Anyone have a problem with using CarPlay to work on their X?? My iPhone 7 works flawlessly but the X will only work for 2-3 mins at a stretch then disconnect, then I’d have to unplug and plug in my phone again.

For all intents and purposes, both phones are on 11.2.5 and clones of each other. My X is a restore of my 7 and I’m getting rid of my 7 soon so I can’t use it in my car much longer.

It sounds like there may be a (minor/intermittent) short in the cable or Lightning plug (male or female). Troubleshooting: 1) Change cable in car and try. 2) Plug X into iTunes (using different cable than in car) and move X around and see if it stays connected.

Next check to see if your infotainment system needs or has an update pending.

FYI: My X connects fine.

I've tried many cables and all of them don't work. Genuine Apple cables, MFi cables and non-certified cables, they all don't work. BTW, I use a non-certified cable with my 7+ and it works without a hitch. Other things I've tried include a full restore of my X which didn't help one bit either.

Also, this is a new car which I just collected 1 week ago. So the infotainment software is all updated.

Anyway, my case has been escalated to Apple's engineering team so while we wait for a solution from them, I'm open to other suggestions from everyone here.

Wouldn't be a Volkswagen by any chance?

I ask because my 2016 Golf bugged out late last year & the infotainment system unit needed to be replaced. Leading up to it were an increasing number of times my iPhone wasn't detected &, like you, would disconnect after connecting.

Even now I see the odd bug where connection fails, but restarting the phone fixed it the last couple of times this happened...

When it comes to CarPlay, it can be either IOS or the cars infotainment software that may need updating, unless it's major, then hardware becomes a possibility.

Does the X work on your Golf??

My car is a 2018 Opel Insignia.

Strange thing is, it works perfectly on my 7+ with the exact same settings. So right now, the only thing as you mentioned would be lack of updates on iOS or on the infotainment system.

I'm testing an even older 6+ on this car now and it definitely works properly too!

Ah sorry, mine's a 6s. I was going for the VW being the common denominator as oppose to the phone, since I've heard a few owners having issues with CarPlay..

Weird. I just bought a knockoff cable that costs $7 and plugged it into the car and now it works flawlessly. Strange...

Still waiting for Apple to call on me with their observations...

CarPlay is broken for me too. Car is a 2018 Audi. My iPhone 7 used to work fine. Spent some time at the dealer with the service manager and we tested multiple iPhones (7+, and 8, and my X). Everything is fine on iOS 11.0 it seems. Only with the updates since then have issues arisen. The 8 and X running 11.2.5 had the same problem. Whenever the car proximity sensors / side sensors or parking assist go on, CarPlay totally disconnects until you physically unplug and re-plug the USB cord. This didn't happen on the phone running 11.0. Using a genuine Apple lightning to USB cable.

Not optimistic this will be addressed in 11.3. CarPlay is totally unusable for me. I've bought a Pixel 2 just to use Android Auto because of this, works perfectly.

Hi. I have the same issue with my new Holden Commodore (same as a Opel Insignia). Did you get a reply from Apple Engineering team? I’m using a X as well.

Hi,
In order to use CarPlay on iPhone, including iPhone X, you must activate firstly Siri on your phone.
After this when you will connect the cable to your car, with the engine running, and to your iPhone, will appear confirmation to connect to CarPlay.

7 Plus with a 2016 Honda Civic. CarPlay used to work fine, but then it went to crap somewhere inbetween the last 2 iOS updates.

- Mic dropping out during phone calls.

- Audio transfering from car audio to speaker phone when using the right-turn signal.

- And I never liked how Music random music tracks would automatically start playing when I connect the phone.
