I subscribe to Carrot because they have lots of Apple Watch complications. The app also integrates well with live activities/Dynamic Island.
It's expensive, but the developer is clearly working very hard for the money.
They do. I've learned that in the time I've turned off Carrot (FWIW, I resubscribed this morning. I just like Carrot moreSpeaking of which, it's nuts that the built in weather app does not do this.
Depending on your settings, it's definitely not for kids. lol. You can make it super vulgar if you want.So a weather app…for kids

The built in weather app uses Live Activities/Dynamic Island? I have never seen this and now I'm wondering what I haven't enabled to make this work. They do. I've learned that in the time I've turned off Carrot (FWIW, I resubscribed this morning. I just like Carrot more)
This article is literally about a major update to the app.I’ve also come to realize that more apps that have subscription based fees, tend to have developers less active in trying to refine their product being sold. Maybe that’s just me.
I guess you don’t read other people posts or the FAQ before you post…….Why is anyone paying a subscription for this app? It uses free weather data from NOAA and then charges money for it
Said it may not happen. I am like you though patiently hoping, don’t like using iPad apps on macOSStill waiting for that macOS app redesign . . .
This was originally why I cancelled my CARROT subscription. I think I'm going to go back to it, however.Still waiting for that macOS app redesign . . .
I'm assuming it's just like Carrot in that you have to open the app to trigger a Live Activity. The built in weather app uses Live Activities/Dynamic Island? I have never seen this and now I'm wondering what I haven't enabled to make this work.

What weather data sources does CARROT use?
By default, CARROT's forecasts are powered by Foreca, one of the world’s most accurate weather services.
Premium Club members can also use Apple Weather, AccuWeather, Tomorrow.io, OpenWeather, or AerisWeather as alternate data sources. Region-specific sources are available as well: Environment Canada in Canada, Deutscher Wetterdienst in Germany, MeteoFrance in France, MET Norway in Norway, and WillyWeather in Australia.
Subscribers can also hook into data pulled from personal weather stations right in their backyard. WeatherFlow/Tempest and Netatmo stations are directly supported, while any station that connects to PWSweather can be displayed in CARROT as well.
So a weather app…for kids
I mean, yeah. One shut down a year ago.Doesn’t compete to Dark Sky.
I’ve had Carrot on my phone since 2016 and I only pay £3.49 a year…maybe they don’t do the sub I’m on anymore.I understand developers need to earn a living. But charging $20-$70 a year when you have a perfectly fine weather app built into the iPhone is a big ask.
It’s not like they’re deploying their own weather instruments and using real live data scientists to create a neat yet effective interface on how weather data is presented.Maybe that's just you, but it's definitely not the case. This whole post is about major updates to the app. Plus the weather data that they get is not all free. This is one of the few subscription plans that makes complete sense to me.
Same 👍🏻I'm grandfathered into an old plan and I applaud the dev for letting people grandfather in that have paid all this time. The cost is for the cost of the APIs from the various weather sources. They pretty much all charge now.
