manually focusing on my XSI is not the most accurate in the world. Manually focusing would be ideal on a 5d/1DSx.. The viewfinder is amazing and bright. I had no problems manually focusing on my EOS-3.

It is difficult through the viewfinder, yes, but Live View makes it much easier. I always use Live View when focusing manually (and only a tripod), with the view zoomed in to 10X. I can nail it every time this way.
I also have it on my 40D, but after experimetning a little I find it is best left alone; however, it is great when you use a tripod and want to focus manually.
I just got the Rebel XSI but I noticed that it won't shoot in RAW in full auto mode. Kind of disappointing as my Sony A200 shot RAW in any and every mode.
This is the best advice in this post. If you will be buying only a prime, then better get something like the 28 or 35 mm, since they provide the closest field of view to the standard 50 mm on FF cameras. The 50 mm on the XSi will be more of a portrait lens and too limiting as an only lens. So the best thing to do is either get the XSi with the 18-55 IS or the 35 f/2. Not sure about where you live, but here they sell the XSi in a kit with both the 18-55 IS and 55-250 IS, which are really 2 great lenses for their price.
