CEO Confirms All iPads on T-Mobile Receive 200MB Free Data Each Month

Are you getting the bill via email? I'm logging in to my account and it says nothing about my next bill. Have you activated your iPad yet?
Yep. Got it via email.

Keep us posted pls.
I called. They said there is nothing they can do over the phone. I have to go into the store and talk to them. I printed the bill and have the original paperwork which specifies I should be paying essentially $0.33 a month. I'm gonna go in soon and talk to them. If they give me the run around I will just cancel and switch back to prepaid.

What am I doing wrong?

I got my SIM from T-Mobile today and put it in my iPad and activated it.

My nano SIM came in the mail today (says it is for a phone). When I fill in the form that t-mobile takes me too when I launch Safari it says that there are no mobile numbers in my zip code and won't activate it. What am I doing wrong? iPad mini here.

I've just set up my new iPad Air :))) and during that process they sent me an email which told me what my "phone number" for the iPad is. Look in your confirming emails from T-Mo. for an assigned mobile number. I'm assuming it would be similar for the mini as for the Air.

Had to call T-Mobile to activate

They had a problem with my zip code and just gave me a number from a nearby city.

If you have an iPad that you want to get the free 200 MB/month here's where you can order a FREE SIM CARD from TMobile. You will have to enter in credit card information, even though the SIM card is free.

All SIM cards are the same, regardless of what it's listed under (prepaid, postpaid, mobile internet, etc.) The activation process is what ties the SIM to a particular service.

I ordered a free nano SIM from the link below a few weeks ago (just to have) and put it into my iPad Air (purchased from Apple) and activated the 200 MB/month free plan.

The SIM is $10; it is not free.

I read through the last couple of pages and I'm confused. I have two of the SIM cards for T-Mobile (the 200MB plan) and plan on activating them. I was told all that was needed was date of birth and full name, plus SIM # to activate. It's a Verizon iPad Air and I heard there were issues surrounding this as well. Also, the $10 charge and $10 credit being added to your account (for Edge connectivity), is it only available for financing plans? Or any iPad? Would prefer that over the standard 200MB a month and have Edge capabilities when I hit my limit. TIA.

I saw that before I got the SIM, but it didn't pose a problem after (but I don't recall 100%).

I think what I did was a put the SIM in the iPad, switched off WiFi and went to the cellular settings and accessed my account and it let me set it up.

Even once it was set up, I could not go back and look at my data usage on WiFi, I had to switch to cellular. This is mildly annoying, I have to flip off settings and use data to check the data usage and then switch the settings back (AT&T worked fine checking over the WiFi).

It's possible that it's a phone SIM is causing the issue? Mine doesn't say phone on the card or the receipt (it says BYOD PPO MBB MICROSIM CARD sku 610214633927).
FYI, the first 10 digits of my order number (and I think it was just the 10 in the e-mail) looks like a phone number and starts with my area code of the phone I put for my contact info, coincidence? Does yours match your area code.

For some it is free; perhaps those who already had an account with T-Mo?
Mine cost $10, but my iPad came with it installed and all I had to do was click the home button to turn it on.

$10 charge + $10 credit ???

This part I'm confused about. $10 charge + $10 credit just gets it so you're on a real plan with several benefits:
A) Is this a post-paid plan?
B) Is this just for the financed iPads or can I get this (I already got my T-Mobile SIM for my iPad 4). I do NOT have my phone with T-Mobile
3) EDGE speeds after you used up the 200MB?
4) Being on this plan would also get you international data at EDGE speeds for free too, right?
5) Better rates if you need to add on data?
F) But since you're on a plan you get some fees/taxes and that's where the $1.70 comes from?
Bullets are labeled with numbers for features, letters for fees and plan requirements.

Or is it something else completely...?
If I can add this to my iPad 4 to get the throttling and to get international roaming, I think I'd be willing to give them $1.70 a month for life.

they were specific with me that it was the On Demand plan which costs me nothing until I specifically order a day, week, or monthly extra MB of data.

We'll see how it really works out :)
By the way, I'm lovin' my new iPad Air!

I went into order a iPad Air off the T-Mobile website with financing as a T-Mobile customer and I was able to select the 200MB data plan for $0/month. I hope this does not change within the next couple of weeks.

Was this an actual option? "$0 for 200MB?"
It didn't show that way when I signed up. I just shows up as "$0 No additional Data".

SIMs are FREE TODAY

Using the code NOVSIM the SIMs are free again at T-Mobile. It's believed that this is a today only sale. UPDATE: IT IS STILL WORKING ON TUESDAY...

The code works as I just ordered a nano one for myself.

I switched to a post paid plan, here's my experience, new T-mo customer:

I found that, anyone who sticks in a T-Mobile SIM card (anything- prepaid, postpaid, etc) gets the 200mb free.

I went into a T- Mo store yesterday to see what other options they had for adding more data. I already had the 200mb on prepaid (I am a AT&T customer, who purchased a T-Mobile iPad, registered and got, the 200mb, free!)

They offered me a postpaid plan. Basically it's $10 a month, but then I get a $10 credit. Essentially I have to pay fees at the end of the month. It works out to $1.70 a month if I don't add data. And I get the 200mb a month. The benefit over the prepaid plan is I don't get cut off after I run out of 200mb, I just get downgraded to edge speeds. I can them just go and purchase a data package which gets charged at the end of the month.

Here's the breakdown of add on data packages for my plan:
$1 per hour for unlimited data
$5 per day for 500mb
$10 per week for 1gb
$20 per month for 2.5gb

My plan is called the $10 on-demand plan. But I get a $10 discount every month. So it works out to $1.70 in fees. I just pay the $1.70 + whatever data plan above a add-on for the month.

So if I'm stranded someone without wifi for an hour, I can add the unlimited for $1, verses, I know I needed a day, etc. whatever.

It's pretty awesome and versatile.
They have better options if you know you will use more, but I mainly use wifi, so I don't anticipate I will use more than the occasional $1 here and there. So this is absolutely perfect for me. Plus I love the fact I can use my free 200mb every month, then downgrade to edge speeds (prepaid just cuts out).

This plan also qualifies for their international, so if I go abroad, the plan works for their roaming partners as well.

Honestly, made me fall Iove with T-mo.
I called after I left the store to confirm. This is my plan!

Can anyone explain how it works if you have 200mb and then add an add-on plan? Does it pause the 200mb? Or do you eat through the 200mb before you start using the data from the add-on plan?

For example, say I still have all 200mb left on my plan the first day of a new billing cycle, but I am traveling and want to stream TV, so I buy a one-hour unlimited pass and use 300mb worth of data during that hour. Did I just use up all of my 200mb free data? Or would I still get to use the 200mb after my unlimited hour expires?

Appreciate any insight...

Okay, I got a Verizon iPad mini and went to T-Mobile today to get a sim ($10). Everything seemed to work though it took a number of their staff to figure it out.

But now that I'm home, I just got a pop-up on my mini screen that said I had no more data! I haven't been using it to this makes no sense to me. What do I need to look for to see what's going on?

I snagged a t-mo iPad mini yesterday and set it up. No CC, etc. and got the 200MB freebie data.

While I was in the Apple store picking it up, I asked nicely if they had any spare Verizon SIM cards... They were nice and gave me one for free.

I'll keep the t-mo SIM + 200MB as an emergency backup and will use the new VZW SIM as the primary with my unlimited data plan.

Seems like the t-mo version is the one to buy.

I'm not sure, but it may be the Verizon is the one to buy, based on earlier comments. This is because while they can apparently work with a T-Mobile or ATT unit, someone said they check some sort of number and if it isn't already for Verizon, they won't offer the change over.

Which is, to me, pretty dumb. After all, the big bucks are in the plans so if someone buys a T-Mobile and wants to switch, why wouldn't they let them?!

That's another reason when I accidentally clicked the Verizon version, I didn't cancel or return it. I figured if T-Mobile made it work, I have that deal and I can go to Verizon later if I want to since it was theirs to start with.

I did run into a problem though - when I got home, it said it was out of data. Also, I couldn't log into my account. Just got back from another visit to the store and, after some work, they have it working properly.

Unfortunately, somehow I lost my Verizon sim. Probably no big deal to get another if I need it, even if I have to pay, but would be better to still have it. Must have come out of my shirt pocket when I got my iphone out sometime before I got home the first time.

If so, also not a big deal. my VZW version should arrive tomorrow. The t-mo one has horrible image retention issues so it's going back. I may have lost the t-mo SIM before it gets returned though.... :D

Way to be unethical there.

Thank you.
The SIM will have zero use to Apple or anyone else once the defective iDevice is returned. The device will be disassembled and the internals used for parts in future refurbished iPads. With any luck, the back case will be melted down and the metal re-used for another iDevice. The SIM cannot and will not be recycled into another refurbished device. I doubt much of the screen hardware will be reusable either. The battery and most other bits that are glued in will probably be trashed also.

1GB free

Does the new "till end of 2014" extra 1GB free apply to the 200MB accounts too? The language in the press release sort of seems to imply that.
