Hey guys,

I have a 7 which i develop on so was running 11.2, on previous phones i have been able to buy them, add them to beta software, update them, and restore my old iphones backup.

Issue with the X is there is no 11.2 beta? So im stuck with a 11.2 beta backup of my old 7 that i cant restore my X with?

I assume theres no way around this than to put the X back in a drawer and wait for 11.2 to release for it?

Set up as a new phone, download the 11.2 beta, once updated, restore the phone and then restore from backup

yeah that was the plan as ive done previously, the issue is there is no 11.2 for the X it says updated to latest?

you can downgrade without loosing your data? i assume it needed a wipe

Backup to iTunes first just to be sure, but many including myself have been able to alt-click "Upgrade" in iTunes and downgrade a point release or so.

On another thread, someone did this successfully for the same reason, and their AW on 4.2 beta still worked, but I wouldn't guarantee it.

thanks do i need a file from somewhere for the downgrade? or does alt click let me do it automatically?

Hey guys this was resolved by down grading my old 7 and re doing the icloud backup on release version. Developer profile or not, there is no 11.2 for the X yet and there is no way of restoring it with a 11.2 iphone 7, hopefully this is fixed soon. but the solution was to downgrade

Is this happening only when you are restoring from an iCloud backup? I'm planning on setting up like a new phone and just pulling my iCloud info (pictures, contacts, keychain, etc.) down. Hoping I don't run into issues later today when I get my phone.

I cant confirm but i think its likely just mirror image backups of phones

So you were able to use your backup from 11.2 once you downgraded to 11.1?

This is definitely unusual. I upgrade my iPhone every year and I’m always using the most recent beta as well. There has never been a time over the last 3 or 4 years that I’ve been doing this that I wasn’t able to upgrade the new phone to the latest beta on launch day. Part of me thinks it’s an oversight and the 11.2 beta will be up for the X soon and I should just wait a bit, but part of me is being impatient and wanting to downgrade my 7 plus.

There is no image for the iPhone X on my developer portal for 11.2.

It does not differentaite between devices. It just says 11.2 beta.

Maybe I'm confused but wouldn't you just install this on your iPhone X? Then you would do Software Update via Settings on the iPhone X?

There are 2 solutions:
1. Download beta profile, and upgrade X to 11.2 (if available).
2. Downgrade IP7 to 11.1. Delete old back up, then create new backup now that you're on 11.1.

You should be fine. It won’t let you restore a backup from a newer OS to an older OS, but if you aren’t restoring the backup then you’ll have no problems.

This is definitely the normal way to do it, but when we do that it says that the phone has 11.1 and it’s up to date. If you click on ‘see all’ next to iOS restore images in your screen shot you will see there is no image for the X yet

You can't load the 11.2 backup to the x with 11.1. Someone had said earlier that as long as it's a version of 11.X it will accept it.

2. Downgrade IP7 to 11.1. Delete old back up, then create new backup now that you're on 11.1.

Using the second method, if I downgrade now it won’t ask me to restore? So I can go to 11.1, make a backup of my current state and then create a new one?

I’m not quite sure what you’re asking here. But you will need to downgrade your existing phone, then make a new backup, then restore the new backup to your new X. If you have already set up the X without restoring a backup then you will need to go to settings, then general, then reset, then erase all content and settings to wipe it. Then you’ll be able to go through the initial setup on your X again and restore it from backup at that time.
