Did anyone ever figure out WTF is wrong here and how to fix it? I have a 27" 2017 iMac with Ventura. Ever since upgrading to Ventura, clicking on notifications doesn't do a damned thing. They just disappear when clicked. It's infuriating. I am using a magic trackpad and have a cabled mouse attached for when I'm gaming in Windows.
To get persistent notifications your settings need to be set for "alert"; "banners" go away after a while. Curious to see what you have in your settings.

I am having the exact same problem running Sonoma on a brand new 2024 Mac. I click on a notification and it just disappears. Very irritating and useless. I expect it to open the URL webpage shown in the notification.

That's not what this (very old thread) was about. The notification didn't even close in my case, but it's long fixed by now. You are probably seeing a different bug. Sorry to hear about it.

Yes it certainly is an old thread but has been recurring almost every year since 2016 right up to 2024.
In my case the notifications come from websites, the OP was referring to notifications from applications but the problem seems to be the same. I click on the notifications and they simply disappear. My app based notifications do function as expected.
