Canton IM input

Hi, I'm the author of the IME plugin for Leopard.
Thanks for using the plugin I created and I hope you enjoyed it.
I apologies for the dead link of the plugin in my blog as I didn't update it afterward as I never think that there are people really need it out there.
So now I've just updated the link and everyone could download it again.
By the way, I did found some glitches in the plugin so I've fixed it year ago(but I didn't release it). Now the one available in my blog is the latest 1.1.4 which includes a more complete char set.
Installation is the same (for Leopard and SL), rename it to ct114.inputplugin and put into /Library/Input Methods
Then open Preferences->Language & Text->Input Sources, and you'll find the newly added canontese input.
Comments are welcome.
Enjoy~
Hi Sunny

Hi Sunny

Many thanks for yr dedication to make this plugin available.

thanks!

1. Download the file that Mercurox posted.
2. Rename file to ct1121.inputplugin
3. Copy file to Macintosh HD > Library > Input Methods
4. Go to System Preferences > Language & Text > Input Sources
5. Scroll all the way to the bottom - That's where it is.
6. Check the box
7. Also check the box that says "Show Input Menu in menu bar"
8. Open Stickies
9. Click on the U.S. Flag on your Menu Bar - You should see the list of Input Methods
10. Select your new Input Method
11. Start typing!

It works! 打到中文喇!

it works!! thx XDDD

Hi Stuc,

Attached file as requested. After you downloaded it, you need to rename the file by deleting the file extension ".txt", the correct/working file name is just "ct1121.inputplugin".

I have been using this input method for a while, it is ok but the vocabulary is not adequate and the input is a bit slow.

At the moment I am using NJStar Pen and NJStar WP in Window mode (Boot Camp) it is a lot quicker but if there is a programme written/designed for Mac that would be better...I think Pen Power might have come out with something for Mac but I just don't want to buy another tablet.

Also someone had written a programme called Finger which is free to download designed to be used on iPod Touch, utilising its handwriting recognition capability and transmit the input to your Mac by wi-fi.

Hope some of these input methods would work for you.

Cheers,
Merc

it works on my snow leopard!! now i can type cantonese on my mac!! cooooolXDD

hey! um i've downloaded the file ct114.inputplugin and i've put it in the input methods folder
but i dont see the method when i go to select it at system preferences
help please? :)

Custom Input Methods

Hi all,

Perhaps this link may help. I haven't tried making a new format yet but I will look into this after I try a simple restart. So far, I've downloaded each of the plugin files mentioned in the thread. I've added these files to the Input Methods folders but the input was not picked up right away (hence the reboot). One caveat is that I already have Chinese pinyin input enabled. I would want both Jyutpin and Pinyin. In the final analysis I may end up applying the new input method format if the reboot doesn't create a fix. Will report back results.

Dear Sunny,

I live in Macau and use a Mac and your input method.
I only have one suggestion if you ever decide to make improvements.
If you look at the Traditional chinese it gives you a Preferences box that lets you set the size of the
text in the Candidate Window up to Font Size 36.
Since I cannot see very small text (I am getting old) I need a larger text so I can easily choose
the character.
CAN YOU MAKE THAT PREFERENCE OPTION, CANDIDATE WINDOW, 36
IN YOUR IMPUT?

Thanks for your help and attention,

James

can someone please upload a copy of this input again? I just clean installed lion and didn't remember to backup this file. sunny's webpage no longer works. thanks!

YAY! Working in LION too!

I got this to work in Lion OS too! But as per previous post, can someone please upload the latest version ct114.inputplugin? I only have ct112.inputplugin :(

Sorry guys for my late reply.
Here is a working download link:
http://www.sunnyhk.com/downloads/ct1121.inputplugin.zip

Unfortunately I also lost my latest version 1.1.4 so 1.1.2 is the newest one I've got on hand. So if anyone has problem in finding characters, especially if you find character that doesn't exists from this ime, please kindly let me know and I will try to make an update on it.

This ime should simply work on Lion or Mountain Lion by double clicking the ct1121.inputplugin (after unzip)

Enjoy ^_^

Bad news is I've no way to control or create options to the system preference
Good news is Lion has already provided an option to change the font size. So you may simply select Preferences from the menu bar after cantonese input is activated.
