Why not?

Becuase they've always harped on about 'true hifi' stuff, this iPod nonsense isn't hifi! Their ridiculous rules about only selling through 'Approved Retailers' like Superfi etc. Makes getting them serviced even harder..... and here they are going against everything they've warbled on about selling this *****e through Retailers like Apple.

I'm a Sonos person. I have S5's around my house and they cost (on ebay) $350 each. When they first came out they were $500, now $400 at their store. I love the sound I get off them and they stream my music right off my MacPro. Note that you also have to purchase a bridge but it's my whole-house sound system.

its quite annoying how you get all these refreshes of docks everytime something changes.

Is there anyone coming out with an airplay->dock adapter? eg something that is airplay compatible, and then routes the audio out, turning your normal, perfectly fine dock/stereo into an airplay one? Is airport express airplay compatible?

For your Stereo system AppleTV is your best bet. $99 and brings all your content to your TV and audio system. Docks adaptors... don't know. I highly doubt it.

The funniest looking part of the zepplin is the whole middle band part--reminds me of an oil filter wrench, pull the ipod and off comes the oil filter, lol.

I still don't get the point of these small iPod speaker-dock things. Why not just buy awesome speakers for your computer, and play the music form there? It would cost 20 times less and sound 200 times better, with a subwoofer and all.

If I want to listen to music, I just press the Play button on my Mac, it's that simple. I don't have to get my iPod and fiddle with it. Or better, I can plug in those speakers directly into my iPod, via the Stereo Jack, and it will do the same thing.

That only shows that you might not be in the target audience of such products. I have the Zeppelin right here in my home, and in my opinion it blends in a lot better in my livingroom than a big ass computer. For those of us who are willing to pay extra for sleek design and great sound quality, I would recommend the B&W system. Although, I agree its nice and practical with a great set of computer speakers. ;)

SnapStick is pretty cool. As long as it's cheaper than a Google TV device or the Apple TV (ie. under $100 USD), I might pick one up. I think it's only fair that a device reserved strictly for web content (ie. has no from-the-computer-streaming abilities) and with such simple hardware and operation would be lower in price. I mean, YOU have to provide the remote control!

Apple Hi-Fi it ain't

I guess you could use that hideous thing as a football. I still love my aging Apple Hi-Fi; never getting AirPlay but it's the best sounding dock to my ears. I just have it plugged into an iMac and never use it with an iPod, an great discreet piece of hardware. R.I.P.

Not sure i'm a fan of the Zepplin design--that would depend on the design of where you'd put it. It is interesting, i'd say. That said, B&W does make quality speakers. I still can't believe people waste their money on Bose. Bose is overpriced commercial crap. You'll never find that trash in my house. To each their own, i suppose.

My guess is 90% of the people who say Bose is junk have

A) Only heard Bose is junk from the self perpetuating internet machine,

therefore

B) Refuse to own any Bose stuff

and

C) Thus perpetuate the cycle that Bose is junk, while curiously enough not owning a single Bose product

I heard a lot of junk about the Sounddock as well, and then I went and bought one. It sounds fantastic for what it is. Not to mention it doesn't look like some hideous tacky pile that would require a hideously tacky setting to place it in like that BW monstrosity. There's style, and then there's just sheer ugliness.

Now, those people will tell me

D) I have poor hearing

or

E) I don't know what good sound should sound like

"No highs, all lows, must be Bose!"

I wouldn't call them junk, but they're still overpriced for what they have to offer. In that sense they're much better than Monster cable -- at least they dont have a $5 equivalent. While you're paying a premium, you're still getting reasonably good sound out of it. It's just irksome that bose pretends to be the high-end, when most of their product line is far from it.

SnapStick Web? Eh.

Conceptually, there's nothing that would prevent Apple from adding this functionality to the AppleTV. In fact, it makes a whole lot more sense than streaming the entire video directly from your iPhone>AppleTV>TV. Just use your iOS device to find the video you want and pass the URL to the TV or your Mac (the latter could store the content - of course, the old TV could store content which is why I still own mine).

Seems to me the aTV Flash folks could add this functionality to the old TV pretty easily. :D

Portable Speaker Recommendation ?

I was looking into portable (i.e. battery powered) speakers for my Touch and didn't see too much of a selection. Bose was more then twice the price of the other speakers but the Bose did look much better. What cheaper portable speakers (i.e. battery powered) should I consider instead of the Bose ?
