I have a mini13 with 18.1 and a 2021 Nissan March. After months of frustration, I found that the wire used in my wired connection has become a critical component, so I’m using a genuine Apple cord. I have also found that after I click OK twice on the splash screen and it hangs, unplugging and replugging usually works. It’s really frustrating.

What’s weird is I’ve tried an iPhone with the current version of iOS 16, and one with the current version of 17, and they exhibit the same annoying behavior. It seems that Apple has modified CarPlay—probably through a security fix.
Or it could be something in your car software or the usb plug.

This stuff is really hard to debug because there are multiple components and we don't have logs or other visibility into what each one is doing.

Yes, it’s very hard to debug!

First, I thought it was the lighting end of the cord, then I thought it was the USB end. So I’ve tried it with multiple cables and multiple iPhones. It’s really strange. If I put in a flash drive, it plays normally and then switching to the iPhone, the iPhone connects.

I have no idea how to update the “radio”. It has a screen to update its firmware, and with a flash drive in it, it looks at the drive and says it can’t find the files. The dealer is no help, saying there are no updates, which could actually be true. My wife is getting a new car whenever it comes off the ship, and I’m curious to see if our iPhones have issues with something that’s brand new.

It’s always something.

I had been hesitant to install iOS18 due to this concern. My truck does not have CarPlay; my wife’s 2022 Subaru has wired CarPlay, but she rarely uses it. She went over 6 months without Bluetooth notifications coming through last year/earlier this year. That was eventually resolved with an update to the Subaru head unit.

I finally put 18.1.1 on my 14 Pro last week. They still paired over Bluetooth and CarPlay connected the one time I tested it. I might load 18.1.1 on my wife’s 13 this weekend. I might/should wait until I do more tests with my phone.

iOS 18.2 b4 - Ask Siri to shuffle a playlist, and the whole library is shuffled. Using screen taps, playlists shuffle correctly.
Tapping on album name does nothing (linked to Apple Music (not a subscriber) in beta 3)
Feedback submitted for both.

After installing iOS 18 on my iPhone 15 max pro, the Apple maps app running in Carplay keeps resetting the control head on my 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. Changing cable, removing and reinstalling has not corrected the issue for me. The only things I have not tried yet is restoring the infotainment system to factory defaults and resetting the iPhone. I never had an issue prior to iOS 18. Other apps in Carplay seem to operate OK. My system connects through USB, no wireless CarPlay. There seems to be many iOS 18 and CarPlay issues being reported.
Had exactly the same issue. Today I upgraded to iOS18.2 and YIPPIE!!
All problems solved. Yes. Yes. Yes.
Apple car play is back working: Waze, google maps, WhatsApp, text, phone, Siri etc. all of it works as it used to and as it should. Finally. It’s been two long months… phew.

iOS18.3b3 - tapping the album name for all tracks once again invokes the album's track list.
I hope it stays this time🤞

Just reporting in to say I finally solved my issues in a very unconventional way. I had a longstanding issue with iOS 18.1-18.3 betas on my 16 Pro Max where my aftermarket Pioneer unit would stutter/skip audio and reboot frequently using wireless CarPlay. No issues with Bluetooth or Android Auto via my Pixel 9 XL. And no issues with wired CarPlay. It only started with iOS 18, so I assume they increased the bandwidth used or changed a channel or some such. Something in how the iPhone manages Wi-Fi was causing the head unit to freak out. Every time I thought I fixed it, the problem just kept coming back. Removing the car and repairing, restoring the phone, etc. Nothing was fixing it. The final troubleshooting step: install a wireless adapter dongle into the wired USB port and disable the head unit's wireless capability. Works great now, with less lag and clearer audio. Still not sure what changed in iOS 18, but my old unit just wasn't good enough for it. Just hoping the dongle continues to work in the summer months when I leave it in the car long term.

This is the one I got in case anyone is having a similar headache:

Lots of issues with CarPlay on iOS 18.2 and Mercedes MBUX.
- sound playing out of the phone instead of the car speakers
- unresponsive car display
- unresponsive phone display
- CarPlay not starting at all

All this bugs go away when restarting the iPhone. This combined with Siri getting dumber by the minute, makes this very frustrating. For instance, Dutch Siri cannot navigate to contacts anymore. It’s mind blowing.

Let’s hope iOS 18.4 brings the solution.

18.3.1 and wife's 2025 Suzuki Jimny 5-door -- works flawlessly both wired and wirelessly, except for the newfangled "safety" feature that limits the songs one can access when the car is moving. Dumb.

Still troubles with my 2021 Nissan March. It works/fails without a discernible pattern. Usually works when replugging, however, sometimes the car has to rebooted for it to work.

Can you expand on that? I have access to 100% of my songs and Podcasts while driving. (Every iOS since I started using CarPlay.)

I noticed this in the new car, so I noodled around on the interwebz. It doesn't appear to be an iPhone issue but an issue with the "radio" in new cars, perhaps limited to certain jurisdictions — I dunno.

In any case, when navigating Apple Music using the car's CarPlay interface, most of one's music library is grayed-out when the car is moving. I know that when the car is in PARK that one's entire library is available, and I think that when the car is at a complete stop, that it's available as well.

It's a dumb idea because one can still hold one's iPhone in one's hands and navigate to any song or album. Which is safer, holding one's iPhone in one's hands or tapping on a dashboard screen? (Neither, in all truth.)

Most of the time, I use YouTube Music and it's not blocked in the same way.

If you don’t mind mentioning it, what country do you live in? I’m in the US have have never seen this problem.

What happens if you use Siri to play a song on that grayed out list?

Mexico. The Jimny is sold in 194 countries, but not the USA or Canada.

I never talk to Siri unless she talks to me. Maybe someday she’ll work as expected.
