hating lion!!!!

I'm sure Canon will update EOS Utility soon, but until then you'll probably be stuck. The 60D came out after EOS Utility 2.8 I think, so it probably won't work. As said, you should be fine with iPhoto or just copying the files directly. Also, OS X comes with Image Capture (in the Applications folder), which lets you copy your photos easily.

What about 2.8.0? I linked to it from Canon's site on the previous page, and that still works in Lion, but may work better.

help with deleting update.plist

Hello,
Anyone having problems deleting the update.plist file? I am getting an unexpected error (error code-61.) any ideas to why this is happening?

Did you drag it out of the DMG first? The one you download is read-only

Got it deleted..

and installed, but EosUtility does not run when my camera is plugged in, turned on and switched to the play mode. (AS IT SHOULD.) I do not know what I am doing wrong but Canon's site tells me there are no drivers available for my camera and all that is needed is EosUtility. I currently run MacOsX 10.60--intel. So like I said, my problem is that the Mac I am using will not read my camera, even with EosUtility installed and ready to use.

It won't pop open on its own by default, but you can set it to if you want. If you open Image Capture with the camera plugged in and selected, there's an option in the lower left corner that asks what do do when that camera is plugged in. Just select EOS Utility from the list, and it should open automatically

well..

see, the problem is, the mac doesn't even recognize a device is there-that's why I thought I needed (nonexistent) drivers for it to be recognized. When I open EOSUtility it doesn't recognize a camera is plugged in either. Works fine on PC, just not the Mac which I do most of my photo editing on. Thanks again for everyone's help and support thus far, I feel we are getting down to the bottom of all this. :D

thank you! plus one addition...

Thank you, thank you! I'm also in the position of having no idea where my original Canon CDs are... and I recently upgraded to a new computer. It is rather silly of canon to have such a restriction on the software-- what exactly do they expect us to do with the software if we haven't already purchased a canon camera?

In any case, I sincerely thank the previous poster for the following instructions, which worked brilliantly on my Mac OS 10.6.x computer...

- Show Package Contents of the UpdateInstaller
- Show Package Contents of the SDI.bundle
- delete the Contents/Resources/update.plist
relaunch the UpdateInstaller.
Works w/o CD

I would just add... if you having trouble deleting the file (not allowed) then make sure you have copied the software to your computer, rather than just running it off of the virtual CD that downloads from the site.

You all saved me a lot of hassle, or hours of searching for that CD...

Well apple does the same. I guess it is a way to reduce usability of stolen cameras.

It can't concern them too much when their tech supports sends it as an application though.

Fraid I think the tech support who say "you need to buy a new CD" are just being bloody minded to be honest.

Was in the same boat the other day in fact, lost MacBook, CDs long since disguarded and backup not available (until next month) and needed EOS Utility. Pain in the arse - but a friend helped us out in the end.

Just now, I had the problem of not having my CD with me to do an install on my macbook... the Update.plist was removed from more recent versions of the updater so it's back to square one.

Luckily, I was able to find the 2.4 version on Canon's site http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0029171.asp even though everything seems disabled on that site, go to the bottom and click on the file name. Then just remove the UpdateInstaller from the DMG, then showpackage contents, Ressources, delete the Update.plist. Now, you can install the 2.4 version, then download the standard updater to bring it back to the current version.

Still don't quite understand why Canon does this. Seems very unprofessional by their part, lots of professionals depend on this app. If you don't have the stupid CD, you're screwed. If you're using it, it's because you have an EOS camera, not like you're a Nikon shooter using it. Basically they don't offer it and hope that people that loose it or don't have it with them will just pony up the 10$ or what ever they want for a CD with a 20Mb app. Seems very inconvenient and greedy to me. It's not like the app was huge and when you download the updater, you actually download the whole thing...

Yeah, I'm just pissed off going through all this to find a 20Mb I already own and that would be completely useless to anyone who doesn't own it.

This worked perfectly! Thank you for your help everyone.

EOS Utility update for OSX Lion

I was just poking around the canon website and on the Lion compatibility section it said that they are releasing a Lion update for the EOS utility in the first quarter of 2012.

http://usa.canon.com/cusa/macosx_lion

I guess we'll see what happens

I just ran into this with my T3i. I had not used EOS utility in AGES since the only thing I used it for was to transfer extra Picture Styles to my XSi. I really like the Twilight one! Now I just upgraded to the T3i (was seriously looking at the 60D but lighter and smaller won out for my small girl hands... and I could use the extra cash towards a good lens) But anyway I went to install the EOS utility to transfer the Twilight picture style over again, and got disappointed when the 'OS not supported' message came up :(

Does anyone know the manual settings for 'Twilight' so I can input them manually on the camera itself? I imagine the contrast and saturation are higher but I just can't seem to get the colours right to get that deep purply blue hue! :(

And is there any other way to get the actual picture style files on to the camera without using EOS Utility?

Canon EOS Utility for OS X Lion

I use Canon SLR Digital Cameras. I am trying to download recent photos on my MAC but cannot access the camera because I have installed EOS OS X Lion and the EOS Software Utility is not updated. Does anyone know when the Canon EOS Utility for OSX Lion will be available for download. If you know a site where I can currently download the software update much appreciated. I have tried Canon USA but cannot find the update. I agree the site is quite messy.

Thanks in advance.

I usually plug the SD card into my computer as it's less trouble than plugging it in via USB. But without the EOS software utility, your camera will show up in iPhoto or Camera Capture for you to take the pictures out.

EDIT: I don't know if there's a Lion version of the software, just wanted to help you out with a workaround.

I have been unable to use the EOS Utility since I upgraded to Mountain Lion (Canon 40D). There was a note that a Mountain Lion versions would appear in October, but as of this last weekend, nada.
