I wish NBC had the balls to put something like BSG or Caprica on Network TV. They might 1) actually catch on and 2) pull NBC from last place in the ratings. What the hell do they have to lose? Dumb. Guessing it's only gonna get worse with Comcast at the helm.

I can’t remember the network, but they had Terminator on and that got canceled. So, obviously sci-fi has issues with staying on regular networks (wasn’t BSG on Fox to begin with?).

It’s all the reality TV shows that are taking over, since it’s so cheap to make them and enough people watch. They make a profit, so what do they care about quality?

Pretty sure BSG started out as a SyFy original. And just for clarification (if needed), NBC's Universal owns the SyFy channel which is why I called them out. CBS tried twice to bring Sci Fi to Network and failed with Jericho. To me, that was much more upsetting than Caprica. Some shows take time to build the audience, and the Networks are never patient enough to let a show build. It's either overnight success or it's canceled. Shame.

And I agree about Reality TV. For them, the profit margin is there, so why do it differently?

I just started watching BSG on the DVD sets and I am almost halfway through. I can't wait to get my hands on the Caprica series.

As much as I enjoyed my brief time with Caprica, BSG was far superior. There hasn't been a show with the vision, action and characters as BSG since it went off the air. I can't wait for something to come along and fill that programming void. I'm sure it'll be awhile, but if it can rival BSG, it'll be worth the wait.

i have to disagree. Caprica was amazing. It sucked that they just ended it and then put the last several shows on one night, which I missed.

The SyFy channel is going downhill, IMO. I can see a day when all they have are reality TV shows. Crap TV.

I think they surpassed "going downhill" a long time ago and are working on reaching rock bottom. The wrestling programming brings them very nearly there.

BSG to me is every big as interesting as Star Trek was to me growing up. It's hard to compare the two since the BSG is more R-rated and violent while Star Trek pretty much took all the possible sci-fi story lines and put them into three seasons. I don't know if Star Trek had any idea how many shows would use their concepts for decades after they went off air during their first run.

BSG came close to developing characters with such strong personality that it didn't matter what the plot was, whether it was to use the great actors in a space show, courtroom drama, or cop show. What's too bad is that BSG wasn't on the major networks for more to see. I think it's as good as any show ever.

Are you referring to "The Sarah Conner Chronicles"? That was on Fox and it was freaking great. The only real sci-fi show out there right now is "Fringe". One of my favorites too! The comic book style show "Hereo's" and Lost were all good. Hereo's went down hill though and rather quick at that.

I need to go back and re-watch the BSG series. I missed way to many episodes to play catch up with it. DVD rentals here I come!
