There are definitely some good originals on the platform, but the reason they’re going to lose money is because of that.

ATV+ is the only streaming service that doesn’t license content from other studios. Sometimes people just want to watch their favorite classics — not just a handful of decent originals that cost a fortune to make. And most of their big-budget films are total duds — Fountain of Youth, Wolfs, Ghosted, to name a few. If it weren’t bundled with my Apple One subscription, I wouldn’t still be subscribed. Two months a year and I’m done.

Because of the Apple one it’s the only service I am subbed to year long besides prime (again for other reasons)
Two months a year is probably what I do for Netflix, HBO, Stan, Paramount, Binge rotate unsubscribe and then immediately cancel.

Definitely don't believe that TV+ helps the sales of iPhones or any other Apple device. The service is available in competing platforms too.

I like ATV+ shows. Love the dolby atmos/vision integration. Sounds amazing on my home theatre set up :)

Killer cast too for literally all of their shows.

If I were the CEO of Apple, the first thing on the chopping block would be Apple TV+.
Same. Nothing against the content itself or the talented people behind it of course, just disagree that this makes sense for Apple. Just one example is how this industry is politicised. Look at how well that has been going for Disney, I would stay far away from it and leave it to others.

> CEO Tim Cook Says Apple TV+ Isn't Designed to Boost iPhone Sales

Come on! I saw several Apple series on trial offer, and if nothing else, they had intense Apple product placement. Smooth characters (eg Ted Lasso = Ned Flanders spin-off) living in cosy, pastel backgrounds, even villains have last-gen iPhones!

Apple isn’t the only company in the world doing product placement. They were doing it long before ATV+ existed. Now that they have their own TV channel, of course they’ll keep doing it. Honestly, what did you expect ?

so, this interview is to promote:

really? I seem to have heard "content, story telling" more than once ...

I’m thinking about the brand loyalty aspect.

Let’s look at it the other way.

If A TV+ hurt brand loyalty, or took away more from iPhone sales than it might eventually generate, A TV+ would be gone in a minute.

TV Shows my wife and I have watched on Apple TV+

For All Mankind
Ted Lasso
Bad Monkey
Shrinking
Stick
Murder Bot
Severance
Dark Matter

Movies we've watched

Wolfs
Fountain Of Youth

We have greatly enjoyed all of them and eagerly awaiting new seasons of the TV shows. We are reletively new to Apple TV+. Only subscribed for about 6 months now, but is our favorite streamer. We also have Netflix and Prime. Prime comes in second, Netflix third.....and also the longest subscribed to.

...why would you watch a TV show or movie on your phone?

Isn't that why people have AppleTVs?

Whatever Apple does, consciously or subconsciously, every line of code is to boost iPhone sales.

Also they still don’t allow DTS and ATMOS (HD audio) passthrough on Apple TV. Makes me believe that they must really hate us.
The ATMOS pass-thru is rumored to be coming in the 26 update. I also would like them give us an option of DTS/DTS:X/DTS-HD, but I guess Apple just doesn’t want to pay licensing for DTS.

If I were the CEO of Apple, the first thing on the chopping block would be Apple TV+.
Why would you do that?

Studies show that worldwide sports generally subsidise other content and gains viewership.
All you’d have to do instantly is focus on sports content rights. For the USA that’s likely NFL or other forms of American football. For Canada that’s probably NHL and Ice hockey in general.
For the vast majority of the rest of the world, that’s football (soccer).
Just invest in distinctions rights in these areas and Apple would be onto a winner, heck even Netflix is investing in Sports content.

Thank gawd for something a tad different.
No!

Nothing wrong with choice and those people including me will go to a streamer that has those movies.
Most of us hate having to pay for two dozen subscriptions just to watch our favorite movies or shows. The added annoyance of constantly checking where a movie is streaming each month doesn’t help either.

A handful of choices is always welcome, but when it’s split into dozens of services that people can’t afford, piracy is going to start looking appealing. That’s when movie studios begin to lose money.
You can only penny-pinch everyday people for so long before they break.
