I reserved a 32gb iPhone 4S last for pick up today. I checked in at Apple at 11am and the guy said he can't sell because they got some email that forbids AT&T sales until 4p.

Anyone know what's going on?

That's very strange. And it was an Apple Store rep (as opposed to an AT&T store rep) saying that they couldn't sell AT&T iPhones until 4pm? To answer your question, I don't know what's going on with that but that sure is strange.

Yes it was the Apple checkin guy. They even said it to a couple other people....it was really weird

Called a couple Apple stores because AT&T wouldn't answer...they said the activation servers are down.

Apple sets the rules, not AT&T. However it's easy for an employee to say whatever he or she wants if they don't have the answer and are too lazy to get help from their manager.

It happens at all different kinds of stores all the time. It's not Apples failing. They hire & train. At the end of the day not every employee is perfect, nor as interested in serving the customer as they should.

If AT&T activations are down, Apple will still sell you the phone, explain that activations are down & they have a priority number to call at AT&T. When the system comes up AT&T calls you and completes the activation.

Moral of the story, if you don't get what you want simply ask for the store manager, they will be happy to assist you. Apple stores are very well run.

Since Apple hires and trains, it is, at least partially, their failing.

I and a few others have been trying to activate phones since last night and having issues with activation. Some time around midnight CST the myatt.com site went down for maintenance, and at 6 a.m. the normal maintenance message was changed to please re-visit the site after 5p.m. on sunday the 30th. This seems to jive appropriately with the O.P. Thanks to Dave for pointing me to this thread.

What's your point? Why did you quote my post?

I was referring to the situation vitzr created in his post, where an Apple employee gives a false reason (lies) because they don't know the real reason or are too lazy/badly trained to find out for you.

Wow Thats funny, my apologies. I have no explanation, didn't even notice that i quoted your post till i saw your response in my inbox, it wasn't intentional and has been corrected. All i can say is half my focus is watching the saints losing to the rams which defies all logic.

I went in the Apple store today...reserve ready, and picked it up..I was in and out in under 3 minutes...and It was the full 649.99 so I plugged it in, unlocked it became!

Your in the U.S. and did you activate on ATT? New line, upgrade, or just sim swap. If its just a sim swam i don't see how its relevant.

op: out of curiosity what time zone are you in?

I had an existing line, but i just went in, said I wanted a device only, took my sim out my iPhone 4, it worked...Came home, did a restore on the 4s, and it said it was unlocked...BUT other people in the store were upgrading their AT&T lines next to me...no problems...There was a dozen people upgrading at the same time with a specialist in the store...

That answers that, thanks. Servers worked fine for me after 5 pm.
