I have a new 13" MBP and the 27" HP Envy USB C monitor. I'm trying to find a hub that will allow me to connect a single cable to my laptop. I only need to connect a USB keyboard and the display. I've purchased the Avotch and Satechi hubs.

Both work for the keyboard but neither of them pass video through to the monitor. Do I need to be looking for a new kind of hub or dongle?

After doing some further research, it looks like I need a hub that not only has USB C but also Thunderbolt 3 if I want to charge and pass video through the USB C port. Is that correct? If so, are there any products on the market yet that will do this?

The hubs you have been looking at have USB-C ports designed for power passthrough - not data (or video).

But, if you have the HP USB-C monitor, why not just use one of the USB-C ports on the back of it to connect your keyboard? No hub needed.

Because the monitor only has 1 USB C port. It also has 2 HDMI port but that then has me connecting 2 cables. I'm trying to find a hub that will allow me to connect the keyboard and the laptop with a single cable. Are there any currently available hubs that will pass video and power over USB C?
The LG monitor has 3 USB C ports. With that, I could use an adapter to leave the keyboard plugged into the display at all times and then just connect another USB C cable from the display to the laptop. But the HP monitor is half the price of the LG monitor so that's why I went with it.

You would need a thunderbolt 3 hub that has a thunderbolt 3 pass through. Not cheap. Better off getting a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
