If you sign up for the 500MB data plan, you get 500MB + 200MB, for 700MB total. The other thing is you are not cut off when you use up the 700MB, you are throtled.

I might switch my account over to post paid once I get my phone plan set up next month... I love this no overage/throttled deal... this is how it always should have been... or cut off. The auto $20 that At&t charges is bull.

I dropped by a Tmobile store yesterday to look into the -0- down ipad air, so I went through the qualifying and then the rep said since I am a new customer I would have to get a $30 data package. I told him i didnt want a data package and just wanted the 200mb free. He said I would get the the 200mb free, on top of the $30 data package (I was like, gee thanks, THAT willl go a long way) and said thanks but no thanks. He did say I could transfer my AT&T service to them but when I asked if he would be paying the $350 early term fee he declined...

***UPDATE***
So I called customer service and they were able to pull my credit approval and get me into a 32gb ipad with the $10 "on demand" data plan which would be credited back plus the 200mb free. Only downside is I have to wait for it to come back in stock and ship out.

Well i purchased it about 12PM on friday EST time. Just yesterday i got the final your account is activated email along with the final invoice etc. Thats where the credit has been published and my credit card was also charged 10$ less than what it was shown on the original invoice.

Ahh I purchased in store and the device is on its way. Maybe I should have ordered online. Blah.

They all do that though, every mobile salesperson/store. It's how they make money...
They don't make commission selling you a pre-paid. So they'd rather not sell you anything than let you have one.

I believe I've read that Best Buy was refusing to sell off contract iPhone 5S' to customers off contract, even though they tack on an extra 50-100 to unsubsidized phones (I forget if it's 50 or 100 off hand). They make more money selling you the contract than the phones.

Is it all BS? Yes... but that's what all the mobile companies will do until that system can be changed.

If I am not a current t-mobile customer..
Can I get an iPad Air on the ~$26/mo EIP plan and also get 200mb of data each month for free, without paying anymore than the $26/mo?

It looks like it's a big fat NO, since the t-mobile site insists I sign up for a $20 plan at the minimum.

I had a prepaid plan with $200mb free, no credit card data, but actually opted for the postpaid plan instead. (I did not do any financing, etc, paid for my iPad in full from the Apple Store.)

The postpaid plan is called on demand, technically $10/mo, but they give a $10 credit every month. I just pay fees every month. Works out to $1.70 unless I add more data.

The added benefits are my data gets throttled to 2G after I run out of 200mb instead of cut off, I get access to the international thing, and I get better rates on data packages.

Basically I can add-on data packages as needed, and it bills me later.

I was not a T-Mobile customer before, and I do not have voice service with them. I would recommend this postpaid plan, I think the $1.70 fees are worth the benefits. I have called to confirm my first month's bill is only that and I have a $10 on my account. I can also still cancel anytime and open back up my prepaid plan if I need to.
Interesting I ordered over the phone Saturday financed with the postpaid arrangement you described confirmed by sales and CSR. What a mess.

I ordered a SIM from T-mobile on Friday for my iPad 2 ATT version I bought two years ago. It should arrive in the next couple of days.

Are you saying my only option to possibly get MORE than 200MB is to actually sign up for a plan? In other words, I only did this because every once in a while it will come in handy to have data service if I'm not in a wifi zone. I RARELY plan on using it, so the 200mb "free" plan sounded great to me, since I don't want a monthly payment.

But what if I decide a specific month I'm going to be on the road more, and use up my free 200mb. Can I easily buy more for that week or two? Or am I stuck, and have to wait until the month is done to get another 200mb?

Thanks for your help!

No, you don't have to pay anything on a month basis "reoccurring". I could have said it differently but what I was trying to say, when you use up your 200MB free data, it prompts you to add more data. Since it's a pre-paid sim, you have money on it and just just pick what you want when you want. You can buy a one time pass in four sizes. 10MB - 1 Hour pass - $1, 500MB - 24 hour pass - $10, 1Gb - 7 day pass - $15, and 2.5GB - 30 day pass - $30. It gives you the option to also do 30 day "reoccurring" passes from 500MB - 12.5Gb -$20-$70. The "reoccurring" passes are not a contract, it's just like auto reorder and you can stop them at anytime. But yea, I only plan on using the one time passes myself. These are all user changeable with the cellular setting on the iPad.

EIP plans are only available to t-mobile customers with active services - So there's a $10/month fee on top of the $26 if you have no other services.

Already owned an iPad and want the T-Mobile 200MB free + SIM

1) Have any iPad owners gone and gotten the SIM from T-Mobile and activated the free 200MB plan yet? I'm speaking of those who purchased one before Nov. 1st.

2) Has anyone gotten their SIM in the mail and activated the free 200MB plan? How did that work out?

I didn't get my SIM in the mail yet, but the activation sequence looked like I need to use my T-Mobile number to activate it, but I don't have one. I guess I'll know more in a few days.

I bought my iPad back in June. I have two accounts, each with their own sim card and data plan that I can use with my Mini. Both got the 200MB plan activated even though I didn't have a plan renewed at the time on either card.

Only one of those sims now work with my iPad. I've been using it with the 200MB plan since yesterday.

The other sim has the 200MB plan activated and is set to use the 200MB plan but it no longer works with my iPad for some reason since they added the 200MB plan on. Last night I reactivated my data plan buying the 2.5GB for $30. The sim card still does not work with my iPad and I tried it with my 4S as well because it has always worked in an iPhone with no problems in the past.

I put that card into my Nexus 7 and it works in there with no problems. There has to be a configuration problem on T-Mobiles end not allowing the card to be used on my iPad/4S. I was told to go down and get a new sim.

As for the other sim, it's still working in my mini 24 hrs later on the 200MB plan. I'll likely use all the 200MB by today and I usually go through 4.5GB per month on the mini.

How long does this last for? I recall reading for life, but can't find that anymore.

Can they cancel it in a couple of months?

If you have an iPad that you want to get the free 200 MB/month here's where you can order a FREE SIM CARD from TMobile. You will have to enter in credit card information, even though the SIM card is free.

All SIM cards are the same, regardless of what it's listed under (prepaid, postpaid, mobile internet, etc.) The activation process is what ties the SIM to a particular service.

I ordered a free nano SIM from the link below a few weeks ago (just to have) and put it into my iPad Air (purchased from Apple) and activated the 200 MB/month free plan.

FREE NANO SIM (iPad Air, iPad mini)
FREE MICRO SIM (iPad 2, iPad 3rd gen, iPad 4th gen)

You are throttled but not cut off.

Well this is very disappointing to hear. I was looking forward to signing up for tmobile for the first time with an Air. The monthly cost is coming out to $46.25 with the 500MB/mo. play. No free 200MB plan available.

I probably won't be getting an Air or Retina Mini anytime soon then. I guess it was too good to be true.

Apple and Best Buy both offer 0% financing. Then get a T-Mobile sim, register for 200MB data plan and you are set.

Ahh I purchased in store and the device is on its way. Maybe I should have ordered online. Blah.

From what I understand when people activate the data plan on the iPad there is a 200MB option. Some people report deleting the account and then re-registering and the 200MB data plan shows up. When all else fails call CSR.

After the total run around by 5 different departments, the CSR I just spoke to told me that I am on a $10 on demand plan and which will at the same time credit me $10 while I am on installments for the iPad @ $26 or whatever. I have the device in hand but I have yet to open it or put the SIM in until I get the bill. Which should be in the next day or two. They told me that typically yes you have to pay the $10, but they are offering this new plan because of this whole 200 MB ordeal so we shall see if I do in fact get a $10 credit every month. Hope yours is the same.

I'm being told the same thing but my device has yet to ship.

I'm told the same thing and the iPad is in the process of shipping. I choose to believe they will follow through. I think they are trying hard to fulfill what was promised.

Honestly as this is my first iPad, I have no idea how fast I'll be using up the 200 MB ~ there's at least an outside chance I'll be getting into the On Demand thing often, anyway. :) I'm choosing from here on to not worry about all these details until and unless I see that they're not following through.

Can't wait to get my new toy,.....er, I mean my necessary, can't-live-without OS device. ;)

I hear you. Can't wait for them to ship the damn thing :p first iPad here too

At this point I think T-Mobile is going to follow through.

So I just got a bill for $10.33 :/

Gonna call T-mobile to ask what's up with it. I'm supposed to have a $10 credit on my account. It was on there when I left the store and when I called CS that same day.

So do I. :)
I posted this on another thread: But I'm spoken with them several times and it always comes down that I WILL be getting 200 MB Free for Life deal. I'm financing at 0% and I'm a new customer.

The requirement for me to have a no contract plan is exactly what I want and according TMO ~ my On Demand plan will be $0 because of the initial offering and will stay $0 until I go over the 200 MB Free provision of the deal.

They said to make this happen the $10 fee will be 'rolled off' each month.
I understand that it will show as a charge then with an immediate cancel of the charge. They have to do this to make my new account work in the system to accommodate the deal.

I think much of the confusion around this issue is due to an egregious lack of customer service representative knowledge & training. So numbers of people get told slightly different things just out of ignorance. When one reminds them of the terms of the deal as stated by their CEO, then they check twice, call a supervisor, etc, etc, and finally come back, agreeing that what he said is the actual deal.

Indeed I'm in the same boat, financed new customer promised free 200mb through $10 on demand data plan with $10 credit. Ordered at 1800tmobile.

It seems they are honoring the earlier orders before they made these clarified statements.

Are you getting the bill via email? I'm logging in to my account and it says nothing about my next bill. Have you activated your iPad yet?

I financed my ipad about five minutes after I got the email that said they were ready at 2:30am. At that time they had an On Demand option for $10 which I selected (while scratching my head and finding a string attached to it). At some point as I understand it they removed the On Demand option. I already have it though.
I'm looking forward to my ipad due to arrive tomorrow. I'm happy to pay the 10 for the On Demand plan. But if they at some point tell me that I actually have to pay the $20 minimum plan, I will enjoy returning the iPad and going to buy one from Apple like I should have done in the first place

I just had the following chat with Elvira. It sounds like they're honoring those who purchased early when the system wasn't requiring the 500MB data plan.

Elvira P: I am grateful that you contacted us today regarding your account. It's my pleasure assisting you with your concern.
You: Thank you
Elvira P: You're most welcome!
You: So I'm basically wondering what I'll be responsible for paying each month with this iPad purchase. As I mentioned, I'm a new customer. I read online that new customers doing financing will be required to get a $20 data plan. I ordered mine when the $10 data plan was still in the system and it was reported a monthly credit would be issued. I just want to clear up what I'll be responsible for each month.
Elvira P: I do understand your concern about this Alex.
Elvira P: With our new Mobile Internet plan,. customer will have free 200mb each month.
Elvira P: Customer is not required to have a specific plan each month though they can purchase more data after 200mb or have a monthly plan.
Elvira P: There is though a known system issue that happened where customer is being charge for $10 for 200mb instead of having it for free but don't worry T-Mobile is on top of havign this resolved as soon as possible.
Elvira P: Currently what you will be expected monthly is for the installment plan that you have for the device which is $26.25 for 24 month.
Elvira P: If you will purchase more data pass on your account, that will be billed along with this.
Elvira P: Do you have further concern about this information Alex?
You: Thank you for the information. Will I be required to pay the $10 monthly On-Demand data charge that is currently showing in my account?
Elvira P: Yes. It would be advisable to take care of the amount though be assured that it will be reversed or be go towards the payment for the device.
Elvira P: Please be assured that we will take care of this error so you won't be needing to pay for this any longer.

Elvira P: It is designed to be free for our customer.
Elvira P: I sincerely apologize for this inconvenience Alex.
You: So T-Mobile is honoring the free financing and free data for initial buyers because of the confusion?
You: (Even though I understand new customers are now required to get a $20 data plan if they finance as well)
Elvira P: Yes. We will still honor our free 200mb starter data to our customer
Elvira P: Though I can see that your account has $0 amount due and hoping that this won't happened on your first bill.
Elvira P: Your rate plan is provision for the free data of 200mb each month.
You: I'm sorry for asking variations of the same question, I just want to be sure. My monthly payment going forward will be $26.25 for the iPad, $10 for the On-Demand data, and I'll be credited $10 each month for that data because of the error?
Elvira P: Yes.
You: For a total payment of $26.25
Elvira P: Please remember that there shouldn't be $10 for the 200mb data since it should be for free and we are now taking care of this error.
You: If I didn't already purchase the iPad Air, and instead I purchased it through financing as a new customer today, I would be required to pay $26.25/mo for the iPad and get a $20 data plan for 500MB of data plus 200MB of data free, right?
Elvira P: Correct! You've got it right Alex.
You: Ok, thank you.

T-Mobile Confirmation: Promotional Pass

I got my SIM from T-Mobile today and put it in my iPad and activated it. I paid 99 cents for the SIM although today I noticed they were $10.

But on the initial signup screen it said the 200MB comes free every 30 days (see attachment). The wording was a little weird, "comes free", free with what? with the purchase of the SIM?

It was clear I was getting 200MB promotional but I didn't see a free 200MB plan in either of the menus. It didn't feel like it like it was recurring from the e-mail.

This is the e-mail that I got after signing up -
T-Mobile Confirmation: Promotional Pass
Dear Customer,

Your new Mobile Internet Starter Data pass is now active on device # 1231231234, and you can enjoy 200 MB of high speed data for use until 12/05/2013. To manage your account or purchase additional high speed data. visit mim.t-mobile.com.

Sincerely,
T-Mobile Customer Service

When I look at my status (see other attached) it says "$0.00 No additional data" but it'd be nice if it said 200MB free instead.

If T-Mobile wants us as customers, let's make this SUPER clear to the customers.

I think it's a great way to get new customers. If this works everywhere that I need cellular data, I'd consider T-Mobile the next time around if they can save me money.

Goofing around with data on my AT&T iPad this last year, I know I don't need more than 200MB a month while cellular so this is $100 a year in my pocket (a month ago it'd have been $180, but AT&T just started that new 1GB for $25 and you have 90 days to use it; so $100 a year).

To enforce data I use the settings and forbid some programs from using cellular, at LTE speeds accidentally launching something like FlipBoard and you can eat through the data (easily 10MB a minute). Before I leave the house I launch Mail and my newsreader (Reeder) so it can pre-load and cache a lot of data and images and I'll do fine. The pre-caching steps I do out of habit for those times when I don't actually have a cellular data plan and so I can have fresh data (no cellular means I'd launch a few more like my calendar and kindle book reader to get on the right page).
