So I'm 2 weeks into owning my 6 Plus and am trying to decide if I should sell my iPad Air and just go with my 27-inch iMac alongside the iPhone 6 Plus.

I use my iPad Air primarily for couch web surfing, YouTube, and email, so nothing overly productive. Previously, my iPhone 5s was just not big enough for these tasks for extended periods, clearly justifying the need to own an iPad in between my iPhone and iMac. Now, seems like the 6 Plus is fine for everything but having a hard time parting ways with the iPad Air despite barely using it. Has anyone else in my situation pulled the trigger and ditched their iPad for an iPhone 6 Plus only? If so, have you found a scenario where you miss the iPad and would rather have it instead of the money you sold it for?

I'm will be (once I get my plus) in the same exact situation. My plan is: iphone 6 plus when at work or otherwise out of the house. iPad air at home.

Same as I do now with my 5. The screen of the ipad air is still way bigger than the plus. So I don't want to downscale for couch surfing or the Kindle app.

And with continuity, I can even make and receive phone calls on the Air (when at home).

I wrestled with the very same question when deciding which iPhone to get; I figured it could be good to have one device that lets me do iPhone & iPad-like tasks instead of 2 separate machines, since I own a Macbook anyway for sitting still.

I'm glad I didn't now though, because my iPad and iPhone are both suited to totally different tasks. My iPhone is my pocket dweller and my iPad rides in my messenger bag, but the 6 Plus doesn't feel like it fits in either; it's too big make sense in the pocket, but it's too small to make sense in a bag.

In the end I kept my iPad and chose the 6, and I don't regret a thing.

Does this mean you owned both an iPad Mini and an Air? If so, you're the wrong guy for me to be asking since you found use for the same device 2" apart.;)

Well yes, I have both iPads, and it perfectly suits my use case. One stays home (relegated to media and games ), while the other went with me..pretty much everywhere because my pockets weren't big enough to holster the Air ;)

Now, with the 6+, the mini seems redundant. Hence, I may just sell it to reduce the :apple: clutter! :)

While the 6 Plus is undoubtedly a nice phone I don't know how it can replace an iPad. While it's a large screen for a phone, I can't see using it as a sole means to web surf while relaxing at home. Seems to small for that. But that's just my opinion. YMMV!!!

These are my thoughts also.

The 6+ is for comfortable, shorter term, on-the-go screen viewing. When I am at home, I may look at it briefly and play around (since its still new to me), but when I am settling in for the evening on the sofa or laying across my bed, I'm grabbing my iPad to do my surfing/reading/game play.

It won't. Neither will the mini. I find the web browsing exp with the air great I don't need to zoom at all. With anything smaller

If all you're doing is email, web surfing, and some light app usage, no point in keeping the Air IMO. I have an Air and I use it for reading comic books, reading academic papers, and so I don't have to carry a laptop when I travel. For those purposes, it's great and the 6 Plus is no replacement for it. But if your needs are such that the 6 Plus covers everything, then sell it now before the new iPads are announced the value drops.

I have the 6 now and a new Plus showing up tomorrow to compare. I also have an Air. Traveling to the west coast next week and outside of some couch surfing air travel is the only time I use the Air. I'm not in a position where I must decide between the two but would like to give my wife the Air if the Plus does the trick. My two workhorses are my MBP and iPhone 6 (or 6 plus).

My 6 Plus isn't here until Monday, so my comment is kind of redundant, but I don't see how it is going to render my iPad (4th gen) unused, except maybe for the first week or so while I use the 6 Plus for everything because it's new and interesting. The 6 Plus is still a phone, just The only thing I can possibly see happening is my iPad leaving the house less often. If anything, I think the 6 Plus would make me more open to owning a larger iPad (thus probably spending more) as opposed to not having one. My iPad gets a lot of use when I'm at home.

Remember that your 6 Plus is still new and exciting. Unless you could do with the cash, don't rush to sell your Air. See what your usage is like in a month or two when you lose your bias for the new device.

As someone who uses his iphone 4S for everything (except pc related stuff) yes 4S, my iphone 6 plus to be will absolutely replace the ipad. In my household I have 2 ipad minis and an ipad 2 for my children. I rarely use any of them. Occasionally when my children are asleep I may use one of the minis just to give my eyes a break, but I find them too big to get comfortable with on the couch. So I use predominantly my 4S. So when I finally get the iphone 6 plus, I will never have a need to use my kids' tablets again.

Someone said above that the 6 plus is too big for the pocket and too small for his bag, implying that the 6 plus is neither here nor there. I take the view that the 6 plus is big enough to use as a tablet and small enough to be used as a smartphone, hence, phablet. To me, as a 4S user who for 3 weeks dabbled with a note 3, the 6 plus will be the ideal device to kick back and consume media. But I understand that this is not for everyone and that is fine, that's why Apple is finally giving us choices...win win for them and us.

I have the 6 plus and 6 in our family and I originally thought the 6 plus could replace the Air. So far, I do not think it can come close. There are still too many websites, including this forum, that are much easier to read and navigate using the Air (as it acts like a normal computer) compared to the 6 plus. Air is also much better for browsing newspapers, magazines, spreadsheets, powerpoints, etc.... So Air and future released iPad improvement will be staying.

I think the novelty of the 6 Plus may be playing a role in my thinking as well. I sort of want it to be an iPad replacement and am using it a ton because I just got it, but once the 5.5" screen becomes the new normal (I'm already use to it to the point that it just feels like an iPhone) than I think my love for the iPad Air will return.

I was wrong....Keeping my Air and iPhone 6. There is a 6 Plus in the Marketplace for sale now (a few hours old).

Over 2 weeks in and have only used my iPad Air once or twice. Each time felt a little unnecessary with my Plus right next to me. The added screen size of the Air is still significant enough to justify having both but only exasperates the notion of the iPad being a luxury instead of a necessity for me.

My biggest complaint though - Those diamond-cut chamfered edges of the Air feel like razor blades compared to my 6 Plus' rounded edges. I think rounded edges would be an awesome design tweak for the iPad Air.
