My cat walks on a leash outside and can sit, liedown and shake paw on command (most of the time).

He will also drag his brush to me when he wants to be groomed. and very rarely will carry his empty bowl to my computer desk and whack my ankles with it to let me know he is hungry.

He also lies on my messed up ankle when it hurts and I can use his warm tummy as a foot rest then. He is a big cat 25lbs and the size of a Cocker Spaniel.

my cat plays fetch all the time

and he can walk on a leash

and he can shake a paw

one time i was at a state park and i saw a man out walking his cat on a leash. me and my girlfriend (a big-time cat lover) were on the ground laughing. i don't know why, i guess we've never seen a cat on a leash. it was just funny looking.

also, my family used to have a black cat with white paws....called him boots. my brother was very young at the time, like between 5 - 8 or something, and loved cats then. boots was the only pet we had then. one day my brother decided to time him to the doorknob in our garage. when i came in, i let the cat go, he ran and never came back. there was blood on the rope. we think he still lives in the woods around here

I used to have a cat, Rocky, who was the most affectionate cats we've ever had, and very smart.

He used to play tag and all that, as well as hide and seek. His favorite thing to do was try and slip under the cracks of doors (when he was a kitten, there was one door in the downstairs bathroom that gave him enough room to slip his head under and peek at his while we were in there). It became his thing to run to the bathroom as soon as you went in and stick all his feet under and his nose.

He was the most trusting cat I've ever had, with me only though (he always was my cat, though he liked the rest of the family, he bonded with me). I could pick him up, hold him upside down over my head and he would like there limp, head hanging down, looking calm. Until he got too big, he would sit on my shoulder all day and let me carry him around the house all day like that.

He was also really friendly with other animals near our house (we had a little woods behind us). We used to have a fox he'd play with in the back yard all the time, and deer. In fact, the deer came so acquainted with us that one of them even had her twin deer babies in our yard. For the next couple years it was very Bambi, since we could look outside and see a foal (is that a baby deer?) curled up and asleep in the sun on our grass.

He died when he was 4, and we still don't know of what (we're thinking cancer). I was away at a school program for 6 weeks, and my parents had come to visit me that day (it was a few hours away). When they got home, they saw he was having trouble breathing and took him to the vet. They found fluid on his lungs. They spent the next 48 hours between the emergency animal clinic and home, tapping his lungs and doing everything to get him breathing fine. Nothing really worked, but my parents did get to take him home for a few hours every now and then.....the program wouldn't let me leave without forfeiting my entire spot (and it was a big scholarship to be going there), and at the time we didn't know he was going to die. He died that night in my dad's arms. I remember getting a letter the next day from my mom that she mailed before he got sick, and it said "Rocky misses you, but he's the picture of health, hyper as usual and running all over the house with his ball."

Anyways, I want another cat, badly!!!

Our first cat, Diogenes, would play fetch with balls of aluminum foil, which for reasons we never understood, were the only toys he actually liked. He'd drop them in your lap, and head-butt you relentlessly if you tried to ignore him. This was the only cat I've ever seen who tried to talk. You could say words to him and he'd alter his meow to imitate. No this wasn't our imaginations at work -- I tried him on lots of sounds and he tried to repeat most of them. What a great cat.

One of our current cats, Gracie, used to like to play fetch with those plastic-cover wire wraps. She's since lost interest in that game. Both she and her brother George (get it?) like to watch TV. Nature shows mainly, but they also enjoy baseball.

Awww, you totally should! They're amazing little guys! I can't imagine how I got by without my Iagio. I even forgive him for pulling on the quilting stitches on my chaise longue.

I would absolutely love to. But, I'm in college in NYC and my parents work constantly (they want to get a cat so much, this is the first time we've never had at least one cat at home) and know it wouldn't be fair to get a cat they couldn't give enough attention to (it would be home alone all day every day).

But, as soon as I am out of the dorm and in a good place, I am getting a kitten.

Put a piece of paper on the floor... and the cat will invariably sit on it. What's with that? :D

My cat Tyrone will play fetch as well. And yes, he enjoys the rings off milk containers as well. He also has taken to requesting his five minute back rub when it is time for me to go to bed. Every night, without fail.

Other peoples cats have reminded me of other things my two kittens do.

The girl will come and pretty much sit on my face and meow/purr when she gets hungry. Unfortunately this usually happens at 4am.

The boy likes to head-butt too. He usually does it right when he wakes up and likes being cuddled.

They also LOVE human food, and beg whenever my girlfriend and I are eating.

I also have a video of them in the sink together. It seems like almost all cats love laying in the sink.

(Richie (the boy) is the white one. Margot is the gray one).

My cat will drool when he's happy. I've never seen a cat do this before. He was a stray that we took in. Initially we were a little concerned that he may have had rabies until we had him checked out by a vet.

How do you know he's happy? Sometimes I wonder if my cat is excited or just agitated.

My cat loves it when I ball up a piece of paper. The crumpling sound immediately catches his attention, and he looks at me until I throw it to him. Actual play time varies; sometimes a few swipes, other times, he'll scoot it around the room for several minutes.

Another thing: He prefers to drink from the sink faucet. It's fun to watch, especially when he gets a bit of water in his nose, but I had to stop letting him do it. It got to the point that he was waking me up at 3:30 a.m. to turn on the sink for him.

Duff-Man says...my two cats are very well trained and respond to me in many ways. If I call them and say "nap" they run upstairs and jump on the bed, and they are always bringing their fave toy of the moment to me so I will throw it for them to chase....oh yeah!

Well, look who rears his super-hero head! How's it going Duff-Man? :)

Duff-Man says...quite well mostly, thanks. very busy though as I am splitting my time between two places. hopefully I will be able to hang out here a bit more frequently than I have been though...cheers!....oh yeah!

Well you're certainly missed here!

You're in Albuquerque, for one of those two places, Duff? How do you like it? I'm actually applying (among many, many other places...le sigh) to the University of New Mexico for an internship program there....

Oh this thread is great! I love hearing cute cat stories! And I tried to get mine to walk on a leash but I have learned a better way to get my cat to walk down the sidewalk with me now....I carry her BRUSH and as long as she sees me holding her brush, she will follow me anywhere I go! :)

Duff-Man says....I really like Abq a lot and New Mexico in general. There is such a varied landscape there - from the desert to the mountains and the forests. I find the city is a comfortable size and it is quite easy to get around there. I suppose the complaints for some might be the lack of major league sports teams and many of the music tours don't pass through (though many do as well) but overall it is one of the better places I've seen in the USA.

I am up in Victoria at the moment working away...I will be back down there shortly though, in time for Balloon Fiesta week which looks like a lot of fun.....oh yeah!

My cats refuse to walk on a leash. I've tried putting an old leash on them once, and they thrashed around until I took it off. They do plenty of other cute things though, so I'm okay with them not liking the leash.

My cat used to love to walk on a leash when he was young. One of our neighbors shot him with a pellet gun/BB gun one day, and he became skittish in public after that and stopped liking it. He was fine at home with us, but he hated strangers and loud noises.

oy! i missed this thread...so i'll bring it back.

regarding the leash thing, neither of our cats will walk with a harness on. they'll just sort of lie there, hunkered down, looking agitated. it's actually quite funny.

Klementine
- grooms my husband and i whenever she's able...and quite thoroughly, to boot
- waits until i get off the couch or leave the dinner table, then jumps on my husband's lap and lays her arm up over his chest...and she won't let me touch him :)

Esmarelda

- has an elaborate ritual with me in the mornings. she waits outside the door until my alarm goes off...when i hit the snooze button, she meows until i let her in. she closes the door to keep Klem out. she lays next to me on the bed until the alarm goes off again, at which point she gets up, stretches, and meows at me until i get out of bed. she leads me to the bathroom, where she stands up and puts her paws on my leg while i'm....going...and then she's done. it's the cutest thing ever, and she even does it for my friend when she stays the night.
- knows how to turn the lights on and off
- she also figured out how to turn on the laptop
- also, she plays fetch and does the whole toys-on-the-bed thing when we're not there to actually play fetch with her.

she's so smart...i wonder if i could teach her to use the people potty. :p
