Part of me wonders if it’s potentially an issue with iOS 17 too?

I have the 14PM and a Ford Ka from ‘15 with USB-A (no CarPlay).

Usually plug it in and whatever music I’ve chosen will start playing - I keep having to use Voice Control on the steering wheel to turn it over to the radio unit media player.

Been through the settings in my car and still doing the same.

2020 Honda Civic. Working great with my wife's iPhone 15 Pro and my iPhone 15PM using an Anker USB C to USB A cable.

I bought these, work fine for my Crosstrek with no USB-C:

Although I am shocked Apple didn't create their own USB A to type C cable. Seems like a huge miss in revenue considering the majority of vehicles out there don't have USB Type C ports.

CarPlay is working fine in my Kia with the 15 Pro Max. I bought this inexpensive cable from Amazon. It also worked fine with another generic USB-A > USB-C I had lying around. So no complaints here.

We bought adaptors, so you can use any USB-C cable. Seems to make more sense than a specialty cable only suitable for one thing only.

What good is a standard port if the cables have no standards and it’s a crapshoot from the user’s perspective?

Maybe bureaucrats should stick to just wasting other people’s money.
Ah yes, the fantasy world where you can have more standards but less bureaucracy.

Some questionable USB-A to C cables I had did not work, but my limited understanding is that there are different levels of USB-C cable that all look identical but have support for different features like charge only, charge + data and then 4k video, etc. So I just bought a 4 pack of super cheap USB-A to C adapters and used an Apple USB-C cable. A little annoying, but I can't blame Apple for all the crappy USB cables out there and the USB-C spec that has identical looking cables with different features and there is no way to tell what you have without testing it.

Yet another possible USB-C problem? Shocker! Seems like this forced change is bringing more problems than it's worth!
The problem is not the forced change, the problem is the lack of a true USB standard. The tech industry and the agencies who set standards need to get their act together because this is only getting worse.

I've been using a random Razer USB A-to-C cable that I previously used with Android Auto on my Galaxy S21, no issues with the iPhone 15 and CarPlay. I wonder how many of the reports are coming from people trying power-only cables (which in fairness are usually not labelled as such).
Exactly. There is no way to know what features a USB-C cable supports without testing it. This is not Apple's fault and maybe explains part of the reason they haven't adopted it until now. Pretty sure there are not lightning cables that only charge, but don't pass data..

I'm no fan of lightning, but I'm getting a minor appreciation of why Apple wanted to be able to certify every lightning cable now...

I know some have said random cables have worked etc. However, I have used two different Apple cables (one being the one that came with the phone) along with Anker and Samsung and none of them work. Its a 50/50 shot if it will function when I plug it in. I dont think it has squat to do with cables unless Apple's own suck too.

It’s the cables and it’s not new to usb-c. I’ve had my share of ****** third party usb-a to lightning cables in the past that often flaked out, lost connection spontaneously or didn’t work at all. I have a bag of usb-a to usb-c cables that I’ve accummulated over the years and a couple don’t work with CarPlay in my car.

Get decent cables (not charging only versions) and problem likely solved.

Ugh i hope it works on my 2021 Ford (on vacation right now so I have yet to try) but does not sound promising. The car already does not wireless charge anything above iPhone 11 due to the MagSafe magnet interrupting the charging process and the car is fairly new!

I use a wireless Carlinkit 3.0 dongle for my car that does not have wireless CarPlay.

I use an Insignia USB-A to USB-C cable and it works fine (not sure if Insignia is a good brand or not).

Thanks will try on gf's 15 Plus. We got an Anker usb-c to usb-a and didn't pair perfectly with Mazda CX3.

Insignia is readily available at our local Best Buy. Curiously, rebooting the phone made it work when it didn't initially after having the ANker fail (which did work up until a point).
