Here's an update. I have found out how to get the paint (latex) off the floors in all of the other rooms. Isopropyl alcohol. It is very smelly and very flammable so if anybody ever tries this make sure that you don't have any candles burning or anybody near you smoking. Also make sure that you are working in a very well ventilated area. Depending on the color of the paint you will most likely have to mop the floors several times to get the residual pigment from the paint off the surface of the floor. I will report back when all is finished (hopefully by the end of the week).

Here is the floor in all of its glory. A progression of progress. I finally finished this yesterday. Let me know what you guys think. The first picture is before and the last picture is what it looks like now.

Definitely cork flooring, soft, never cold, solid and firm, but spongy, very durable... The benefits as flooring are numerous (also it is a sustainable product as it doesn't kill the tree)

Very nice! I helped my dad with the hardwood in the living room last year.

I really like the look of finished hardwood.

Pergo here.

It's got the cleanliness of Hardwood without the drawbacks.
Underneath, there's an insulating sheet so it never gets too cold. It's also incredibly resistant to just about everything.

I put it in the front room, kitchen and entryway of my old house and after 5 years it still looked new and helped sell the home. So this year, I put it in over here too. The Mac Pro is styling now. (it never looked right on carpet)

BTW, I grew up in a house with hardwood floors with area rugs. I feel Pergo is better.

Have Fun,
Keri

PS. Very nice job on the floor. The room looks like my Grandparents stunning 2-flat did years ago on Laramie & Augusta.

In my house, we have wood, carpet, and stone flooring.

Throughout almost all of the house we have Iroko (aka Kimbala) hardwood with radiant heating and cooling in every room that has the hardwood. The Iroko wood itself ran about $45/sq ft when we bought put it in three years ago. The addition of the radiant heating and cooling system cost another $15/sq ft bringing the total cost to about $60/sq ft.

In our bathrooms we have slate flooring. We don't have square cut tiles, but rather randomly broken slabs. That cost about $30/sq ft. We also have the radiant heating and cooling system in the bathrooms which brought the total cost to about $45/sq ft for each bathroom.

In the home theater we went with carpet because it is a lot better than hardwood or stone acoustically speaking. The carpet in there is fairly short, and cost something like $15/sq ft.

We went with fairly rare wood that from what I understand is now considered endangered, so that really drove the price up. Before the Iroko we had Bamboo flooring, which was nice except for the fact that it scratches really easily (dropping a fork leave permanent marks on it).

To the OP: the refinished flooring looks wonderful. Kudos to you for doing it yourself, everyone in my family would say "screw it, call a contractor and have them do it."
