Well imagine I want to hear a sermon but can’t finish it in one sitting. With a iPhone or Mac they will lose their place if I reboot. With a car CD player the memory remains intact when I turn off my car and start it again. This is very very helpful for bible listening as it’s so long and on many different CDS.
On some car models you can even eject the disc and it will remember where you left off.
If your current dash looks like this, it would require a dash kit, wire harness, and antenna adapter, and an aftermarket head unit could be installed without any modification to the vehicle:
If you have steering wheel controls, there is something additional, but if not, it is a straight forward install. It probably wouldn't cost too much to have someone install it for you if you don't feel comfortable with it.
Yes it has some advantages. However the Garmin GPS has more features. WAZE is good for social networking driving, but it won't sync to the Apple Watch and neither will Google Maps. The problem with phone based GPS apps is that they lack the ability (except Google Maps) to navigate while offline and away from cell coverage. This is not the case with a good Garmin GPS. To conclude I use both Apple Maps because it syncs with my Apple Watch and my Garmin GPS because of the more features and offline coverage.
