Cars sucked.

Releasing a sequel to that P.O.S. is a bit like Disney releasing Pocahontas 2: Pocahontas Harder

And I doubt anything has changed at Pixar since Disney purchased them. In fact, I have always presumed that Disney would just tell Pixar to continue what it's doing, in order to improve Disney's bottom line. ;)

I really enjoyed the first Cars and my kids are crazy over it. We saw Cars 2 this past weekend and they loved it as well. I thought it was fun and entertaining, which is how I measure movies... did it entertain me and did I enjoy the experience of seeing it.

Like some have said above, it's a cartoon aimed primarily at children for the purpose of fun and selling product. Goodness, some are acting like every movie is a failure if it doesn't contain complex character development and universal moral themes. C'mon people, sometimes something fun is just that, fun. Cars is simple like going bowling or playing putt putt. Just have fun with your kids or someone else's, don't overanalyze it. :)

I agree. I just can't see where all of the hate comes in. I have 4 year old twins and they just loved the movie. Did they have any idea what was going on with the storyline? Not really...The cars could have driven around in circles and they would have loved it. I've never been a big fan of cartoons, and I certainly wouldn't have gone if not for the kids...but clearly the purpose is to entertain and sell tons and tons of merchandise. Which it did and will.

For those giving bad reviews, did you go with children? Because the movie theater I was in was filled with families, and all of the kids loved it. There was a lot of clapping at the end. And the kids definitely left happy.

Looks like the movie exceed expectations on how well it did at the box office. Looks like Disney has a winner on their hands.

The actual opening weekend box office results came out this afternoon and it was even worse than expected at only $66,135,507 - - compare this to last year's Pixar feature which had an opening weekend of over $110m.

I would tend to agree except for Toy Story 3, Wall-e, Monsters Inc. and Up! were very good.

I would also out the The Incredibles! That is my favorite one of the bunch. I would put TS3 a close second tied with Up. Up actually has one of the sadest moments of any of the pixar films.

P.S. Forgot about Monsters Inc.. another great pixar film.

I'm glad Mater was the central focus in Cars 2. Just can't get enough of Larry the Cable Guy! Of all the characters, Mater's my favorite. Sure, others can disagree with me all they want but I liked Cars 2, I found it funny. I don't care much for story depth, I just like to sit down, laugh, and be entertained.

It was probably one of Pixar's worst (although I haven't seen Wall-E), but it was still good. I think they definitely got off-topic with all the spying and what-not, and it wasn't quite like the original Cars. Cars 2 seemed to be more of an action movie, versus a family movie.

Good. Teaches Disney to back the F off from meddling in Pixar affairs.

I didn't like it nearly as much as the first. It seemed very disconnected and the focus on Mater was not what I wanted. Mater is good for comic relief at points, but is not good as the focus of the movie. The James Bond plotline was kind of stupid, but overall not a terrible movie. Kids will love it, just doesn't have much appeal to adults like other Pixar movies sometimes do. (Toy Story series for example)

I enjoyed it, more than I thought I would after reading all the hate for it. I thought it was much better than Up, and worlds away better than WALL-E.

I absolutely loved the first Cars movie, it was probably my favorite of all of Pixar's offerings. This one didn't quite measure up, but I didn't expect it to. The themes in the first movie (nostalgia for old road trips and the two generations of race cars earning each others' respect) made it a much deeper and more meaningful movie to me.

Cars 2 was good for some laughs and for some entertainment, with a hint of an environmentalist message. We'll probably buy it when it comes out on DVD/B-R.

FWIW I watched it a week or two ago and would say it comes in at #10 displacing Monsters Inc. in my Pixar list.

I thought it was too violent for a Pixar movie although, as a fan of spy movies, I enjoyed those parts of the movie.

Don't get me wrong, I even really like A Bug's Life. Those two plus Cars 2 just don't grab me in as many levels as the other Pixar movies.

My top 5 are among my 100 favorite movies of all time, but the bottom three are just great flicks to have on in the background.

Heresy, I know, but I prefer How to Train Your Dragon over MI as an overall movie.

Is HTYD really that good? I've never seen it. Wait, isn't HTYD DreamWorks?
