Still waiting to activate iPhone2

I have been trying to 'fully' activate my ol' faithful since Friday, the 13th! I, too have been given the runaround from Apple (tier II support) and ATT. At least I can make, receive phone calls (even with the emergency call screen) and get text messages...just can't reply to them! Meanwhile, iTunes is still frozen on the submit screen.

The reason why I had to re-activate my iPhone2 is because my other phone is out for repair. I joked and said by the time my replacement arrives they would have fixed this mess....my replacement will be here tomorrow.

It is true that AT&T does not have a fix yet. The good news is they understand and are working to resolve the problem. According to the Senior advisor the problem started to occur around 5-13-11. They didn't acknowledge it until Monday morning 5-16-11. With any luck the fix will be completed shortly. Until them I have a paper weight just like the rest of you.

Amazing - THat is my story EXACTLY!!

I had my iphone 3GS stolen on Saturday and had an old 1st gen iphone to reinstall but have been fighting with at&t and Apple for THREE DAYS! as they have blamed eachother for the "submit" button not working. Please let me know how to get through the "unlimited data loophole" that you metioned. Was excited to read the first posts but was disappointed that no one has offered a solution.... You guys are beginning to sound like AT&T!! A lot of talk and NO SOLUTIONS:):):)

I'm not entirely sure if I would want unlimited data, when you do the loophole and switch back to a newer iPhone do you have to then pay $30 a month?

A $5 dollar monthly increase vs having to monitor data usage is well worth it IMO.

I'm having the same problem here.... Does anyone have guidance how to fix this issue. ? (I work for AT&T and talked to many ppl I cant get it to work.

I have received the "fix". I won't know if it works yet until later this afternoon. If it does, I will post it. Hopefully around 5pm. Stay tuned!

I am very eager to know what the fix is. I wasted an hour yesterday going to AT&T and Apple store. My fiancee's iPhone 4 was stolen and we pulled out her old iPhone 2G. No one at Apple knew what to do. They ordered a "New" original iphone and when it comes in we will test to see if it is a problem with my phone or itunes.

From the sound of it, apple no longer supports the iPhone 2G.

Ok this is strange. I was prepared to do the fix but when I opened itunes and connected my iphone it said "detected different sim". I disconnected from itunes then reconnected and the phone was activated. Maybe they already fixed the problem. If not....here is what I was told to do.

When you get to the itunes store log in, create a new account (different email adress and password). You should have to put in a new credit card also. Hit continue. It should come up "failed" hit continue and it should come up "failed" again. Again hit continue. The phone should now activate and the new account should not be created because it failed. If it does....change it back. I hope this works because after all the aggrevation I never had to do this. Please post if this works. Good luck!

Sounds like a strange dance with the computer but I will give it a shot tonight.

It worked!!!

Amazing. Thanks for the info. Been banging my head for days. I bet there are a lot of AT&T and APPLE people that would like to know this loophole. Finally, I have a phone, albeit a 2G, but better than my old LG shine.

Thanks Again!

awesome! this worked perfectly! i've been in a back-and-forth game with AT&T and apple, both of whom had no idea what was wrong. Thanks so much!

It worked too for me!

Thank you for the help!! I had the same problem last weekend and was on the phone with Apple and AT&T for 3 hours...till the point I gave up and jailbroken. However it messed up my push notifications...

Thanks again for the fix guys!!!

Still Having Issue Activating 2G

Folks.. I'm v frustrated with this issue. I got a new SIM card at AT&T store and since then my 2G has been unusable because nobody can seem to get it activated through iTunes. I read about the fix mentioned in this forum but I'm not sure if I follow you correctly:

When I plug in my phone to the computer which has iTunes, I can see my phone show up under Devices (on the left hand side of iTunes page). it reads something like this:
Jack's iPhone

And on the right side all I see is a white page with only "iPhone" written. It doesn't take me anywhere. It didn't take me to the iTunes store directly. Now under the "Store" tab, I selected "Sign in" and then "register new user" with new credit card info, but even that didn't help.

I have tried it on iTunes 9 and iTunes 10. Can someone please tell me if they have seen this before and what the remedy is?

Thanks
