I don't care on iota about CBS or ABC and their lousy programs. Yea sure, I want to watch TV on a portable computer, why wouldnt i just watch them on my TV in my living room, with my great sound system, that is if I watched them, which I will not because NOT one of them has a decent well written worthwhile show on. Survivor?, what are you kidding me, dancing with the stars, oh no, that's FOX, the most despicable channel owned by the most despicable man.

Now Netflix, there is an interesting idea.

But the networks, they can go dtraight to hell, their only concern is making sure that their advertisers get their products in front of this "new and emerging" market.

So line up suckers, watch those ads and become Network drones!

Not me!

When are you going to realize nobody cares about netbooks. At least not in here, so stop trollin. The iPad is going to make the netbook obsolete, give it some time.

Even if it doesn't,his comments are a waste of his and our time.
Kind of sad,really.
Nothing better to do.

That's the cheapest

Sweet Jesus, that's a rip-off! My whole Comcast bill each month is about $69. 47.95 for internet and $17.95 for the most basic cable (to keep my internet charge lower). Are you sure you couldn't be getting a better deal?

It is a rip off. Comcast is the only game in town for real high-speed internet around Memphis and they take advantage. There is DSL, but that isn't good. Plus I would have to have phone service to get it.

Since I'm a web developer, I need high-speed.

Here is my bill...

Cable
HD Box Upgrade: 7
Digital Starter: 66.29
Total: 73.29

Internet
Leased Modem: 5
Internet Servie: 42.95
Total: 47.95

Taxes
TV
State: .02
Regulatory Fee: .07
Franchise Fee" .16

Internet
State: .31
Total .56

All that adds up to: $121.80 per month

We have only the basic package. You must be getting a promo package. My wife had talked them into giving it to us for a while but they haven't been willing to give it to us again.

Ok - so I have to pay:

$70 for Comcast internet.
$48 for Comcast cable - no DVR. ( if I don't get the cable, Comcast ups internet stand-alone to $95, with taxes, it's almost the same amount )
$1000 for the laptop I watch Hulu on and stream to my TV

Now an extra
$500 minimum for an iPad - It would be more since I would get a 3g
$15 minimum per month for iPad 3g
$XX amount per month extra for Hulu

There has to be a better way to watch the shows I want, when I want, where I want.

Good lord! $70 for Internet with TV?

I'll stick with my current $45 12/1 Mediacom Internet

and Basic TV (2-78) for $60

God, you $#%^ing fail at life. He's being sarcastic.

Do us all a favor and get off the internet every April 1st.

It's about time. Ad-supported shows streamed free on demand. It only took the industry how many years to stumble across this idea? Let's see; we've only had ad-supported TV for how long? Oh yeah...FOREVER!

Just give me CNN, SciFi, Discover, A&E, the three real networks and a few shows from Fox; you can keep their fake "news" crap.

No, Basic Cable ($12.95/mo. on their website, although I think I'm paying $17.95 like GeekLawyer) is the basic package, non-promo pricing, bill total around $70 w/normal internet, modem rental, HD cable box rental.

I can watch a lot of content from channels I don't get online directly from the channel's website for free, like South Park which is high definition and uncensored... vastly better than if I were getting Comedy Central. If they get their stuff on the iPad, along with other channels, that will rock. I would not pay for a Hulu subscription though. Just gimme ad-supported free content.

I have the highest speed internet with AT&T @ $70. No TV. My iPhone is my only phone service is another $70. I do not have Netflix or any other subscription service. When I want a movie I don't already own (I have a huge DVD collection, thousands) I rent them for $1 via Redbox or Blockbuster bluebox. My only broadcast shows are Fringe and Bones and I watch them on my computer. This iPad is making me think about Netflix again. I didn't use it enough the last time I joined, years ago, before the streaming.

I got MediaCom too and it's only $59.95 / mo for 12mbps Internet and basic cable (like 80 channels). My rent is also only $329/mo for a two bedroom. Yeah, there are some benefits to living in the Midwest, especially while in college! If I hadn't gotten married my rent would be $165, lol.

How can you have HD without the Digital Starter kit? They wouldn't allow us to have HD without it.

So, in review: Since the iPad was announced, the price of ebooks are rising from $9.99 to $12-$14, and Hulu is likely to be subscription based.

Now, both those things were probably to happen over time (especially Hulu), but the iPad definitely helped to speed the increased pricing. Gee, thanks.
Seems like normal market dynamics to me. The price of ebooks is no longer fixed by a single entity (Amazon) and demand is widely expected to increase due to the iPad. The supply of talented authors is not elastic so it's natural that prices would go up. Having said that, I expect prices will fluctuate quite a bit over the next year or so as publishers try find a "sweet spot".

If I have to pay for Hulu they better not have any Adds during the movies. I would already paying them money and would NOT want to see the Adds.

I dont think they'll show mathematics ADDS, hell I dont even think theyll show advertisements or ADS either.

Having free and subscription services for convenience and one-time viewings is fine. This culture is an ownership culture, which is why iTunes is successful to a degree. Once you buy it once and with Jobs/Disney's new buy once show anywhere scheme, iTunes will have a resurgence.

Netflix and such may not go away, but both will coexist.
