Hi, I've used the Max in the past few weeks and still can not decide: will I bring it back and go for the Xs of keep it. The Max is a great phone but the weight worries me. Which Xs did you get and any regrets?

I purchase the Max at launch, weight, pocket ability was an issue, then seeing 1300+ on my bank statement etc. No brainer I sent it back, but got the XR and not the XS.

Personally I have the Max and after using it for about a month I prefer the size nd usability of the x(s). I’m a few weeks out of my return policy so I’m going to see if they’d mind swapping it anyways. Worst they can say is no.

XS Weight: 6.24 ounces (177 grams)
XS Max Weight: 7.34 ounces (208 grams)

How would less than a pound worry you? You have been using it for the past few weeks and just now concerned? I don't think weight has anything to do with it. I think you haven't been able to make up your mind from the beginning.

the max is too large like a brick basically it will be a mess using and carrying; you need a mens handbag/purse to carry and XS is width wise is good but is too high thus you cannot use it with one handed; so choose one which annoys you less as they both design wise are not good; too large/uproportional...to make it appear as much larger screen they make it very narrow and high which is not good as it is still to big; But if you really want one then XS is less annoying to use and carry

I had the Max, took it back and now have the Xs, couldn’t be happier, and this is from a 7+ to a Note8 to a Note9 to the Max then to the Xs. Always had big screen phones, loving the 5.8 Xs

I would just go with the XS. I might get the XS in June when I the chance to upgrade from the X or might wait for the 11 or whatever. I wouldn’t get the max because it’s the same reason why I hated the plus phones. It’s just way to big. The only iPhones I have ever broke once or even multiple times (5) was my 6 plus. That’s why I went with the 7 and never broke it. So far I’ve been fine with my X.

I can really notice the weight, even it is only less than a pound

I would buy both, then return the one you don't want. Around Thanksgiving, Apple has an extended holiday store return window, its almost 5-6 weeks over the 14-day return window now. That gives you plenty of time to determine which is right for you.

The only cons I have with my XS Max is, it is true what some have posted, it's a heavy phone. It's not pocket friendly and it's a tad big. But I think, I'd rather go XS Max screen size over XS. I bought and returned the X last year, and even coming from a 5S, I remember the X feeling small, even when I compared it to my 5S (obviously X is noticeably bigger than 5S), it was too small.

I'm getting use to the size of my XS Max, but every so often, I wonder, if I should go XS. I still have 3 days to make a final decision. I'm headed to Apple later today to take one last look at the XS.

I went with the Xs as the larger devices are too big for me, i came from an i7 so size is pretty much the same but more screen, if I could live with a bigger phone I’d have gone for the Max, but my sweet spot in size and for one hand use is the Xs.

Both very beautiful devices.

Adam.

I had the Max for about 2 weeks after it was released and ended up exchanging it for a XS instead. While the screen size of the Max was great for media consumption, it was quite uncomfortable to carry around in my pants pocket, even more so when trying to use it with one hand. The only other advantage the Max has is battery, but that isn’t even a factor since the battery life is only about 30 minutes better.

If the software was optimized and took advantage of the larger screen then the Max would be worth keeping, but right now that isn’t the case. The XS, for me at least, has been the perfect overall size for everyday use and offers ease of portability.

I wish you luck making a right decision and myself too :)

XS Max!

Coming from the X the XS Max is a pure joy watching video and playing games on. Surfing the internet is also much more pleasurable on the larger display.

Is it as one handed friendly as the XS? No, but the little inconvenience of a larger phone is worth it to me for the larger display, and I’ve already got used to it. I’ve also noticed that my iPad has been collecting dust since I’ve had the Max. Can’t put it down. :p

Yeah, the screen is gorgeous! I'm leaning 55% towards the Xs Max and 45% Xs

It's good for media consumption but for productivity I see no reason to buy a Max over the XS. iOS does not take advantage of the extra screen room. Just a lot of dead empty space. I think Apple should bring some features over from the iPad version of iOS to the Max. Make it a real Note competitor!

Think most Max users go for the experience of the screen

Exactly. The display is the main reason I went with the Max. Camera is also important but they are identical on XS and XS Max.

Do I prefer the XS feel in hand? Of course. It’s easier to handle one handed but I don’t find the Max unwieldy at all. The larger display makes it all worth it. When handling my wife’s X it feels small and cramped now and reassures my decision of going with the Max.

I do understand why people would want the smaller form factor of the XS though. My X was easier to handle but definitely not easier on my eyes. The Max makes everything easier to see and read.

Either way, it’s greag that Apple is giving us choices now. There’s a phone for everyone.

I don’t find the Max as unwieldy as the Plus phones. I’m fairly happy with my Max, although losing 2cm from the height would improve it in the usability stakes. I tried the X but found it just a taller 8, lacking the wide keyboard that makes typing easier and text more pleasurable to read and very unbalanced in my hard. This is all my personal opinion of course.

If I had he iPad mini and/or some other portable device simultaneously most times, i'd probably go with the XS. But since i don't and used to using two hands to hold and operate, I always go for the bigger model.

I have had the X since launch last year and if I upgraded this year, I would definitely go for the XS Max. Even a year later the X feel too small in my hands as I had every Plus iPhone and was used to the screen size of those phones. I even played with the XS Max at Best Buy and love the size. I know you can’t use it one handed all the time and I am perfectly fine with that. I’m saving money up to pay for next year’s iPhone X Max in full or at least 50% so I can keep it at the end of the lease instead of spreading it out for 3 years, since T-Mobile changed their EIP’s from 24 months to 36 months. I’m finally going to upgrade every 2 years instead of every year, like I’ve been doing for the past 7 years.
