that's what apple needs more innovative people, throw out the old staff and bring in some good guys with a futuristic vision.

Is this the same Icahn that wanted new Apple management? Is this the same Icahn that wanted Apple to sell bargain-priced hardware at discount chain stores which would have diluted Apple's image?

Not sure how great this news is.

Hopefully he'll take a hand-off approach this time.

Yes, this is the same bozo. Having Carl Icahn making a large investment in AAPL is not a good thing. Having ANY influence in the company is not a good thing.

Having him pump up the stock like he's done today may be good short term, but having the man involved in the company or injecting himself or any of his cohorts into the Board would be disastrous long term. I think Tim Cook and the current board are smart enough to know this guys antics, and I'm hoping they don't allow him to have his hands tarnish Apples focus.

And the likelihood of that is...less than zero.

You asked a question and I answered it. You didn't ask for prognostication on the plausibility of said answer. :) It just is the answer. It's the same thing Dell is trying to do; buy itself off the market.

Your not sure if CARL ICAHN is a good investor?!? Warren is that you?

there are investors who just invest and let the company run as it is and there are who messes up with the management.

Steve never took direction from the investor neither the sales guy.

That does it, I'm switching my favorite investing strategy to buying tons of S&P500. It pays nice dividends and isn't fickle like these single company stocks. I always felt like AAPL was a surefire boom stock from 2008-2010 and was sure to succeed long-term despite having a high calculated risk level, and no, I am not looking back on that with 2013 vision. At this point, it doesn't seem like a good idea to meddle with it.

It seems like a pattern has developed. AAPL always takes a leap in the weeks leading up to a new product release. Then the day after the release AAPL takes a nose dive back to where it was. Let's see if this happens again.

Well glad to read something positive lastly. Sick of all the idiots coming out of the woodwork bad mouthing Apple. Who is it, Samsung or Google paying these people.

All I feel is hate hate hate for Google and Samsung. Feel like beating the crap out of the next Korean I see. relax I wont. Feel like smashing the next android piece of crap i see. This is just sick. Making me feel sick. Might have to lay off the rumors website for a while.

Sorry, but this is really how I feel when I read this column lately.

such a crock that twitter post from a single man can send the price of a stock soaring 5%...another example that investing is just legalized gambling based on emotion and guess-work vs real investment in the economy and based on analysis of company fundamentals. luckily for me, I also have a "significant" portion in apple, "significant" being relative, of course.

Invest in toilet paper, bullets, and bottled water. Store them in a secured bunker.

When the apocalypse happens (either zombie, nuclear, or aliens) you'll be bringing in some serious cash.

Of course it's a long-term strategy :D

what ever that crook says bet the opposite

he's a destroyer of companies

be prepared for disappointing hardware

and a public slow to adopt the new mobile OS

He kinda looks like "the most interesting man in the world", from those commercials.

The price should keep going up leading up to the iPhone 5 event.

Too bad the stock seems to drop once the announcement happens because it didn't live up to the hype of checking off everything on people's wish list. Then goes back up when sales are strong.
Oh, what a cycle.

Stock price and market manipulation at it's finest?

What are you talking about? Carl Icahn has a history of great calls and getting value for shareholders (which is literally the point of a business), and the market reacts to announcements that he thinks something is undervalued. The issues he's raised with Dell's going-private situation have resulted in larger gains to the shareholders than what they would have gotten otherwise.

A Tweet from a guy saying, "I just bought $1Billion of AAPL" is not a "simple twitter post". :)

LOL. It's funny because you immediately said you won't, but didn't say the same for the android device.

Of course it's extremely undervalued, Apple makes billions in profit unlike any other company in the world. Apple made $41B last year, find me a more than two companies that did more. Google only made $10B, Microsoft $21B and Samsung $18B.

You need to go outside and seek help immediately. I'm being serious, your post is pretty indicative of someone who needs help working through some larger issue.

Hey everyone i have a big position at Apple!! It's undervalued so you should buy in too!!! I spoke with Tim Cook today and told him to do a stock buyback!!! You should buy in too!!!

Stock goes up 4.5%... he sure knows how to move the price up just by yelling from the roof tops.

I'm sure there are many smart macrumors folks that will tell us that Apple is doomed and not innovating anymore and that he is wrong

Anyone who knows Icahn's history should be nervous.
He is a corporate raider pure and simple.
He likes control at any cost and will sell an asset at the drop of a dime if he see's a chance for him to profit huge and bail.

He's also tried to screw any company that didn't agree with "his" way of doing business.
TWA was a prime example.
