Pretty soon the government will track our location, keep records of the Internet sites we visit, tell us which apps we can and can't use, force us to abandon flash websites... Uh wait. That's Apple.

The government wants to warn me about a terrorist threat nearby? Excellent. Thank you government.

I don't need that sort of fantasy notification about a fantasy hypothetical situation, and neither do you.

Thank you government my ass. Stay out of my personal devices, and then I'll "thank" you.

As long as they are not looking at me while I txt at night without a shirt on through my facetime camera I honestly don't give a ****....its just weird...they can't do this through regular cell signal? Anyways I'm sure theirs some special characters out their who will break out the tin foil hats.

Yeah, terrorist threats and severe weather, fantasy land, I know.

Go write a conspiracy theory, why don't ya. Oh wait. Then they'll know. Have fun in your bunker. Don't forget a can opener. Always keep a fresh roll of tin foil handy.

Edit:

Nevermind. Think we're on the same page.

Ten years ago we were attacked. The people of NY and DC (the two cities the program is starting in) were attacked. Six years ago was hurricane Katrina. Two months ago Japan (oh, that's not us, can't happen to us:rolleyes:) was hit by a one two punch.

That's three examples. There are more.
And here folks keep saying things like "fantasy warning" and pretending this is about Obama propaganda, or "big brother" or some such fantasy. Seems we've returned to a pre-911 complacency.

This could be very helpful in a serious situation. It's not about reading your super important text messages. It's about saving people's lives.

It should be a system that you can opt out of if you want, seems like that would be the best way to handle it.

Anyone who thinks the "text" from the President will not become political is just naive. It does not matter who is in that office (donkey, elephant or other).

I assume they fear that folks will opt out. Then, by ignorance, leave themselves in harms way, and then rescuers must endanger themselves to go get y'all.

As for abuse: my university has had an emergency alert texting system since the VA tech shooter. It has been used a handful of times (a shooter, a fire, a couple of tests). It has never been abused. It doesn't text football scores or good luck on finals or any silliness like that. It texts emergencies. I'm happy to have it.

I live in Texas. My representatives and senators are bunch of f-tards who consistently vote to renew the PATRIOT Act. I opposed the PATRIOT Act since it was discussed in the House and Senate; it's one of the reasons I vote third party now.
Hope you called your congressman and asked him to vote no on renewing the PATRIOT Act. I sure as hell call mine to let them know whenever I strongly support or disapprove of a piece of legislation in the house.

If AT&T can send me texts reminding me to watch ****** shows like Dancing With The Stars, why can't they alert me about some kind of cataclysmic event without needing a new "chip"?
