iCADE for iPad

A number of accessories for Apple products were on display at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show this week. Among them were a few unique products, with the iCADE by ION Audio as one of the most notable items among these. The iCADE is a miniature arcade game controller accessory for the iPad.

The iCADE was first conceptualized by Thinkgeek and unveiled on April Fool's day earlier this year and ION partnered with the retailer to develop and bring the product to market. The iCADE provides an analog interface for gameplay through a joystick and buttons, connecting to the iPad via Bluetooth.

iCADE has also partnered with game developer Atari to offer several games, including Asteroids, along with the iCADE. ION has announced that the iCADE will be available in the spring and will be priced at $99.

Magic Charger

On the more practical end of the spectrum, Mobee Technology was on hand to showcase its Magic Charger, an inductive charging accessory for Apple's Magic Mouse. The Magic Charger is comprised of a replacement battery pack and bottom plate for the Magic Mouse and a charging base. Once installed, the Magic Charger's battery pack allows the Magic Mouse to be charged by simply placing it on the included charging base.

The Magic Charger is priced at $49 and can be ordered directly from Mobee and is expected to be available at Apple retail stores soon.

Can anyone clarify the price for the Magic Charger? This looks quite convenient.

The Mobee website says €49.90 (Euro) for me. Where did the pricing in dollars come from, and anybody got what the price it is in £?

What is the cost of delivery? Before reading the "incl. delivery" part my reaction to that price was .

EDIT: Never mind, found the info. Thanks for the link.
EDIT2: Something is a bit fishy here. Where did you get the £45.20 price from? Just visiting the website now, the cost without delivery is £50.96. Standard delivery is £3.30. The UK price for this is beyond a joke.

Could someone explain why I should care about inductive charging? Yes you can set your device - and charge it wirelessly!!! - except for the cord plugging in the charger. It accomplishes nothing. When I can plug a device into the socket that can transmit power across the room to my device, call me.

This particular implementation has few benefits but inductive charging will definitely become useful once an industry standard is agreed upon.

Your entire desk could become an inductive charger. You would then charge your laptop, your mouse, your phone by simply placing them on the desk.

I like how they incorporated the battery cover into the receiver. Very well done.

You don't need to plug and unplug the mouse itself, nor will you ever run out of batteries. There's nothing more nauseating than having to go down to the store and pick up a fresh pack of batteries because the last pair you had at home just died.

When innovation goes awry

Wireless Magic Mouse: $69
USB Magic Charger: €49

USB Mouse: $10 perhaps? But seriously, it makes a wireless mouse pointless.

Apple battery works great. Don't have to recharge it for weeks. No need for inductive charger.

You're right, which is why you buy four rechargeable batteries. Then you'll never be in this situation.

Sooooo buying the iCade. I love dumb ass stuff like that:D My office is full of odd ball things like that. This was actually launched some time ago and for sale on the web. It was pulled after a month or so. Not sure if it was the same company though.

Apple should buy that company that made the inductive charger. Ideally, I would like to see the base expanded so it could work as a mouse pad that inductively charges the mouse.

I feel like this would be the first convenient use of inductive charging... When the charger is the size of a mouse pad, and it charges while I'm using it... Perfect...

I don't want a special case to put on my phone so I can set it on a pad thats right by an outlet. I'd just assume plug my phone in...

I agree with others, I see the potential benefit, but current offerings fail to excite me...

I agree! It can be so cool and so easy. And not just charging, anything that uses power. Tho I can see problems. One being that you need a certain material on your desk ect and that could be a problem for wanting to use it for non electronic devices. And some people might want a wood desk ect. Also computers need more power ect so I can see peoples desks exploding......

Buy rechargable or don't buy just 2 batteries..... I mean I buy those huge packs.

Pretty cool, but I'm fine with rechargeable batteries, if your the type of person who hates swapping them then the magic charger is a good choice..

This looks awesome. Someday everything could charge like this.
