Carlos Mencia...Funny or not?

Well, I need to get my girlfriend a gift for xmas. She loves comedy, but hasn't really heard of Carlos Mencia. He is doing a few shows close to me, and I was thinking about getting tickets, and taking her to a nice dinner.

What do you think of the guy?
 
Well it really depends. i think he is hilarious, but i dont know if your girlfriend would like it. most of his humor is based on racial jokes, so if she is at all sensitive, then she might think hes a jerk. i'd say watch a show on comedy central and see whatcha think.
 
Well, she likes Jerry Seinfield, she got his Standup DVD, and loves it.

Billy Crystal is doing a show too, you think he would be better? I have never heard the guy, but my parents say he is funny.

Anyone? PleasE!
 
I've never heard of him but I did see "The George Lopez Show" on late late late night TV (about 3am) and he's definitely NOT funny.
 
Well, heres the background on my girlfriend. her family is wealthy, very wealthy. she isn't spoiled, she has nice things, but isnt spoiled. she doesnt wear much jewlery (ever), dresses in normal things (jeans/sweatshirt), etc.

she doesnt want a guy to get her jewelery, because
A) She doesnt wear it
B) its kinda corny
C) if she wanted nice jewlery, she would have it

she likes comedy, loves a good laugh. you think Billy Crystal is a beter choice?
 
hes terrible... hes right up there with dennis leery and colin quinn.... ugh

check out Dane Cook i don't know how old you guys are but his comedy reaches a pretty wide audience id say high school to late 30's. His albums are available on the itunes music store.
 
Carlos is very funny in short doses but I don't know if I could stand a full hour+ of standup A lot of his stuff is racial but he pics on everyone... Billy Crystal was funny in his prime, and may be still funny, but he is getting a little old. Have you see blue collar comedy tour. If not rent it and have a nice night in.

What the heck does 98% of the post have to do with what type of standup someone would like? Your posts sound like someone elses I know. You also started a girlfriend-Christmas-present thread already.....

I wasn't trying to compare it to what kind of comedy she likes. I was just talking about the reasons I am not getting her jewelery, for those that say "get her jewelery"

I think that sums it up. I'm not a fan of him. I got a couple laughs from his show, but it's just too much of the same. I don't think I'd like his standup. I would suggest Mitch Hedberg, but ya kno... RIP
 
While Mencia is racist in his jokes, you have to have a good sense of humor to laugh at him, that and he makes fun of his own people so at least he accepts it.

I find him extremely funny at times, the one thing I hate is how he says Dee Dee Dee TOO many times, he kinda overkills it.
