Genius move by Apple PR handing it out early to influencers. While people won't necessarily immediately buy one because they saw a picture of Beyonce with it, it does give the Watch a degree of credibility and mainstream appeal. Some who questioned the need for a smart watch will see the concept as less alien if they see so-and-so wearing one.
It is an aggressive move by Apple though, it does show that they acknowledge that the Watch can be a hard-sell (despite those of us here immediately ordering one regardless), and they are keen to overcome it as soon as possible.
