In reality my cat is the real loser from this app. He no longer can ‘Meowgle‘ this post!

I may not be too bright, but I think I would just close my laptop if there was risk for a cat on it. Heck, I tend to close my laptop simply because I stepped away for a moment.
Then your cat would step on the lid or sit on it and breaker your screen.

When modern society create a problem to make you spend money on a "new" solution.
  • Just close your lid
  • Just get a dog
  • Just get a free app that's lock the keyboard
  • Just throw your cat out the window
  • Just give your cat away
  • Just don't get a cat
  • Just don't buy a computer
  • Just don't. DON'T !

Just use a Hot Corner swipe for your cursor. I use the bottom left, to activate screensaver and set screensaver to automatically lock. Easy swipe when the cat approacheth. Then you can set other chained events like silence notifications when locked, etc.

Use the tools you have, people. Stop adding crutches, like that “one favorite app” you just love … until it stops being maintained, or an upgrade torches it.. then you’re dead in the water. If your entire workflow and operation depends on ThatOneThing, then you built yourself a ball and chain. Evaluate carefully.

My favorite is those folks with 12 IMAX displays in their “sweet office setup”. As soon as they move to another location…boom! They’re a fish out of water. Or some update comes along and melts their USB controller and half the bus dies and they spend 4 days “getting it back”, meanwhile they have zero functionality. Hah! Sucks to be you…

It’s ok.. everyone will come out of the woodwork here to vote this down and make excuses.. “it’s been fine ever since OS FooVersion”, or “I never had those problems” (yet), or “I only use compatible devices” (uh huh), etc. go ahead.

I was lucky enough to have a cat who didn’t like to jump on desks and tables when people were using them, he would only jump on your lap when invited to do so or when he knew you were okay with it

I miss him 💔
My cat growing up used to sprawl out on my desk next to me while I did homework or gamed and just purr, occasionally nudging me for pets. He surprisingly never walked on my keyboard, he just wanted to chill near me. He was the best cat, almost 20 years since he passed and I still miss that furball

If you have a Mac and a cat, you've probably run into a situation where your cat sits on your computer keyboard. Whether it's because Macs are warm or because they want to distract you from the screen absorbing all of your attention, laptops tend to attract cats.

A new Mac app called Cats Lock adds cat-proofing that keeps your cat from doing damage to whatever you're working on when it gets on your keyboard, and it can even be set to shoo the cat off.

You can click to turn on Cats Lock from the menu bar or use a quick keyboard shortcut, and it prevents cats from being able to activate the keys. Cats can be particularly good at finding odd keyboard shortcuts you never knew existed and making changes that are annoying to undo, so Cats Lock is useful for preventing that. It also has an option to cut sound, so there's no more incessant beeping of keys when your cat gets on your keyboard and holds down a button.

Putting your Mac in sleep mode is an alternative, but you can also set Cats Lock to alert you or make a loud noise when your cat gets on the keyboard. Some of the built-in sounds like a barking dog, vacuum cleaner, or hissing cat might serve as a deterrent even when you're not around. You can also upload your own sounds.

Cats Lock stays on until your Mac goes to sleep, at which point it turns off so you're not locked out of your Mac because of the app.

Cats Lock can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $2.99.

I’m pretty lucky with my two as they never jump on units or desks. The only place they jump on will be a bed, chair, or windowsill.

What did I just read about?
...I should stop smoking weed I guess 😇 🤣
The bub ain’t the problem. It’s that MacRumors either has no clue similar apps already exist or they got paid to promote it.

You should stop regardless. I speak from experience, weed changes you.
