I can no longer connect to CarPlay in one vehicle after updating to 17.7, but another is fine. I’m too scared to update to iOS 18 as a result, but this also sucks because I don’t believe I can migrate to my new 16 Pro from a device running 17.7.

This is really not the best rollout year for iOS is it?

Fortunately, I restarted my iPhone after posting this and it has been fine since. No more "device not supported" errors since.

That can often be the solution to oddball cases where things stop working for no apparent reason. Any electronic device can get into a confused state and the old “power it down and restart” trick works surprisingly often. It is often a good practice after a new OS update to restart the device. It seems like some services are not fully ready when a device boots a new OS version for the first time.

My 13 with iOS 18 works intermittently with the “radio” in my Nissan. It frequently hangs on the {accept possible data charges} initial screen. I can either reboot the entire car OR plug in a flash drive with music for several seconds, then plug the iPhone back in, which clears the confusion.

The first iOS 18 public beta was fine, garbage since then.

No issues with Pocket Casts or Spotify, but Apple Music causes the CarPlay to reboot a couple times at the start of each drive. 18.1b4, wireless system

I am having issue with ios18 + usbc/lightning cable. Funny thing is only one side of lighthing side of cable gets connected to charger/macbook. Even after connected, slight touch also disconnects iphone from macbook. Same cable works perfectly fine for airpod pro charging(i.e. both of side charges without issue/no disconnection/charging time normal). I never had this issue till ios17. All of my usb A to lightning cable works for both of side. For my issue must be cable manufacturer issue? but I am sharing what I experienced.

My CarPlay is completely unusable now. It will not connect at all. Is there any way to report this to Apple that will get results or is it just a waste of time to complain? I’m a sales rep and I’m in my car 6 hours at a time so this is a dealbreaker for me. I have a 2022 Mazda and another person I work with also has a newer Mazda and she is also experiencing the same issue. So I’m wondering if this is just an issue with Mazda cars? Doesn’t seem likely it would affect just one brand but who knows?
Do you mean connect via Bluetooth?

CarPlay stopped working on my Mazda 2 after the update. At least via wireless/Bluetooth. Seems to work just fine via cable. But I want the wireless mode back.

Just wanted to post here since I was looking around to see if there is any news on a fix yet, but if any of you are running “Vocal Shortcuts” in accessibility this may be your issue - I added a ChatGPT shortcut - this causes many of the described symptoms, tinny, inconsistent audio connection, intermittent issues connecting with CarPlay, Siri not responding, etc - as soon as I turn off Vocal Shortcuts though… all better. In troubleshooting this all the normal did not work - disabling my VPN, re-pairing, rebooting car and phone, resetting up Siri, different cables, etc - but this has worked perfectly - hope to see a fix soon, will be trying 18.0.1 tonight but not optimistic as this doesn’t seem to be an issue most are aware of.

Hope this helps someone

I have a 2021 Mazda and a 15Pro and have not had a problem, but I use a wireless adapter so I'm not necessarily accessing CarPlay natively. I have not checked to see if wired works... but again, I've been on iOS18 since the early betas and have not had an issue.

I have a Mazda CX-5 and CarPlay with iOS 18. Now everytime I get a call when I am using Maps for navigation, it crashes with a Mobile I/O error and restarts the car infotainment system. And the only solution is to disconnect the phone and reconnect (and even then sometimes the phone needs to be restarted)

I am not impressed with Apple's QA lately ... regretting moving to iOS 18 because just can't use CarPlay for navigation in case I have to receive a call or something ...

I have the same tinny audio issues and no vocal shortcuts set up. I do see on my Feedback Report there are "More than 10" other reports, so at least it's on the radar somewhere. Hope it gets fixed soon.

I’m on the 18.1 PB and wired CarPlay stopped working. In 18 release it was fine. So must be a beta thing.
I’m running 18.1 PB and CarPlay wired is working fine. Haven’t tried wireless.

There are a lot of variables when using CarPlay. it‘s hard to know where to point the finger. I’m using CarPlay with 18.1 and before that with 18.0 on a Mazda CX-5 and no problems with Maps or Overcast or Messages.

I rented a Corolla this week for a couple of days and was surprised by the USB-C ports. I didn't have a Lightning to USB-C cable. CarPlay worked with a cable I borrowed from a friend there. Yesterday I gave the cable back thinking I'd just use Bluetooth. I could NOT connect to the car with Bluetooth. Last night I updated to iOS 18.0.1 and this morning connected via Bluetooth on the first try.

The update didn't mention any Bluetooth or CarPlay fixes but who knows.

I just installed IOS 18 on my iPhone 13 mini. Since this afternoon I have had one instance where Car Play just disconnected.

iPhone 12 same problem - on wireless, bluetooth wouldn't connect. On wired, carplay didn't work. Found it unlikely, people that had the glitch all had cables go bad.

Final solution was to delete the phone from the car and the car from the phone. Restart the entertainment system and phone then re-pair.

Another bizarre update issue - I turned on the app face id unlock for my financial apps. None would unlock. The phone restart, fixed these as well.

Still will not connect unless I delete the phone from my car and repair the device but as soon as I turn the car off it will not pair again. I have a 13 pro max and was going to buy a 16 but now I’m just thinking about getting a Samsung. If you do a search for this problem a lot of people have it but yet still no fix from Apple. Instead of providing me with convenience and features, all I get is irritation and annoyance from my iPhone since this awful update.

My same issues also continue on Beta 6. They’ve got to get this CarPlay stuff figured out!

After installing iOS 18 on my iPhone 15 max pro, the Apple maps app running in Carplay keeps resetting the control head on my 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. Changing cable, removing and reinstalling has not corrected the issue for me. The only things I have not tried yet is restoring the infotainment system to factory defaults and resetting the iPhone. I never had an issue prior to iOS 18. Other apps in Carplay seem to operate OK. My system connects through USB, no wireless CarPlay. There seems to be many iOS 18 and CarPlay issues being reported.
I am having the same issue - iOS18 on a new iphone 15. 2019 Chevrolet Equinox. Did you manage to find a fix for this?

After IOS 18.0.1 update, my USB connection would not work in Genesis vehicle, so no Apple CarPlay. I deleted the Bluetooth connection and now my wired connection works again. I have not reconnected to Bluetooth, because Hyundai, in their infinite wisdom, did engineer Apple CarPlay. But at least I got it working. Not sure if it is Apple (probably), the vehicle (maybe), or the fact that I have a physical SIM and an eSIM on the same phone.

Just chiming in here as well. 11PM on iOS 18.1 worked wired on an aftermarket Pioneer radio. Now on a 16PM iOS 18.1 and wired no longer works.

I have a mini13 with 18.1 and a 2021 Nissan March. After months of frustration, I found that the wire used in my wired connection has become a critical component, so I’m using a genuine Apple cord. I have also found that after I click OK twice on the splash screen and it hangs, unplugging and replugging usually works. It’s really frustrating.

What’s weird is I’ve tried an iPhone with the current version of iOS 16, and one with the current version of 17, and they exhibit the same annoying behavior. It seems that Apple has modified CarPlay—probably through a security fix.
