No normal person can do that, or have access to the chips. Actual Apple repair centers don’t have access to chips for repairs. The average person will never be able to get the chips, never mind the process of doing the upgrade (or necessary equipment to do it).
This. I made the mistake of buying a 1tb iPad Pro but literally no one would touch but apple when it was broken and at the time apple stores in my city were closed and when I had problems when they were open they have no choice but to mail it in which takes longer than fixing normal products. With that said Apple’s express replacement‘s program that witholds the amount of the device in your bank is a huge setback in my book to an extent, the charge doesn’t go away after a week of receiving it.

This relates to the M1 chip because it just bottle necks it to Apple only which at the moment don’t swap or fix your item at the store with apple care Considering their internal tests show otherwise.

I have Applecare + but I also subscribe to Asurion Home Plus(which are the ultimate electronic insurance ever!)

So it’s already $100 more “because mini LEDs”, now it’s $70 more for Cellular?!

lolololololol

No wonder they’re subsidizing. They want someone to actually buy them.

can absolutely guarantee these will sell. i have no idea what cell in your brain is responsible for this comment, but nothing points to any major discontent in the consumer base towards these. there are typical things people dont like (i'm for one not a big fan that there are nonconfigurable ram options that require buying higher storage for more ram) but no indication people need encouragement "AKSHUJALLY BuY1nG Th3m!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Do you think that is a good trade value?

it's probably a fine trade in value for someone wanting a company to handle the legwork of reselling them or reclaiming for parts and recycling.

it's like selling a car back to a dealership or trading in for another. you'll virtually always gain a better price through private sale.

The Best Bang for your BUCK is the $650 M1 Mac mini.
you've already proven by the Chinese that you can upgrade the RAM and disk size.
Better M1 chip than the iPad and iMac.
My God they even rip you off on the iMac and come out with a crippled M1 chip that has only 7 GPU cores enabled instead of 8.

The $650 M1 Mac mini is the STEAL here.
On paper it might be a steal but the Mac Mini comes without a solid good quality screen, webcam, the new speakers shown, “studio quality” mics, can’t remember if it has 2 or 4 USBC/TB4, etc. Nothing wrong with that, I have been a Mac Mini form factor fan and are amazing build/render machines (haven’t tried the M1s though) but in their boxes there’s only the Mac Mini and the power cord... the iMac got that plus magic keyboard, mouse, embedded 4.5K screen plus all the aforementioned UX enhancements shown in the presentation, I think that adds up quickly to the price if it were to add all of those things separately (some of them are downright impossible in the same way).

Granted, it is still an M1 and was expecting for real more like M1X, guess that will come for the 27”+ iMacs.

The iPad though, I was blown away by it having also an M1, my favorite device just got jaw dropping more performance, massive amounts of ram for it and XDR quality display... count me in. Again, seeing it as a whole, can’t grab a Mac mini from the table to the couch and dribble with a pencil on it.

...my use case mileages though.

To be honest, with level and power capabilities in these new iPad Pro's, its really for a different demographic. I could afford it, but I am not going take advantage of it, they really are for creatives. I could buy it, but, I just feel like they are overkill for what I do, which is comment on Macrumors and watch YouTube and managing my budget in Excel.

I really wish there was a 12.9 inch model of the Air. That would be perfect for me.

It's very telling when AT&T gives an outright price reduction, Verizon gives a big gift card (most likely after some time and subject to clawback), while the most dishonest US carrier of them all T-Mobile has a reverse 2-year contract bill credits scam for suckers.
T-Mobile is a $200 gift card.

I think it quite decent, considering Apple trade in value is usually not great. It seems like they are taking value off before tax as well so there’s additional savings on tax. If that’s the case it’s close to 500.

Hey, you’re right.

Not sure what the Chinese have to do with this...

But regarding the Mac Mini, if already have a Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad, and a couple of monitors, it’s a great deal compared to the new iMacs.

If they offered By one get ones then I might consider it. That’s how they get people in with the phones so why not.

I think he means that in China they already figured out how to upgrade ram and ssd by desoldering the chips

They... rip you off... by clearly specifying the specs of the chip? Why would they have to "come out" with a chip they were already using on the low end MacBook Air?

Next you'll say they're ripping you off for the display only being 24 inches instead of 27, like they swapped it out right before it got to your door

I’m trading in my 2018 12.9” 256gb cellular iPad Pro for the latest version. I don’t remember what the exact trade-in value was, something in the $400’s I think. That means I invested ~$900 for 2.5 years of daily use (work and play), or approximately $1 a day, not counting the cost of electricity. Seems perfectly reasonable, and I assume the same will be true for the newest version.

What are the best cheapest data plans for like 1-2GB a month of usage?
When I access my carrier plan options right now (in settings on my LTE iPad), there is a Tmobile prepaid $10+tax per month option for 2GB per month. I imagine with taxes that would really be more like $13-16. I've tried to understand the comparative options on the Verizon and AT&T websites, and that seems easily the best for budget usage. Especially since it looks completely independent of your regular carrier bill.

The plan I actually pay for as an AT&T customer is "$10/mo" (~$14/mo with tax) to add my iPad to my shared family data plan. So about the same as that standalone tmo plan but instead of 2GB/mo it just pulls from the same shared 30GB/mo as my family's iPhones.

But man that $200 cellular fee is steep for useless 5G. I'm in a suburb of a major city (Austin, TX), and my LTE devices often struggle to reach 3Mb/s download speeds. Apple wants me to pay for 5G when I'm still waiting on LTE speeds to roll out?
