looks like Bugs Bunny and group got genetically engineered with batman and anime figures. i can't imagine what kind of personalities they'll have. definitely, the original personalities won't work for what i see.

That is very sad to change such a time tested set of cartoon characters. Loonatics, would say that the word evil is very fitting. It would certainly upset the creators.

You know, that was the first thing I thought when I saw that bloody awful trailer. It's got that stupid anime-esque lazy as-few-frames-as-we-can animation, along with secondhand backdrops from "Batman of the future".

God, I'm embarrased to even know the title of that abortion.

20X6!!!!!!!!

Honestly, I don't think this concept is any better or worse than Animaniacs was. And I don't think anyone seriously believes that Animaniacs diluted the original "classic" characters.
That's because Animaniacs created totally new characters without trying to ripoff beloved classics. With Tiny Toons you might have a point, though.

What I don't understand is why they'd want to have a team of "superheroes" called the Loonatics, and based on wacky characters of the past. I didn't think wacky was a desirabled trait in a superhero? Why didn't they just create an all new cast? Have they gotten that lazy? Nevermind, just answered my own question - they want established names because people are more likely to watch, thus gaining them more advertising revenue. Never mind that they're destroying the reputations of the original characters and the studio in the process. Short-term profit-minded thinking at its finest.

This is a brilliant idea. While we're at it, let's replace Batman and kill Superman. Oh, they tried that already? It didn't go very well? Hmmm. So, it's not a good idea to mess with cultural icons? And Time Warner owns DC Comics who made these mistakes in the past? Hmmmm.

Well, I actually arther enjoyed the death of superman comic books. Didn't seem like a big deal since by the end he wasn't really dead anyway.

I'm no comic book guy at all, so I don't knowe anything about when they replaced batman, but in the animated batman series, the batman beyond series was really good I though, as good or better than the first animated series. In fact,t eh worst batman animated series was when they tried to make it look all anime style. Which I guess is kind fo what they've done with the new looney toons.

My point is, you can reinterpret something in an intersesting way, and relaly expand on the original, or you can just end up making crap.

I think the new looney tunes will be the later category. It looks awful. Kind of feels like a "poochy the dog" situation to me. Its mad extreme and in your face, and all that nonsense.

I could be really, really wrong, but I don't think they really intended for Superman to return (at least as he was before) when they first came up with the idea.

As for Batman, he got his back broken and picked someone else to be Batman in the comics. Now, again I could be wrong but I think they weren't intending to have Bruce return to being Batman.

Anyway if I'm wrong about both points then please disregard what I said. What I was getting at though is that it seemed they were fixing what wasn't broken and it blew up in their faces. I feel this will be the same.

As far as Batman Beyond, that was a great series. Why they killed it is "Beyond" me. I don't see Mr. McGinnis as the same thing since he was never a replacement for the original. He was just a successor like the Tiny Toons that were mentioned in another post. Heck both series included the predecessors.

Boardroom conversation at WB:

Accountant 1: "hey, what do kids like?"

Accountant 2: "Ohhh! I know! Laser vision and martial arts!!"

Lawyer 1: "We should just make Bugs Bunny into a laser vision-ninja."

Lawyer 2: "Excellent idea."

What a crock of B$.

Wow, I think that summed up how this happened pretty much perfectly. WB was looking for a "hip" new action series to leech back viewers from some of the successful stuff that's showing on Cartoon Network, and figured why not just re-hash some old standbys to do it.

Actually, I'm not entirely averse to the concept of reinvisioning old characters as long as you don't directly mess with the originals (which this doesn't do, since it's apparently a very specific spin-off series), but it still seems like a terminally stupid idea.

Why even bother basing these hip new action "stars" off of Bugs and friends? It's just pointless.

Oh, and although anime may have reintroduced the concept of telling a serious action-oriented story through animation, it's hardly a new idea since US comics and such spin-offs as the original animated Superman have been doing that since before the anime style even existed. The sad part is all the big-studio productions that are trying to "do" anime and failing miserably to be either cool or appealing. Disney adapted the style and did ok with Atlantis, but that's about the extent of the mainstream successes.

What's next? Winnie the Pooh wielding some mace of death? Mickey Mouse firing some laser beams from his eyes? Putting them together in a fight-to-death cage match?

some things dont need to be imporved...

I don't think there really was any room for improvent to begin with. First off, with out the voice of Mel Blanc, its not ever going to be the same.

I think the real proof, though, will be in the animation. Unless they go back to doing it all by hand, its going to look and feel nothing like the original. I'll be very interested in seeing this - I just bought the Looney Tunes Golden Edition 2 of DVD, 60 more classic cartoons. You just can't get any better than that.

Wow. That looks utterly craptacular.

Aside from "I, Robot" (the movie) I've never seen such a blatant use of established names/characters to sell a generic, uninspired idea.

I think what's so stupid is that they think mixing two successful genres together will make a "super-genre." The problem is that the genres in question are like oil and water. Having a Looney Toons version of Super Friends is as stupid as having a Super Friends version of Looney Toons.

I'm not sure which would be more painful to watch. Bugs (sorry, Buzz) Bunny w/his laser vision and kung-fu action, or Batman reaching off-screen to grab a comically over-sized "Acme" mallet and hammer Mr. Freeze into the floor like a nail. Or maybe Superman prancing after Lois Lane<sp?> like Peppi Le Pew.

Lawyer 1: But how can we make the violence acceptable to oversensitive parents?

Accountant 2: *&@! the parents.

Lawyer 2: No, no, he's right. We don't want to deal with thousands of complaint letters each week.

Accountant 1: I know - we could make them all SUPER HEROES who have to save the world!!!

Lawyer 2: Whoo-hoo!

My family got rid of cable tv a few months ago... between "reality tv" and boring rehashed shows, American television is just a complete waste of time these days.

Even much of the news has become a vehicle to instill fear and doubt into people - for the sake of getting ratings (the last time I had the news on, one of the feature stories was something ridiculous about how dangerous fingernail polish can be since a random spark can set it on fire... come on).

Now I have two tv sets, one used for watching the occasional DVD and another that just collects dust.

This cartoon just looks like more of the same.
