I have verizon and I get reception everywhere. It really just depends where you live. I would reccommend just asking friends with different services on how their reception is in your area.

Agreed. Cell service is very much dependent on your location.

What's wrong with Motorola? Why all the hate? Sure, it's no iPhone but it's a pretty decent phone.

I dunno about the more recent ones. But I had a mate who bought the original RAZR, and tried to show it off to me. Eventually he gave up because the screen was utterly illegible in sunlight. I think I had an SPV M600 at the time, which is a Q-Tek S200/HTC Prophet in the states I think. Wasn't the best, but it was readable. The iPhone is impressively readable in sunlight. Anyway, I'm getting sidetracked.

What I was going to say is I've never had any experience in the states, never been there, but in the UK T-Mobile is the worst carrier I've ever been with. I ended up paying a contract off for something like 8 months while it went completely unused, because it worked out cheaper then cancelling it, and it was cheaper to pay that AND another contract than to stay using it on a regular basis.

Useless.

...I realise this whole post is useless really, because it's not relevant to you in the US.

EDIT: And i've just realised you've already got your phone/plan, and thus this post doubly irrelevant, sorry.

Is that possible with T-Mobile? It's not a huge deal, but it would be nice.

Yes, and it's not all that hard to do. If you haven't synced your phone to your Mac yet, do so.

1) Make a snippet of whatever song you want in iTunes (non-protected file only):
1a) Choose your song and snippet thereof - Info -> Options -> choose start and stop times.
1b) Convert it to MPEG. To save space you can drop the bitrate down to 96 kpbs.
2) Move the snippet to your desktop.
3) Turn on Bluetooth on your Mac and your Phone. For the RAZR, it's Settings -> Connection -> Bluetooth link -> Handsfree, then choose yes to turn BT on.
4) Under the BT menu on the Mac, choose Send File. Find your ringtone on your desktop choose it and send it on over.
5) When it's done transferring, it will play on the phone and you'll get an option as to how to store it.

That's about all there is to it. You might have to play with the start/stop times of the snippet a little to get it just right, and best to keep it under 30 seconds.

I'd also highly recommend getting a plastic case for your RAZR, and/or always making sure your ears are scrupulously clean. The thing picks up dirt and grime like a magnet, and it's really hard to keep clean.

Yay, thanks everyone. I got my RAZR all syced up.

The only reason I got the RAZR is because it was free, I can't afford a fancy phone right now.

If you decide to quit T-Mobile anytime in the next 23 months, the phone will cost you $200, even though you got it for 'free' at the start.

If you paid for it outright, you would pay $100 for the phone, and you could quit T-Mobile anytime.

And still, even if you decide to stay with T-Mobile for two years or longer, do you think that phone will last two years?

Actually, the cancellation fee reduces over time.

I just talked to a support specialist at T-Mobile, and apparently they'd love me to use the iPhone on their network but it's not compatible with the MyFaves plan. They asked if I wanted to change my plan, but when I said I'd rather have MyFaves than the iPhone, the woman almost died.

So I guess I'm stuck with teh RAZR. :(

You should have gotten this:

Only $35 unlocked and unsubsidized. Best phone ever made. :D

What brand is it? Why is it so good? I still have 14 days to trade in my phone.

Edit: it'll have to be really good, I prefer flip phones. :p

That doesn't sound right to me. I've heard of people using MyFaves on other phones before. Let me double check that.

EDIT: Yes, you should have no problem using it now that you have MyFaves set up on your account. You just won't get the cool MyFaves circle of friends in your menu.

Oh, and the phone above is the Motorola MOTOFONE.

Ok, I'm still a bit nervous though. They told me that there's a chance that I'll get billed for My Faves calls if I'm not using a phone that is MyFaves enabled. Does anyone on these forums have a success story along these lines?

You shouldn't have a problem as it's a network service, not a device service. However, I left T-Mobile a few months after they launched MyFaves, so you should double check with someone who knows this a little better.

Like the tech support specialist? :p

Well I'd figure nobody knows more about T-Mobile than T-Mobile.

Listen, I've been around countless of cell phone forums, and many of them have MyFaves plans on unbranded phones. If you don't believe me or any of the Google results I provided, use your iPhone for a day, then check your bill at the end of the month to see if your MyFaves calls were billed for that day.

It's not that I don't believe you, I'm just a bit nervous. I'll try your idea though.

I've had Alltel and then AT&T (unfortunately). I left Alltel for the BlackJack II and then the iPhone 3G and I've regretted it ever since. Not the phones mind you, the service. :p
If I were you, stay away from AT&T.

Yeah, this thread is just a little old. :)
